Chapter 103: Chapter 98: Formidable Enemy

Chaos filled the streets. Stepping out of the prison van, Adeline acutely caught the scent of something amiss.

Although the Guard Team was prepared and mounted a counterattack, the Rebel Army’s advance was still incredibly smooth. The Guard Team’s defensive line crumbled at the first touch; armored vehicles were blown over one after another, and drones were shot down in quick succession.

"This feels like... luring the enemy in deep!"

The moment Adeline realized what was happening, a notification for a private message on the forum chimed.

[Blossoming Prosperity]: Julian saw through you. The prison rescue is a trap within a trap!

Adeline’s pupils shrank abruptly. At some unknown point, an armed hovercar had stationed itself overhead. The door opened, and a figure leapt from thirty meters in the air, plummeting straight toward the ground.

CRASH!

The concrete ground fractured, sending debris flying in all directions.

Victor!

He wasn’t alone. A middle-aged man jumped down after him. The man simply stood there doing absolutely nothing, yet the surrounding air began to grow heavy.

Adeline’s heart clenched. It was Kalan, an S-Class Extraordinary Ability User from the Dracula Family. His ability was Gravity Manipulation; he could arbitrarily increase or decrease the gravity within a hundred-meter radius, maxing out at twenty times the normal gravitational force.

Twenty times. At that magnitude, her bones would be crushed, her muscles torn from her skeleton, and her blood squeezed straight out of her veins.

There was no need to even fight. All Kalan had to do was crank up the gravity, and everyone would be plastered to the ground like flattened bugs.

Adeline immediately used the Mind Beacon to call Trouble. "Trouble, something’s wrong. Take advantage of the chaos and quietly evacuate everyone. Don’t let Victor spot you."

Unfortunately, she was too late!

Victor had already vanished from his spot, moving faster than the naked eye could follow. He headed straight for Trouble in the middle of the crowd.

Before Trouble could even process Adeline’s words, he saw a dark shadow rush his face. He instinctively opened fire.

RAT-TAT-TAT!

Bullets howled alongside flashes of muzzle fire. However, Victor had anticipated Trouble’s movements. With a mere tilt of his head, he dodged the bullets and slammed a punch directly into Trouble’s chest.

Trouble was sent flying, crashing over the wreckage of an armored vehicle. He collapsed into the debris, coughing up blood, entirely unable to get back up.

Seeing this unfold, the closest person, Signal, widened her eyes in shock. Arcs of electricity exploded from her palms and surged toward Victor.

Victor didn’t bother dodging. He allowed the electrical arcs to lash against his body like whips. As if entirely immune to the pain and numbness, he walked right through the wildly dancing electricity, clamped his hand around Signal’s neck, and lifted her completely off the ground.

I Want to Quit charged over, thrusting the dagger in her hand toward his ribs. Victor sidestepped. The dagger only sliced through the hem of his shirt before he raised his foot and kicked her away, sending her crashing through a roadside shop’s display window.

In a single clash lasting less than three seconds, Victor had taken down all three of them: Trouble, Signal, and Quit.

On the other side of the battlefield, Kalan, dressed in a sharp suit, strolled slowly through the epicenter. He looked completely out of place amidst the raging chaos. ℴ

The Guard Team squad leaders who recognized him paled at a single glance. Without a shred of hesitation, they turned and fled, putting all their effort into getting as far away from Kalan as possible.

The next instant, everyone within a hundred-meter radius of Kalan violently collapsed to their knees. Whether they were members of the Rebel Army or soldiers of the Guard Team, there were zero exceptions.

The gravity rapidly climbed. Everyone went from kneeling to sprawling flat on the ground. Their bones and internal organs were mercilessly compressed, and they twitched uncontrollably as they vomited blood.

Drones dropped from the sky like hail. Vehicles groaned in protest, the roofs of armored cars caving in under the oppressive gravity. The blood squeezed from the crushed victims pooled into streams, flowing right to Kalan’s feet. He stood there like a king; before him, everyone had to submit.

