Chapter 80: Chapter 75: Dead

Quentin sprinted frantically through the ruins, blood still seeping from the bullet holes in his body. The Item given to him by the Black Domain Walker had saved his life, but it did nothing for his injuries.

He didn’t dare stop. He knew someone was chasing him—just like a Hunter deliberately letting its prey escape after wounding it.

Watching the prey slowly drain its stamina in fear and struggle, slowly descending into despair.

"Damn it!"

Quentin felt as if he could never shake off the person behind him, no matter what he did. What he didn’t know was that Yin Zhen had planted a Mind Beacon on him the moment he ran.

This Extraordinary Ability wasn’t just for communication; it could also be used to mark prey.

Yin Zhen didn’t need to see where Quentin was. An invisible thread extended from the depths of her consciousness, passing through the ruins and the darkness to tie itself to him.

He couldn’t escape!

Three ordinary members of the Blood Clan suddenly rushed out of a collapsed factory building, blocking Yin Zhen’s path.

Yin Zhen transformed into a cloud of black smoke, phasing right between the three of them and teleporting into the shadows ten meters away.

The Shadow Servant, however, was left behind in their midst. Clutching two pitch-black blades, it slashed at the three Blood Clan members before they could even react.

The sound of blades slicing through flesh and bone echoed from behind her, followed by agonized screams.

Yin Zhen continued walking expressionlessly until she finally spotted her prey.

Quentin couldn’t run anymore. He slumped against a half-collapsed wall, blood gushing from the bullet holes in his chest and abdomen. His fingers trembled from massive blood loss, and his Extraordinary Ability was rapidly weakening.

His Adam’s apple bobbed as he desperately craved the nourishment of fresh blood.

Seeing Yin Zhen, a hint of fear flickered in Quentin’s eyes. He tried to manipulate the surrounding metal. A few steel rebars trembled as they floated up from the ruins, hovering in front of him.

Yin Zhen stood ten paces away from him. On her bloodstained mask, the mouth outlined by red light formed a sinister grin.

Gritting his teeth, Quentin waved his hand, shooting the steel rebars at Yin Zhen.

Yin Zhen dissolved into black smoke. The rebars pierced through the spot where she vanished, embedding themselves into the wall behind her.

The sinisterly grinning mask suddenly enlarged in front of Quentin. His pupils contracted sharply, but before he could even raise his hand, Yin Zhen delivered a brutal, flying kick to his face.

BANG!

Quentin was sent flying. He crashed onto the ground and rolled twice.

Blood poured from his broken nose, mixing with dirt and gravel to plaster his entire face.

He spat out broken teeth and struggled to his feet. Just as he propped his upper body up, countless bright red blood silks lunged at his face, cutting into his flesh and piercing his bullet holes. The cold barrel of a gun pressed against his chin, making his entire body stiffen.

Yin Zhen crouched in front of him. Behind the mask, her eyes held absolutely no emotion.

"If you dare step into my territory, you must be prepared to die!"

BANG!

The bullet pierced his skull, blowing out the top of Quentin’s head. He collapsed onto the ground like a pile of Mud.

[Killed Blood Clan Invader (A-level). Rewarded 1,000 words, attribute points x10.]

[Event ’Overture of War’ completion progress: 90%.]

[He is dead, but someone will continue to execute his mission. That ghost hiding in the dark of night is watching you.]

Hearing the system prompt, Yin Zhen frowned. She quickly searched Quentin’s body and found a cell phone that had somehow survived the hail of bullets.

As Yin Zhen picked it up, a sentence appeared on the screen.

[You cannot stop me! I hope you enjoy the gift in the forum!]

The phone’s temperature spiked rapidly. Yin Zhen instantly tossed it away and teleported backward.

BANG!

The phone exploded. The Shadow Servant walked out from the darkness, glanced at Yin Zhen, looked at the distant flames, and silently merged back into the shadow beneath her feet.

