Chapter 118: Chapter 111: I’ll Just Watch You Like This
After fulfilling her promise to meet with Bai Qiang, Yin Zhen took Zoe and Lucy to buy clothes. It was mainly for Lucy, as they had nothing at home suitable for an eight-year-old child to wear.
Lucy had no interest in clothes, but she was deeply fascinated by anything electrical around them. The moment they entered the shopping mall, the large screen flashed and displayed garbled code.
“Don’t just hack into any electronic device outside,” Yin Zhen told Lucy.
The mall’s screen returned to normal. Lucy gripped the straps of her small backpack with both hands and looked up. “You told me to hack the surveillance equipment just now.”
“That was for our safety. Unless absolutely necessary, you need to learn to follow the rules of the human world.”
“The rules of the human world sure are flexible.”
Yin Zhen was left speechless.
“May, over here! Over here!”
Zoe, on the other hand, was highly interested in pretty clothes. She ran into a clothing store in the mall, picked out many styles that couldn’t be found in the Red Corpse World, and took them to the fitting room. After trying on each piece, she would run out, twirl in front of Yin Zhen, and ask if it looked good.
After selecting what she wanted for herself, Zoe picked out a yellow dress and gestured with it against Yin Zhen’s body.
“This one. This one will definitely suit you.”
Yin Zhen looked at the bright color. It had been a long time since she had worn new clothes, let alone anything of this shade. She was always dressed in black or gray—clothes that were practical for movement and meant to avoid drawing attention.
But before Yin Zhen could refuse, Zoe pushed her into the fitting room.
Yin Zhen stood before the mirror in the fitting room. The person in the reflection was wearing a yellow dress that fit perfectly. It enhanced her complexion, replacing her usual gloominess with a touch of brightness. It was just that… she wasn’t used to it at all.
Zoe knocked on the door three times from the outside before Yin Zhen finally pulled it open and stepped out. Zoe took a step back, covered her mouth with both hands, widened her eyes, and nodded frantically.
“It looks so good! May, you should only wear this color from now on. Don’t change back into those black clothes.”
Yin Zhen looked down at herself, then looked up at the mirror again. She didn’t say no, nor did she say yes, but when it was time to pay, she checked out the dress along with the rest.
By the time they came out of the clothing store, they realized Lucy was missing.
Yin Zhen searched through half the mall before finally finding her at the entrance of an electronics store. She figured she would have to get the girl a kids’ smartwatch soon.
Lucy’s tiny figure, carrying her old backpack, was pressed against the display window. She scanned the various home appliances inside the store with sparkling eyes.
Yin Zhen walked over and crouched down. “Is there anything you want?”
Lucy stated bluntly, “I want a factory that can manufacture robots.”
Yin Zhen stood up and took Lucy’s hand. “Let’s go home, Lucy. Let’s go home.”
“I want a robot vacuum,” Lucy said instead. “That exact model.”
Yin Zhen didn’t know what Lucy wanted a robot vacuum for. Their house was so small and cluttered that it wasn’t suited for one at all. However, she figured that compared to a factory, a robot vacuum was something she could actually afford.
When Lucy walked out of the electronics store hugging the robot vacuum, she remained expressionless, but Yin Zhen knew she was very happy—she was mimicking Zoe by swaying her head from side to side.
After they finished buying all sorts of summer clothes, shoes, and socks for Lucy, Zoe turned into a food disposal machine.
She wanted to eat candied hawthorn sticks, roasted gluten, and egg waffles. She wanted to drink milk tea. She leaned in to smell stinky tofu and almost threw up her breakfast, but she bravely ate a piece anyway, declaring it the strangest yet most delicious thing she had ever eaten.
Although, truth be told, she hadn’t eaten many things in her life thus far.
Lucy chimed in, “According to my search, other foul-smelling foods include snail rice noodles, stinky mandarin fish, and durian.”
Zoe immediately looked at Yin Zhen. “May, can I…”
“We’ll buy them!”
When Zoe had finally eaten until she couldn’t take another bite, she leaned back on a bench on the pedestrian street, clutching her stomach and taking several deep breaths with her eyes closed.
“May, do you have an Extraordinary Ability that can increase my appetite? There are still so many things I want to eat.”
“No.”
“Then can you go achieve resonance with one?”
“I haven’t encountered any Extraordinary Ability User with a gluttony-type ability yet.”
“Then remember to tell me next time you meet one. We’ll suck their blood together.”
Yin Zhen couldn’t be bothered to reply to her. Zoe rested against the bench for a little while longer before her attention was drawn to the children’s play area in the mall’s atrium.
A ball pit, a trampoline, a spiral slide, and a plastic castle. There weren’t many children around on a weekday afternoon. Zoe stared at it for a long time, then turned her abnormally bright eyes toward Yin Zhen.
“No.”
“I haven’t even asked yet.”
“That’s for little kids to play in. You’re an adult in her twenties now.”
“Then I’ll take Lucy inside.”
