Chapter 1424: Chapter 556: What’s It Like to Eat at the Same Table as Kids? Shen Jiayue: Can’t Get Any Food at All! [Subscription Request]_2
Other dishes might be okay, but Salt Water Duck was something she had been looking forward to for several days. Eating just two pieces and it’s all gone? That’s just too disappointing.
Lin Xu laughed and said:
"Last time, Yuanyuan told us through her own experience not to sit at the same table with kids during meals. You didn’t believe her. Hold on, I’ll serve the dishes again."
Other grievances might be tolerable, but his wife hadn’t had enough to eat at home.
That won’t do. It would be such a laughingstock if word got out.
Soon, all sorts of dishes were served on the table again.
Seeing the two big plates full of Salt Water Duck, Shen Jiayue finally smiled.
Ha-ha, let’s see who dares to snatch them now. Lin Ji’s Food may not have much else, but it can handle any food lover.
Shen Jiayue picked up a piece of duck meat and put it in her mouth. Because of the sauce, the duck’s surface was moist, carrying that distinct fresh aroma and rich taste unique to duck.
The duck skin was tender and smooth with a fragrant and delightful layer of fat underneath.
The meat was salty and fresh, with a chewy texture, making it incredibly satisfying to eat.
"The duck made by cousin is really delicious. No wonder it takes a few days to prepare."
"Everything cousin makes is delicious. We’ve been eating like kings these past few days."
"Did you see the barbecue I posted last night? We eat like this every day, it’s such a treat! Those skewers are way better than the ones outside school. Too bad you guys can’t taste them."
"..."
Chen Shaokang wore a self-satisfied look, bragging about yesterday’s barbecue.
He had made Shi Molli and Xiaoxun drool, always feeling that life in the resort during these days of celebrating the New Year was better.
Shen Jiayue said to her cousin Shaokang:
"It’s one thing to tempt people at school, but you’re even doing this to your own family? Well, Molli and Xiaoxun can stay here for two more days, since we’ll be leaving the day after tomorrow. If you want to enjoy delicious food again, you’ll have to wait until next Spring Festival."
Though there might be frequent trips back home this year to attend ribbon-cutting and opening ceremonies.
But Xiaoxun and the others can’t constantly run to the resort. They have all resolved to apply to Finance University. That admission score is still a bit high for Central Plains students.
There’s no way to get in without working hard.
Before long, Lin Xu brought over a plate of freshly fried Radish Cake.
He sat down next to Shen Jiayue and said with a smile:
"In another ten minutes, the salt-fried lamb will be ready. If anyone wants lamb, they can wait a bit longer."
After speaking, he picked up a piece of Radish Cake to taste.
As soon as it entered his mouth, the unique aroma of pork fat hit him. The surface was fried crispy, making it taste fragrant, crispy, and delicious, while inside was soft and aromatic with multiple textures.
The radish strands were fresh and tasty, the dried shrimp fragrant, and the sausage had a strong flavor and texture.
Along with the aroma of diced fat, lean meat, and mushrooms, it was really comforting to eat.
No wonder people in the South love Radish Cakes; they taste really fantastic.
Lin Xu finished one piece and then tried the Salt Water Duck.
The duck skin was aromatic and smooth, the meat tender and juicy with a rich umami flavor, especially the unique salty taste from the salt, making it irresistible.
Even though Lin Xu wasn’t from Jinling, he was a bit addicted at this moment.
If he could eat this every day, stopping by for half a duck on the way home from work would be blissful.
After returning to Beijing the day after tomorrow, he’d quickly put the Salt Water Duck back on the menu.
Just finished the Chinese New Year, it’s time to introduce some fresh meaty dishes to everyone for variety.
At the table nearby, Zhang Chunsheng, who had been doubtful about how the Salt Water Duck would turn out, was now eating the duck voraciously, highly praising Lin Xu’s culinary skills:
"I really didn’t expect Salt Water Duck to be this delicious. It pairs perfectly with liquor."
Shen Guofu chimed in:
"That’s right, just one bite and I knew Brother Chunsheng would be having at least half a kilo today."
Jia Xingwang picked up a piece of duck meat and placed it on his own plate, laughing:
"For Brother Chunsheng, half a kilo is just a taste. On the day of the Winter Solstice, Wenming brewed a pot of big bones, and he drank nearly a kilo and a half."
"Whoa, that’s a lot! Brother Chunsheng would be exceptional at running business."
Zhang Chunsheng chuckled:
"I’m not much of a talker, running business isn’t for me, and I don’t have many hobbies, just smoking and drinking. I know it’s not good for my health, but it’s just what I enjoy, so I’ll keep eating and drinking until I can’t anymore."
He’s a classic happy-go-lucky type.
Shen Guofu said:
"You should keep it moderate, not overdo it. We still need Brother Chunsheng’s help in managing business here, so take care of yourself."
While chatting, the salt-fried lamb was served, with Lin Xu and Shi Wenming bringing a platter to each table.
An entire lamb, definitely enough for everyone.
And unlike last time’s mountain goat, this time it was authentic prairie lamb, tender, plump, and deliciously aromatic.
There’s a knack to eating lamb. Generally, lamb that can be dipped in water is of good quality; lesser quality ones either foam up or have a strong odor in water.
Lamb that can withstand the test of water is worth cooking in a simpler way.
With the lamb served, those drinking continued, while others began preparing rice or grabbing steamed buns to start their lunch.
Out-of-towners aren’t really keen on steamed buns; they don’t consider them a staple. But for those in North China, it’s an indispensable part of each meal.
Apart from buns, there’s noodles. As for rice, it was something eaten occasionally to spice up life.
It’s only in recent years that more people have started eating rice.
Back in the day, Zhang Chunsheng went South to work with villagers and, unable to get used to rice, always felt unfulfilled, losing over ten pounds in a month.
Upon returning home, he gobbled down several freshly steamed buns, finally feeling satisfied.