"Retreat, fall back!"

Realizing the operation was beyond salvaging, the distant Rebel Army forces quickly organized the surviving fighters to evacuate.

Victor was some distance away from Kalan. Just as he prepared to snap Signal’s neck to make an example of her, the shadow beneath his feet morphed into a spike and thrust upward toward the softest part of his abdomen.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

At the sound of three gunshots, Victor sneered and simply hoisted Signal in front of him as a Shield.

Adeline’s bullets hit Signal’s bulletproof vest, and the shadow piercing failed to take effect. However, Adeline seized the opportunity to teleport right next to Victor. She condensed her spiritual power into a nearly tangible cone and ruthlessly drove it into Victor’s brain.

Victor let out a muffled groan, his brain throbbing with sharp pain.

Adeline swiftly rescued Signal and teleported far away with her. She handed Signal over to Trouble, who had injected some blood source element and recovered slightly. Quit was also just stumbling out of the ruined roadside shop; her mouth was covered in blood, having clearly sustained severe injuries as well.

"You guys go first."

Victor looked at the few of them and asked in a deep, booming voice, "Lucia is also an intruder, right? Why hasn’t she shown up?"

"Want to know? Beg me!"

Adeline scoffed provocatively. Victor’s eyes sharpened. He appeared in front of Adeline as if teleporting and threw a heavy punch.

Adeline had prepared to teleport in advance. Victor’s fist narrowly grazed her shadow and smashed into the armored vehicle behind her.

BOOM!

The entire vehicle was sent flying by Victor’s punch, crashing into a roadside building and exploding with a massive roar.

Adeline continuously teleported, drawing Victor away from Kalan and the main battlefield. Victor pursued her relentlessly. The distance between them grew shorter and shorter, and Adeline’s teleportation frequency gradually failed to keep up with the speed of Victor’s pursuit.

At that moment, gunfire wrapped in electrical arcs shot toward Victor. Moreover, I Want to Quit—her muscles bulging until she looked like a mutated beast—charged at Victor from behind at breakneck speed.

None of the three had abandoned Adeline to escape on their own.

However, Victor’s strength was simply not something they could confront head-on, and Kalan was also walking toward their direction. The four of them were absolutely no match for the enemies.

BANG!

The deafening crack of a sniper rifle ripped through the battlefield from afar. A bullet grazed Victor’s arm and shot toward Kalan in the rear. Kalan’s expression shifted slightly. The warhead stopped half a meter from his chest, then was violently crushed into a flat iron disc and dropped to the ground.

Everyone looked toward the direction of the sniper rifle.

Nan Jiamu stood in the middle of the street three hundred meters away. Her face was as pale as paper, veins throbbing visibly on her forehead. Her heart ached so intensely that every single movement made her tremble, yet she still held the sniper rifle impeccably steady.

A second shot, a third shot, a fourth shot. The bullets struck the exact same spot on the gravity field. The first was crushed, and the second was crushed. The third penetrated, and the fourth slipped entirely through the gap in the gravity field, flying past and grazing Kalan’s face. It slashed a gash across his cheekbone, and bright red blood began to trickle down his cheek.

Taking advantage of the opening, Ye Se, who possessed the Stealth Ability, rushed to the prison van holding Ian, knocked him unconscious, and hoisted him onto his shoulder.

"You guys take Ian and go first! Leave this place to me!"

Seeing Ian being taken away, Victor was about to give chase when a voice came through his earpiece. He halted his steps and cast a deep, meaningful glance at the distant Nan Jiamu. "Kalan, I’ll leave this place to you!"

With that, Victor sprinted madly in the direction of the Saint Group’s laboratory.

Adeline had wanted to say she would stay behind too, but Nan Jiamu didn’t give her the chance.

"Go! I won’t die here so easily. S704 is definitely in the Saint Group’s secret laboratory. Killing her is your primary mission! Leave this guy to me!"
