Chapter 123 - 115: The 5th Transmigration
Over the next few days, Bai Qiang argued passionately and matched wits with Shen Qing. She infuriated the forty-something veteran comrade so much that he had to break out his quick-acting heart pills and blood pressure medication.
However, her efforts yielded significant results. Bai Qiang secured enough authority to requisition weapons and the latest technology developed by the research center in preparation for the next transmigration.
Bai Qiang also took the time to pacify Trouble and the rest of his team. Ever since they realized how difficult it would be to avenge Nan Jiamu, the group had been slacking off. They went out into the field every day to hunt down Blood Clan invaders in the city, but outright refused to report for work at the information center.
For the sake of Nan Jiamu’s unfinished business, they decided to temporarily cooperate with Bai Qiang. They joined her newly formed protagonist group, planning to face Chi Hai together after the next transmigration.
Once this matter was resolved, Signal, Logoff, and Xian Yu planned to leave the official organization and become freelancers. Because Trouble’s entire family had been recruited by the organization, he had to stay for the sake of their welfare and benefits. Ye Se, being older, reasoned that a job was a job anywhere; he was quite accustomed to the system, so he also decided to stay.
Bai Qiang had made up her mind long ago. Once this operation was over, she would disband the team and go back to laying low. Of course, she wouldn’t say this out loud to avoid jinxing herself. It was just like Nan Jiamu, who always claimed she wouldn’t die so easily—and look how that turned out.
Time passed day by day amid everyone’s busy schedules. Most of the new Players on the forums had been recruited by the organization through various means, leaving only a small number still in hiding. Everything was progressing in an orderly manner.
Yin Zhen was also busy every day, but unlike Bai Qiang, she was busy babysitting.
Lucy wanted to buy a massive villa, Zoe wanted to go to Joy Valley, and Ying was the most well-behaved—he just needed a place to play video games.
In her free time, Yin Zhen discussed strategies for dealing with Lilith and the others with Zoe, practiced using her Inheritance, continued to refine the Blood and Flesh Ascetic Method, and researched ways for the Residual Sound Blade to sever settings.
Lucy bought several nail guns and modified the robot vacuum cleaner into a weapon. She even offered to manage Yin Zhen’s finances to ensure she could afford a large villa in the future. If Yin Zhen wouldn’t give her a factory, she demanded at least a workshop, just like Iron Man’s. Ying had clearly shown Lucy the movie.
Zoe happily ate and drank every day, but compared to her excitement on the first day, Yin Zhen could tell that she was now harboring some unspoken concerns.
July 30th. The day before the transmigration.
Bai Qiang was delivering the goods Yin Zhen had ordered. They agreed to meet in the suburbs. However, as soon as Bai Qiang left, her car got a flat tire. She called someone from the Special Operations Department for a ride, but their car was hit halfway there. The people were fine, but the car was ruined. Bai Qiang then took a taxi, only for the usually empty road to suddenly suffer a massive traffic jam, making it impossible for her to reach the destination.
When Yin Zhen called to ask about the situation, she glanced at Zoe—who was playing Rock-Paper-Scissors with Ying while sucking on a lollipop—and suddenly remembered the "Kings do not meet" setting.
Yin Zhen silently changed the meeting location and hurried to take Zoe back home.
After meeting up and taking the goods, Bai Qiang suddenly asked if Yin Zhen had any other family members left in this world. Not knowing why she asked, Yin Zhen shook her head and said she didn’t.
Taking two steps away, Yin Zhen stopped in her tracks and added that she had a sister in Chi Hai.
Bai Qiang noticed a smile playing at the corners of Yin Zhen’s lips as she said this. She understood that Yin Zhen was warning her not to target Zoe anymore—she wouldn’t allow it.
July 31st. The last day of the month, and also transmigration day.
Upon waking up in the morning, Yin Zhen asked Zoe, "We’re going to Chi Hai at seven tonight. Is there anything else you want to do?"
Zoe looked at the slightly rounder, unfamiliar face in the bathroom mirror. "Could you come with me to prepare an apology gift for her? If only I could help her change jobs. Her dream is to be a freelance photographer, not print documents at an advertising agency."
Yin Zhen took Zoe out and bought a set of photography equipment for this nameless lady. Then, they returned to the woman’s home and helped tidy up the apartment she’d been too busy working to clean.
Following Zoe’s requests, they threw out the unhealthy convenience foods, stocked the refrigerator with fresh ingredients and fruit, and arranged fresh flowers all around the apartment. Zoe laid out all the new clothes and toys Yin Zhen had bought her—the ones she couldn’t take with her—on the bed. She ordered a large chocolate cake, as if to celebrate a rebirth.
Yin Zhen left one hundred thousand yuan behind. Since this nameless lady had been absent for so many days, her job was definitely gone. If she was brave enough, she could absolutely take this chance to chase her dream.
