I'm Already a God, and You're Only Now Telling Me There Are Monsters?
Chapter 9: Suspected Transmigration
Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Suspected Transmigration
They went backstage. It was empty.
As soon as they were somewhere else, the alumnus was like a different person. He immediately dropped a bombshell:
"Junior, those success stories I was just talking about on stage? They were almost all fabricated. Don’t take any of it seriously."
Gu Qing didn’t speak, quietly waiting for him to continue.
The alumnus smirked. "Did you really think I got rich running an online store overseas?"
"Let me be frank with you. I actually made the big bucks through franchising."
"A lot of stay-at-home moms have a decent amount of savings and harbor a dream of becoming a boss and making big money."
"I created an online store brand and specifically targeted these moms for franchising, reaping the money their husbands nearly killed themselves to earn and save."
’Damn, what a scumbag.’
Gu Qing remained calm on the outside, but he was shocked on the inside.
He never would have thought that this outstanding graduate, who seemed so glamorous on the surface, could be so utterly devoid of morals behind the scenes.
The alumnus continued:
"Junior, remember what I’m about to say."
"And that is—"
"Poor people’s money is hard to earn, but easy to scam."
The alumnus explained patiently:
"It’s hard to earn because the poor are stingy. They’ll pinch every penny until it splits in two."
"It’s easy to scam because the poor have a low level of awareness and are foolish enough to think starting a business and being a boss is easy. They’re always chasing unrealistic fantasies."
"And those stay-at-home moms who’ve never really had a job, who just stay home and raise kids, are mostly this type of poor and foolish person. The little savings they have are the easiest to scam."
"Well, I shouldn’t say scam. It’s more accurate to say ’earn.’"
"After all, making money through franchising is perfectly legal and aboveboard."
At this point, the alumnus finally revealed his true intentions. With a smile, he asked:
"Junior, I think you’re exactly the kind of talent my company needs. Are you interested in coming to work for me?"
Gu Qing was puzzled. "With so many people here, why did you single me out, senior?"
"Because you’re handsome."
"What do you mean?"
The alumnus explained, "The reason I was able to get rich by preying on these moms, aside from being a good talker, is more importantly because I have a handsome face."
"And you, junior, are even more handsome than I am. You’re better-looking than a lot of celebrities. With a little specialized training to sharpen your tongue, your lethality against these moms would be maxed out."
"You have to understand, a lot of these moms are lonely young wives. They have almost zero resistance to a good-looking guy like you."
"Instead of suspecting you’re a scammer, they’re more likely to think they’ve met their Prince Charming."
"With just a little persuasion, you could easily empty their savings, maybe even get them to borrow money to franchise my brand."
The alumnus paused, his face a mask of sincerity. "I’m being really sincere here, junior. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been so frank with you right from the start. So, what do you say? Will you consider joining my company?"
After listening to the alumnus’s whole spiel, Gu Qing knew what Attributes he could get from his [Tycoon] tag.
One was:
[Earning Ability +1]
The other was:
[Conscience -1]
That’s right, Conscience -1.
’It just goes to show, people with no conscience really do have an easier time making big money.’
"No thanks, senior. My career goal isn’t to go into sales."
Gu Qing directly rejected the alumnus’s offer.
It wasn’t that he didn’t like money.
Nor was it because he had a conscience.
It was because becoming a tycoon held absolutely no appeal for him now that he had a cheat.
Compared to becoming a financially independent tycoon, he was more interested in becoming a Superman with off-the-charts combat power.
As long as his own combat power was high enough, money and power would just be byproducts that followed naturally.
Watching Gu Qing’s departing figure, the alumnus shook his head and chuckled.
"College students who haven’t entered the real world are so stupid. An alumnus like me is willing to take him under my wing and show him how to make money, and he doesn’t even know enough to latch on. Once he graduates and gets a brutal reality check from society, he’ll know regret."
The words had barely left his mouth when a sweet and cute-looking girl appeared from out of nowhere and asked, "Senior, I’m very good-looking too. Can I latch onto you and make money?"
The alumnus turned toward the voice, and his eyes instantly lit up.