Yin Zhen returned to the corpse. Taking advantage of the fact that Bai Qiang and Nan Jiamu hadn’t arrived yet, she used her blood silk to resonate with Quentin’s Extraordinary Ability.

[Resonance failed.]

[Resonance failed.]

[Resonance successful. You have acquired A-level Magnetic Control.]

[Warning: Assimilation Degree has exceeded 50%!]

Yin Zhen’s gums began to itch. Two fangs uncontrollably extended as her craving for fresh blood rapidly intensified.

But she didn’t retract her blood silk; instead, she resonated with Quentin’s memories.

It was night, and there were no humans around to trigger her loss of control. As long as she unequipped the Character Card before the Assimilation Degree exceeded 89%, she would be fine.

After a round of resonance, Yin Zhen found no clues regarding the Black Domain Walker. He and Quentin had never met in person. The Black Domain Walker always initiated contact via the phone, and the Items in Quentin’s possession had been delivered to him by the Black Domain Walker through a courier service.

There was a high probability that tracing the courier service would yield nothing either.

Yin Zhen glanced at the forum. As expected, there was a new Player death announcement.

Tonight, the Black Domain Walker had once again launched a two-pronged operation—having Quentin deal with them on this side, while simultaneously hunting down another Player elsewhere.

Yin Zhen made a point to check: the Dark Destiny card had faded once more, gaining a slightly transparent quality.

Fate had chosen the Black Domain Walker, granting him formidable Strength and ample motivation, pushing him to become the new villain of the Ancient Abyss.

The sound of children crying drifted over from the direction of the tower crane. Yin Zhen cast a glance that way.

If they could cry, it meant they were alive.

"Let’s go."

Yin Zhen left with the Shadow Servant, not wanting to have too much contact with Bai Qiang and Nan Jiamu.

Beneath the tower crane, Bai Qiang had enveloped all the children in shadows the moment the iron cage fell to the ground, relocating them to a safe place.

Nan Jiamu had called for an ambulance, a wave of lingering fear washing over her.

Crouching down, Bai Qiang rubbed a few of the children’s heads. "It’s okay now. Don’t be afraid. Look at the uniform on this lady next to me—she’s a police officer. She’ll take you back to your mommies and daddies."

The children were still crying, one after another clinging to her and refusing to let go.

"Look, Sun Wukong!"

Bai Qiang pointed abruptly to the side. As the children turned their heads with sniffling noses, she teleported away without a trace.

The moment she left, the children’s cries immediately grew much louder. Nan Jiamu’s face scrunched up.

She really, truly didn’t like kids at all!

Bai Qiang found Quentin’s mangled corpse, which had been blown beyond recognition. She also saw the 90% completion prompt for her mission, along with the new death notice in the forum.

There was also a new private message in the forum from Blossoming Prosperity.

[Blossoming Prosperity]: The target has been killed. We are even.

Bai Qiang typed out a reply a few times, only to delete it again and again. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.

"Forget it. I’ll handle the rest myself," she muttered out loud. "With a massive population of over ten million in Guan City, finding the Black Domain Walker definitely won’t be easy."

Bai Qiang headed back to the stockyard, only to see Nan Jiamu on the verge of a breakdown, completely mobbed by hugging toddlers.

"Miss Nan, I have a..."

"Don’t say it. I’m not listening. If I trust you again, I’m a dog!"

Nan Jiamu could already confirm that this person in the blue mask was Heavenly Dao Rewards Diligence, and the other one was Blossoming Prosperity. Indeed, their combat prowess was terrifyingly high, and they were cold-blooded, too.

Bai Qiang offered a polite smile, and a prompt popped up in Nan Jiamu’s system.

[Heavenly Dao Rewards Diligence has shared a Special event with you. Do you accept?]

Nan Jiamu looked at Bai Qiang suspiciously. Bai Qiang simply blinked her sincere eyes and maintained her smile.
