Chapter 445: Chapter 230: Ye Weiyang’s Mess

When Zheng Xiu killed the Crow Fosterer, he never expected that it would completely dismantle Ye Weiyang.

All that was left was a huge mess.

It was really... complicated.

Although Zheng Xiu felt he could take or leave the title of "Red King," the Great Emperor had already given the Zheng Clan plenty of benefits before he was tasked with this business. Coupled with his involvement with Zhu, Zheng Xiu had now decided to take on this mess. If he could manage to turn it around, it might just elevate the Zheng Clan’s status within Daqian to an unprecedented level.

"Tell all the old members who are willing to follow a new lord to gather at the East Training Ground ten days from now, before sunrise."

’Before sunrise?’

’In the middle of the night?’

Xi’er thought the timing was strange, but she didn’t ask any questions and simply nodded in agreement.

"Yes, Prince."

After some consideration, Zheng Xiu mulled over Xi’er’s words and suddenly realized she seemed to have forgotten something.

"By the way, what about Lower Six?"

Having spent a hundred years in the painting, Zheng Xiu had become somewhat forgetful, as if senile, and had completely forgotten that he’d taken out two different people in the Lower Six position in a short span of time.

Upon hearing this, Xi’er’s expression turned odd. "The current Lower Six... isn’t exactly up to the task."

"Who?"

"Dou Xie. You should have seen him at the reunion feast, Prince. He’s that tactless little brat on the Scholars Path who’s always copying books."

"Oh," Zheng Xiu remembered him now—the one who was always vomiting and getting beaten up. He nodded in agreement. "That he is."

"So, in ten days, should we ask him to come?"

Xi’er asked hesitantly.

"...Ask him to come. It’s always good to have one more person who can take a beating."

"You got it, Prince."

Xi’er cheered internally, ’The Prince is brilliant!’

Since she was already there, Zheng Xiu had Xi’er stay for dinner at the mansion that evening.

Xi’er looked all around but still couldn’t see Senior Zheng Shan, and she couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.

The Red King Mansion was full of people, so the kitchens cooked in large batches. But in the main hall, the only ones dining were Zheng Erniang, Feng Bei, the four personal maids, and other members of the household with whom Zheng Xiu was familiar.

Qing Shisan and his brothers, along with the other maids in the mansion, ate separately.

After serving the dishes, Yin Qingqing quietly returned to her room to dine alone.

At the dinner table, Xi’er stared, dumbfounded, as an orange cat swaggered onto the table. A plate of steamed scallion fish sat before it. The orange cat used its paws to hold a pair of Jade Chopsticks, deftly picking up pieces of fish and stuffing them into its mouth, making loud smacking sounds.

Watching the cat’s disturbingly human-like posture, Xi’er’s mouth fell open and remained that way for a long time.

The most outrageous part was that the pair of Jade Chopsticks even had two words carved on them: "Imperial Gift."

Those were goddamn chopsticks gifted by the Emperor!

She quickly recognized it as the "Soul-Luring Lamp" that Feng Bei had adopted.

’Wait, this one’s nothing like my Pang’er!’

’This one can use chopsticks!’

At the dinner table, Xi’er mustered up the courage to ask the Prince how he had taught the orange cat to use chopsticks.

Zheng Xiu answered nonchalantly, "I just gave it the chopsticks."

’That simple?’

Xi’er secretly nodded to herself, deciding to try it when she got home.

After dinner, Xi’er took her leave, saying she had to go home to grind her Miracle Technique and practice her Path.

Seeing such a motivated subordinate, the Prince was inwardly pleased and gave Xi’er a raise on the spot.

When Xi’er heard she was getting a raise, she became even more motivated. Patting her chest, she guaranteed that in ten days, she would do her absolute best and pull every string she could to get the old members of Ye Weiyang to the East Training Ground.

Sometimes, being an Undercover agent wasn’t entirely a bad thing.

Especially an agent who was practically out in the open—one whose identity was an open secret to both sides.

At that point, the agent is no longer just Undercover; they are a "Middleman."

For example, Yin Qingqing was the Middleman between the Great Emperor and the Red King.

When Xi’er was Yue Yan, she was the Middleman between the Zheng Clan and Ye Weiyang.

Thanks to the Middleman’s efforts, Xi’er acted as the go-between, and nearly all the old members of Ye Weiyang agreed to assemble at the East Training Ground in ten days, before the cock’s crow.

But partway through, Xi’er sent back a message: of the members of the Twelfth Moon she could currently contact, one was proving to be quite difficult and was unwilling to return.

Zheng Xiu tore up the secret message and tossed it into a brazier, where it burned to ashes. He thought back on its contents.

’Gu Qiutang, was it? My impression of this person wasn’t bad.’

Zheng Xiu lay back in his Grandmaster’s Chair, arms crossed. On the table, a golden silk vine was vibrantly green. The little orange cat hopped onto the table and curiously pawed at the wisp of green.

"In that case, I’ll go invite them myself."

Zheng Xiu said with a smile.