The girl before him was petite with a fair complexion and a touch of baby fat. She looked like a high school student, so fresh and delicate she seemed to glow.
Slightly concealing the wicked thoughts in his heart, the alumnus smiled. "Of course you can. A beautiful junior like you is exactly the kind of High-Level talent my company is desperate for. I just so happen to have an opening for a personal assistant. I wonder if you might be interested?"
...
「A few days later, in the afternoon.」
Gu Qing was holed up in his dorm, furiously munching on snacks with Qian Duole while playing a team game with Chen Zijie.
After these few days of effort, he had managed to grind all his Attributes to a high level.
[Cumulative Reaction Speed +63]
[Cumulative Digestion Ability +78]
[Cumulative Physical Strength +20]
[Cumulative Learning Ability +26]
’This Physical Strength is increasing way too slowly...’
Gu Qing was a little worried.
Of all the Attributes, Physical Strength was his favorite.
Unfortunately, basketball was a high-intensity sport, and he could only play for three hours a day at most.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t handle it.
It was his teammate, Gao Fei, who couldn’t keep up.
Because for those three hours, he was engaged in intense competition on the court the entire time.
With him on the court, his team almost never got a chance to come off for a break.
They’d beat one team after another.
They dominated the court from beginning to end.
Every time he played on a team with Gu Qing, Gao Fei would be completely exhausted by the end, exclaiming that the game was more intense than his girlfriend, leaving his legs feeling like jelly. "I can’t take it anymore, I’m done, I’m done!"
As for why his [Digestion Ability] had increased by over ten points more than his [Reaction Speed]... that was all down to the sheer "skill" of Qian Duole, the [Big Eater].
That little fatty of a roommate never stopped eating snacks.
He ate while walking, ate during class, and ate while gaming.
He was seriously just eating, eating, eating, eating, eating all the time.
It was great for Gu Qing, who was happily farming his Attributes.
’Going by this growth rate, in two more days at most, I’ll have accumulated 100 points in Digestion Ability and unlock the Attribute—Devouring.’
Gu Qing thought, looking at his Digestion Ability stat.
Just as he was thinking, he heard a CREAK.
The dorm room door opened.
Gao Fei, who had been out on a date with his girlfriend, returned triumphantly, covered in bright red hickeys.
Qian Duole and Chen Zijie looked over, their faces instantly filled with envy.
Both of them were still single since birth and had never even held a girl’s hand.
"Let me tell you guys something big, on the down-low."
Gao Fei took off his sneakers, slipped on his sandals, and said to the other three with a mysterious expression, "It’s about that alumnus who came to our college a few days ago to give that talk."
Gu Qing raised an eyebrow. "Don’t tell me he got caught scamming people and someone came looking for him and beat him up."
"Scamming people?"
Gao Fei was a bit confused.
He had no idea that the alumnus had gotten rich by scamming moms with a franchise brand.
"It’s nothing, just spitballing. Go on, drop the big news."
Gu Qing ceded the floor back to Gao Fei for his gossip.
Gao Fei took a sip of water and said:
"That alumnus has gone missing. He disappeared on the same day he came to our school for the talk. Security footage shows he never left the campus."
Hearing this, the other three all felt a chill run down their spines.
Qian Duole looked terrified. "What’s going on? How did someone else disappear from school? Don’t tell me there’s some psycho killer at our school, is there?"
Gao Fei shook his head. "Instead of a psycho killer, I think it’s more likely he was transported to another world."
Chen Zijie was intrigued. "How so?"
Gao Fei said, "Well, the Security Officers have investigated several times already, and they can’t find a single clue. The guy just vanished into thin air on campus. The only explanation is that he was transported to another world."
’Transported to another world?’
’You know, it’s actually possible.’
’After all, if I could awaken a cheat, it’s perfectly reasonable for someone else to get transported to another world or something.’
’It’s just... both of these disappearances happened at my school.’
’If those two people weren’t transported but were actually murdered, then that’s a little terrifying.’
’I hope nothing crazy happens at school.’
’I just want to quietly farm my Attributes and get stronger.’
Gu Qing thought to himself.
