Chapter 95: Chapter 90: My Dear Captain

Bullets struck the ground at their feet, kicking up a trail of sparks.

The alley entrance was blocked. At least ten Guard Team soldiers aimed their firearms at the four of them. White Phosphorus and Lighthouse stood behind the soldiers.

Armed drones circled overhead, their searchlights illuminating the entire alley as brightly as day.

[Gray Card Event Triggered: Knocking on Death’s Door]

[Event Explanation: There is always cannon fodder who thinks they are hard to kill, but in reality, they are just headstrong.]

[Event Requirement: You or the other party must ensure that the one actively seeking death actually dies.]

[Event Reward: 300 words, One-time Item x1]

After returning to her cannon fodder Identity, Yin Zhen once again began to enjoy the beginner benefits. Whenever she encountered a life-and-death crisis, a Gray Card event would trigger.

"Fire!" White Phosphorus waved her hand, issuing the command.

Amidst the hail of bullets, Zoe conjured a Water Curtain. However, her body trembled uncontrollably, making the barrier as thin as paper. A few bullets pierced through the Water Curtain, tearing into Ella’s shoulder, while another grazed Jenny’s face.

Jenny shielded the frail Ella behind her, pulling several grenades from her flat pockets and hurling them outward.

Yin Zhen narrowed her eyes slightly. There was nothing in Jenny’s pockets. This had to be her Extraordinary Ability, something akin to pulling items out of thin air.

Then there was Ella. Her small frame was clearly malnourished, and her hair was nothing more than a freshly sprouted layer of stubble. On the way here, Yin Zhen had noticed a string of erased codes on Ella’s wrist—something only Blood Beasts from the Blood Feeding Ground would have.

Ella was the Player who had transmigrated as a Blood Beast and a member of Nan Jiamu’s main protagonist group. She was originally one of the Clones but was now a member of the Blood Clan. It was highly likely she had been transformed later in order to operate within the Rebel Army.

Zoe let out a muffled grunt as a bullet struck her shoulder.

Yin Zhen decisively raised her hand—Magnetic Control.

The bullets flying through the air suddenly veered off course, pelting the adjacent walls. The armed drones at the alley entrance abruptly sank, as if yanked by an invisible hand, and smashed into the ground amidst the Guard Team soldiers. The fiery explosion lit up the entire alley.

A gap was torn open in the encirclement. Clutching her bleeding arm, Jenny stared at Yin Zhen with wide eyes, never expecting her Extraordinary Ability to be this strong.

"Take them and go," Yin Zhen told Zoe quickly.

Zoe didn’t hesitate. Currents of water wrapped around the severely injured Ella as they dashed toward the opening. Jenny followed closely behind, tossing bombs over her shoulder as she ran.

Yin Zhen pulled all the surrounding metallic objects toward her, piling them up in the middle of the alley to form a makeshift wall.

Suddenly, a fist burning with Blood Flame smashed through the wall. Amidst the flying debris, White Phosphorus charged out of the ruins, her eyes bloodshot.

"None of you are getting away today!"

Yin Zhen drew the two ordinary handguns tucked into her lower back and fired at White Phosphorus continuously. Already prepared, Lighthouse darted out from behind White Phosphorus. Iron Bone covered his entire body. The bullets struck his chest, ricocheting off with a few sparks.

White Phosphorus was incredibly fast. In the blink of an eye, she was right in front of Yin Zhen, her flaming fist hurtling straight for her face.

Yin Zhen channeled her blood to surge into her legs, instantly boosting her speed. As she dodged the punch, the Strength of blood resonance erupted, and she delivered a brutal kick to White Phosphorus’s abdomen.

White Phosphorus was sent flying backward. Lighthouse reached out to catch her, but the immense force knocked him over along with her.

Yin Zhen stood in the middle of the alley, her cold, stern voice ringing out from beneath her mask.

"If you don’t want to die, get lost."

White Phosphorus climbed to her feet, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth. Anger fueled her Blood Flame, making it burn even brighter. Today, she had to capture these Rebel Army leaders and interrogate them about the captain’s whereabouts.

"Don’t run!"

Lighthouse also scrambled up, and the two pursued relentlessly.

Yin Zhen caught up with Zoe and the others, only to find that the other end of the alley was also completely surrounded by Guard Team soldiers. More armed drones arrived as reinforcements, firing down at them from high above.

They were trapped in the middle!

It would have been easy for Zoe to escape on her own, but Jenny and Ella were still there. Zoe could only grit her teeth and hold on. Activating Iron Bone, she braved the barrage of bullets and swiftly fought her way over to the Guard Team soldiers.

The instant Zoe’s hand touched a soldier, his entire body shriveled up as if rapidly dehydrated. Zoe’s pupils turned green.

This was Ian’s Extraordinary Ability!

The plundered Life Force healed Zoe’s gunshot wounds, allowing her to gather her Water Curtain once more to protect Jenny and Ella.

But there were simply too many Guard Team members, and their Weapons and equipment were too powerful. It was still incredibly difficult for them to break through.

"Reinforcements will be here any second!" Jenny shouted to Zoe.

Yin Zhen intervened again, pulling down an armed helicopter from above and smashing it into the crowd of Guard Team soldiers.

A fist burning with Blood Flame struck from behind Yin Zhen. She dodged sideways, her gaze rapidly turning icy as she looked at White Phosphorus and Lighthouse.

