Chapter 145 - 134: Morgue
"AHHH!"
Bai Qiang’s scream arrived before Yin Zhen fully regained consciousness.
In the first-floor lobby, Wei Yang, who was waiting for the head nurse to return with the keys, frowned at Bai Qiang, wondering what kind of fit she was suddenly throwing. Bai Qiang ignored Wei Yang. She glared at Yin Zhen beside her through gritted teeth and reached out to twist Yin Zhen’s ear.
Then Yin Zhen also started screaming, "AHHH!"
"What are you looking at? Can’t I discipline a child?" Bai Qiang dragged Yin Zhen by the ear to a secluded spot. The others exchanged bewildered glances but paid them no more mind.
Yin Zhen was quite surprised that Bai Qiang had retained her memories from before the save was loaded. Bai Qiang, on the other hand, was heartbroken that Yin Zhen had walked away without looking back at the time. Even though, looking at it now, Yin Zhen clearly knew that loading the save would reset everything and thus hadn’t bothered to help her, it was still... too hurtful! She could have at least put on an act!
The gacha machine fell out of Yin Zhen’s clothes. The egg-shaped Zoe displayed an eye-covering emoji, followed by a hand-over-mouth snickering emoji. Zoe had also retained its memories from before the save was loaded and was thoroughly enjoying the show.
Yin Zhen rescued her ear and shoved the spectating Zoe back into her clothes. After triggering the main event this morning, she had immediately saved the game. She never expected it to actually come in handy.
"Could it be because we’re teamed up? Since you remember everything, let’s pool our information again," Yin Zhen said.
Bai Qiang’s eyes widened, and she tilted her head in disbelief. Where was her comfort? Was she not going to get a single word of consolation? She had been hacked to death! And who was she hacked to death for?
Yin Zhen completely missed the complaint in Bai Qiang’s eyes. She quickly checked her status and, just as she expected, her consumed word count and Items had all been restored. This save-loading was the real deal. The event progress had also reverted to ten percent.
"The man upstairs is indeed Yu Dahai. I saw his memories." Yin Zhen spoke in a low voice while Bai Qiang rolled her eyes non-stop. "That day, Yu Dahai was accompanying his hospitalized father on the second floor of the old building. Around two-thirty in the morning, his father woke up coughing. After attending to his father, Yu Dahai couldn’t fall back asleep, so he went to the corridor for a smoke. The hospital was a non-smoking area, so he snuck into the stairwell used for transporting garbage. There was indeed some uncollected trash piled up there at the time.
"Then, Yu Dahai heard people arguing upstairs. Curious, he peeked his head out to look. However, in his memory, he didn’t hear clearly what they were arguing about; he only knew it was two men. He was also discovered. One of the men upstairs shouted, asking who was there. Yu Dahai was afraid of being fined for smoking, so he hurriedly tossed his cigarette butt into the trash and bolted."
When Yin Zhen finished speaking, she noticed that Bai Qiang had stopped rolling her eyes. Her expression was now a bit subtle.
"I know what they were arguing about. I saw the Ghost Doctor’s memories. He was one of the people in the argument." Bai Qiang gathered her thoughts and spoke slowly. "The Ghost Doctor was a responsible and good doctor. That day, he probably rushed back to the hospital in the early hours after receiving a call from a patient’s family. Then... the images in his memory are a bit chaotic. It seemed like he was urgently going to get some medicine when he bumped into another doctor.
"Then, the memory skipped, and they were in the stairwell. He was grabbing the other doctor by the collar, saying, ’Considering you’re my senior, I’ll give you a chance. Go turn yourself in before dawn tomorrow, or don’t blame me for being ruthless.’ That’s all I saw."
Yin Zhen asked, "What’s the name of the doctor he grabbed by the collar?"
"Luo Wensheng."
"He’s the doctor on duty at the ICU tonight. The spare ICU key must have been taken by him. He left the fifteenth floor before the fire alarm went off. Perhaps he even triggered the fire alarm himself. Was he trying to take the opportunity to kill Yu Dahai? Is he the true Source that triggered the Ghost Realm?"
[Event Progress: 90%]
Yin Zhen and Bai Qiang exchanged a glance.
"But where are we supposed to find this Luo Wensheng? He might have already run away," Bai Qiang asked.
Yin Zhen frowned. "Probably not. This last ten percent of the progress is definitely tied to him. He must be in this building."
"Then what do we do next? Go back upstairs to look for him?"
Yin Zhen shook her head. "Upstairs is too dangerous. Let’s follow Wei Yang to the first basement floor and take a look. We’ll decide what to do after destroying the lower suppression eye."
"Alright, I’ll go sweet-talk her!"
Bai Qiang turned and walked toward Wei Yang. After two steps, she paused. Wait a minute, wasn’t she currently mad at Yin Zhen? This girl knew that she wouldn’t make a fuss when they were talking business, so she deliberately ignored her complaints. How sneaky! Forget it. She would properly settle the score with her once the instance was over!
Bai Qiang ultimately convinced Wei Yang to let her tag along to the first basement floor. The head nurse originally wanted to go with them, but Bai Qiang talked her out of it. The first basement floor would definitely be far more perilous than upstairs. The head nurse was a responsible and good person, and Bai Qiang didn’t want her to die here for nothing. She persuaded the head nurse to stay behind and organize the other nurses to look after the patients in the lobby, as well as wait to see if anyone else would come down from upstairs.
