In the dimly lit children’s ward, a frail little girl curled up on the hospital bed. Hugging her knees, she looked up at the nurse, Fang Anya.

“Nurse, did… did Mommy and Daddy abandon me?”

Fang Anya sat down and wrapped an arm around the girl’s shoulders. Forcing a smile, she said, “They just need some time. Focus on your treatment for now. They will definitely come to take you home.”

The little girl smiled instead. “It’s okay, Nurse. It’s really okay. At least this way… at least… Mommy and Daddy can live a good life. They won’t have to secretly wipe away tears every night because of me anymore.”

…

A cold, empty operating room.

The little girl lay on the operating table, her consciousness blurring. The lights were blinding, and no one else was around.

A hushed voice drifted to her ears. It was Doctor Luo, making a phone call in the corner.

“Mr. Yin, you have to understand that I am committing murder here! Do you know how much risk I’m taking? If you can’t give me the amount I want, we’ll call the whole thing off. Your father can forget about getting this heart!”

…

In another, larger operating room, this time crowded with people.

The little girl stood off to the side. She clearly watched as the doctors cut open the chest of the body lying on the bed—her physical body—extracted her heart, and carefully transplanted it into an old man lying on another operating table.

Everyone rejoiced at the old man’s recovery.

A man appeared beside the little girl. She looked up but couldn’t make out his face, only noticing that he was holding a pitch-black bracelet.

“Are you sad? Or resentful?”

The little girl felt confused, yet somehow she understood. Watching her own heart beat once again inside the old man’s body, she began to smile.

“I’m not sad. I feel very happy! I’m finally useful for once. My heart… it saved someone, right?”

“To think you stayed behind because of such an emotion? Truly rare.”

…

A dark underground space, surrounded by mirrors.

The little girl stood beside the clay jar, looking at her own reflection inside. She looked up again at the man whose face remained obscured. He was still holding the pitch-black bracelet.

“As long as I stay here, everyone will be happy, right?”

“Yes. By using your soul to bear their despair and resentment, they will be able to reincarnate and live another… happy life.”

An innocent, satisfied smile bloomed on the little girl’s face, as if she had finally found her ultimate home and value.

“I didn’t know I could do so much. Okay, I will stay here forever, until… until everyone is happy.”

…

The stream of memories abruptly cut off. Yin Zhen violently pulled her consciousness back, overwhelmed by an intense anger and nausea that made her physically sick.

“Bastards!”

“What’s wrong?” Bai Qiang asked.

Yin Zhen briefly recounted the scenes she had just witnessed to Bai Qiang.

“Animals!” Bai Qiang took a deep breath to steady her emotions. “So the fire back then happened because Luo Wensheng was discovered by the Ghost Doctor, and he decided to just go all out and burn down the entire building? How utterly deranged!”

After Bai Qiang finished speaking, Yin Zhen glanced at the event progress. There was no change.

Yin Zhen carefully deduced the sequence of events and said, “The fire ten years ago was caused by Yu Dahai’s mistake. That part should be true. In his memories, he clearly remembered that, in a panic, he tossed a cigarette butt into a pile of junk containing discarded patient bedsheets and the like. He always regretted this. Moreover, when the fire grew out of control, he didn’t even call the police or alert anyone else. He just ran away, not even bothering to save his own hospitalized father.

“That coughing ghost should be Yu Dahai’s father. As for Luo Wensheng, even if he didn’t start the fire himself, he definitely did something. I’m guessing that when he saw the fire, he suddenly realized it was the perfect opportunity to escape accountability. As long as his junior colleague died here, he would be safe. So, he simply locked the downstairs doors, making it impossible for anyone fleeing to leave. They had no choice but to retreat upstairs and ultimately all died on the 14th floor.

“Then, Luo Wensheng escaped with the little girl and later transplanted her heart into Mr. Yin’s father. Everything that happened afterward is definitely tied to this Mr. Yin. As for the man with the bracelet raising ghosts here, he must be an acquaintance of Mr. Yin as well.”

Bai Qiang added, “That makes sense. In the Ghost Doctor’s memories, he saw Luo Wensheng secretly taking medication. He was definitely planning to use it on the little girl. Medication logs are extremely strict. If it weren’t for that fire, Luo Wensheng could never have kept it under wraps. That pressure was more than enough to drive him to do something psychotic. Oh, I remember now! The chairman of the corporation that decided to rebuild Renxin Hospital has the surname Yin. His name is Yin Shicheng. I saw it on the news.”

[Event Progress: 100%]

[Congratulations to the two Players for successfully uncovering the full backstory of Renxin Hospital.]

[Player ‘Blossoming Prosperity’ receives 5,000 words and the Exclusive Ghost Artifact: Doctor Luo’s Scalpel.]

[Player ‘Heavenly Dao Rewards Diligence’ receives 5,000 words and the Exclusive Ghost Artifact: Dr. Cheng’s Medical Record.]

[Doctor Luo’s Scalpel]: His name was Luo Wensheng, a heinous doctor. After his death, he left behind this scalpel stained with the blood of sin. The wielder must directly face a mistake they once covered up or refused to acknowledge, and proactively confess it aloud. If the stated facts are specific and truthful enough, the scalpel will be activated, allowing you to execute an unblockable cut against any target in your line of sight.

[Note]: One sincere confession can only be exchanged for one activation. The confession must have an audience of no less than one person. The larger the audience, the stronger the scalpel’s power. If the audience includes the involved party, the power will reach its absolute peak!

[Dr. Cheng’s Medical Record]: His name was Cheng Nuo, a Holy Father-level doctor whose obsession with saving lives was so strong that he became a ghost after death. By writing down a patient’s true name, symptoms, and treatment method in the medical record, you can summon Doctor Cheng to appear and perform the treatment according to your prescribed method.

[Note]: Doctor Cheng is a doctor, not an idiot; what you write must conform to a doctor’s cognitive understanding. If a patient is treated to death by Doctor Cheng, he will become depressed and harbor resentment toward you, refusing to make house calls for the next 24 hours. If he becomes depressed more than three times, Doctor Cheng will start hunting you down. If the patient’s symptoms are successfully cured, Doctor Cheng will be happy, affirm your diagnosis, and be willing to cancel out one bout of depression or work one shift of overtime for you.

This system announcement appeared in both of their minds simultaneously, allowing them to see the Explanation of each other’s rewards.

Yin Zhen and Bai Qiang exchanged a glance, feeling that they were being subtly mocked by the system.

It was mocking Yin Zhen for being heinous, and mocking Bai Qiang for being a Holy Mother.

“Its praise is still a bit too conservative,” Bai Qiang remarked.

“I also…”

Yin Zhen suddenly noticed that the little girl in the jar had disappeared while they were checking the system Explanation. Now, the jar was completely empty—there was nothing inside!

“Where did she go?!”

Bai Qiang’s scalp instantly prickled with numbness. She raised her flashlight, sweeping the beam across the cold mirrors around them.

Wherever the beam of light passed, both of them widened their eyes in sheer shock.

Countless human silhouettes had silently appeared within the eight mirrors. Densely packed and overlapping, they filled almost every corner of the mirrored space. There were even faint figures reflecting in the mirror beneath their feet.

They wore all sorts of clothes: hospital gowns covered in soot, charred nurse uniforms, and the casual clothes of visiting family members burnt down to mere scraps…

They stood completely motionless in an upright posture, their hollow eye sockets staring unblinkingly at Yin Zhen and Bai Qiang.

[Event Update: Please escape Renxin Hospital within 30 minutes. Upon a successful escape, you can return. The remaining time will be converted into a word count reward.]