"I gave you a chance!"

"Cut the crap!"

White Phosphorus threw another punch. Yin Zhen raised her hand and caught White Phosphorus’s wrist. Blood surged into her arm, causing her Strength to skyrocket.

White Phosphorus’s pupils shrank drastically. She couldn’t break free.

Yin Zhen flung her to the side. White Phosphorus crashed into the wall, shattering the surface.

Lighthouse lunged from behind. Without turning around, Yin Zhen let the shadow beneath her feet spring up, tangling around his ankles and tripping him.

He struggled to get up, but Yin Zhen planted her foot on his back. Channeling blood into her leg, she ground her heel down with vicious force.

CRACK!

Lighthouse’s metallic skin caved in, and several bones fractured. He let out a muffled groan and coughed up blood, pinned to the ground and unable to rise.

Yin Zhen drew Night Song and aimed it at the back of Lighthouse’s head.

"Lighthouse!"

White Phosphorus burst from the rubble, her Blood Flame burning at its brightest. Just as she prepared to rush over and save him, she saw Night Song in Yin Zhen’s hand. She froze in disbelief.

The next second... BANG!

A cluster of sparks erupted from the back of Lighthouse’s head. The bullet lodged into his metallic skin but failed to penetrate. His body convulsed violently, but he was firmly bound to the ground by the Shadow Servant, unable to break free.

Yin Zhen kept her foot on Lighthouse’s back and pulled the trigger again.

BANG BANG BANG!

Three consecutive shots hit the exact same spot. The bullets chipped open a crack, and blood seeped through the fissure. Lighthouse groaned in agony, struggling frantically.

Rage made the veins bulge all over his body. The degree of his body’s metallization deepened rapidly, as if undergoing a sudden qualitative change.

White Phosphorus swung her flaming fist forward. Yin Zhen’s cold, sharp eyes shot up fiercely from beneath her mask.

All the surrounding metallic objects were forcibly ripped free, hurtling toward White Phosphorus in an overwhelming torrent.

White Phosphorus blasted a swathe of them away with a single punch. Then, she heard the charging sound of Night Song—it was like the aria of the Grim Reaper.

BANG!

As White Phosphorus smashed through an incoming dumpster, she watched in horror as a bullet pierced through the back of Lighthouse’s head and exited from the center of his brow, splattering blood and brain matter across the ground.

Lighthouse’s body went rigid. His raised head slammed heavily onto the floor. The metallic skin faded, revealing his honest, simple face.

"Ahhh! I’ll kill you!"

White Phosphorus let out a hoarse howl. Her Blood Flame blazed with unprecedented intensity, a trace of black surfacing at the core of the blood-red fire. But before she could charge forward, Yin Zhen suddenly appeared right in front of her.

SQUELCH!

A steel pipe, enhanced by Molecular Sharpening, pierced straight through White Phosphorus’s heart. The tremendous force pinned her entirely into the wall behind her.

White Phosphorus’s fist froze in midair, her Blood Flame instantly extinguishing. She looked down at the steel pipe in her chest, staring in disbelief at the blood welling up around it.

Vomiting a large mouthful of blood, White Phosphorus struggled to raise her other fist, swinging it at Yin Zhen’s face.

Yin Zhen didn’t dodge. The fist brushed past her mask, knocking it loose. It fell to the ground, revealing Yin Zhen’s cold-blooded, ruthless face—a face White Phosphorus was all too familiar with.

White Phosphorus’s pupils constricted to the absolute limit as her entire body trembled unstoppably.

"Captain..."

Yin Zhen used magnetic force to pull her mask back up and secure it onto her face. Her lips, gradually being concealed, moved slightly.

"Your captain died a long time ago."

White Phosphorus stared wide-eyed. Her tears fell in tandem with her arm dropping lifelessly to her side, blood trickling down the steel pipe.

[Gray Card Event "Knocking on Death’s Door" completed. Gained 300 words, Item: I am headstrong x1]

[I am headstrong: One-time Item. Call out the Item’s name, and for the next 5 minutes, your head will become as hard as iron. Highly effective for both offense and defense.]

The roar of countless motorcycles echoed from the distance. The Rebel Army’s reinforcements had arrived!

The Guard Team’s encirclement was torn open from the rear. The gunfire at the alley entrance grew sparse as the Guard Team soldiers began to retreat.

Yin Zhen pierced White Phosphorus and Lighthouse’s wounds with blood silk.

[Resonance successful. You have obtained A-level Iron Bone.]

[Resonance successful. You have obtained A-level Blood Flame.]

A-level?

She wondered, "Weren’t they all B-level Extraordinary Abilities? Did they break through in that fleeting moment between life and death just now?"

"May! Hurry, let’s go!" Zoe shouted at Yin Zhen, clutching her bleeding arm.

Jenny supported Ella and helped her onto a motorcycle that had drifted to a halt at the alley entrance.

Headlights swept wildly through the alley. The Rebel Army members, dressed in eccentric outfits like a gang of street thugs, wielded bizarrely shaped Weapons as they engaged in a firefight with the Guard Team soldiers.

Yin Zhen also spotted several androids sitting on the back of the motorcycles. Wearing holographic glasses, the indicator lights on their temples flashed furiously. Almost instantly, the armed drones in the sky spun out of control, crashing into the walls and self-destructing.

Yin Zhen stored Night Song back into her game inventory and quickly sprinted in Zoe’s direction.
