I Use Illusions to Control the Whole World
Chapter 80: If You Are a God, Then What Am I?
Having roughly sorted out the situation, Su Mu gestured to the bald man, Zhao Yongqiang. Under the influence of hypnosis, Zhao Yongqiang resolutely stepped into the Statue's range.
Zhao Yongqiang's actions instantly drew everyone's attention. They were incredibly fearful of the Statue; seeing someone step into its range, they fought through their pain to stand and immediately backed away.
When Zhao Yongqiang stepped within ten meters of the Statue, a grinding sound echoed—clack, clack, clack...
Stone scraped against stone as the head of the waist-high divine and demonic Statue slowly turned to face Zhao Yongqiang. Its eyes, one black and one white, seemed to come alive, shifting slightly to stare dead at the living man before it.
A terrifying pressure descended, freezing the surrounding space. The sensation was indescribable—like being suddenly plunged ten thousand meters deep into the sea, surrounded by writhing darkness, suffocation, freezing cold, and despair!
Thud!
Under this terrifying pressure, Zhao Yongqiang dropped directly to his knees. His face was deathly pale, and his body trembled uncontrollably, nearing collapse.
Su Mu narrowed his eyes. He had just hypnotized Zhao Yongqiang to rid him of his fear, yet this tide of terror had actually broken through the hypnosis.
"Mortal, speak of the greatest evil you have committed."
A low, sinister voice and a cold, majestic voice echoed simultaneously. They were two completely different tones—an angel and a demon speaking as one. When the Statue spoke, the Transcendents all looked terrified. Not daring to breathe loudly, they hid behind the pillars to watch.
"I..." Zhao Yongqiang trembled even harder, his words stuttering. "I embezzled money from my previous company and framed someone else for it..."
Hum!
Accompanied by a bizarre hum, the Statue slowly fell silent, and the terrifying pressure vanished into thin air.
What followed was Zhao Yongqiang's miserable shriek: "Ahhh!! My leg!"
Screaming, he frantically pulled up his pant leg, only to reveal that the flesh on his right calf had begun to rot.
"He suffered the demon's curse," Tie Feng said in a low voice, a hint of confusion in his tone.
"Among our sins, his embezzlement is considered the lightest. I thought he would get the Angel Curse. I never expected the demon's."
"Who knows? Maybe in the eyes of an angel, embezzlement is a form of betrayal, so it doesn't count as good?"
"Ah!" Suddenly, another miserable shriek echoed. This time, it was Yang Dongqing.
Yang Dongqing clutched his left hand in sheer agony. Three of his fingers were slowly rotting away, while the other two seemed to be burning in an invisible flame, the skin continually charring black.
"Hurry up and answer the Statue's question, or you'll be cursed by both the angel and the demon simultaneously!" Jun Wushang, a fellow member of the Bronze Coffin Company, hastily warned.
Gritting his teeth, Yang Dongqing endured the severe pain and rushed toward the Statue.
Then, the Statue came back to life and looked at Yang Dongqing.
This young man with a body of steel instantly felt a terrifying pressure bearing down on him like a dark mountain. He tried to grit his teeth and endure, but he was defeated in just a few seconds, falling straight to his knees before the Statue.
"Mortal, speak of the greatest evil you have committed."
It was the same question.
But Yang Dongqing was in a bind, unsure of which deed was the most evil. He wanted to say murder, having killed quite a few members of the Poisonous Snake Gang, but he didn't feel that was evil. Su Mu was the one who had committed the first wrong by taking Jasmine away, and the people of the Poisonous Snake Gang were all scum who deserved to die.
After thinking for a moment, Yang Dongqing struggled to raise his head and said, "Robbery. I stole 50,000 cash."
Hum!
The bizarre hum rang out.
Before Yang Dongqing's eyes, the Statue began to change. The sculpture, originally half-divine and half-demonic, rapidly turned pitch-black, completely transforming into a hideous demon.
At the same time, the burn marks on his hand quickly disappeared, replaced by the rotting of his entire palm.
"The demon again?!" Jun Wushang exclaimed. "This is ridiculous. Stealing 50,000 makes you a demon? This woman wiped out her enemy's entire family for revenge, not even sparing the children, yet she got the Angel Curse."
The woman in question turned cold and sneered. "A life for a life is the natural order of things. So what if I took revenge? Why don't you look at yourself? The greatest evil you ever committed was getting a foot massage without paying, and you were still judged as a demon. How do you have the nerve to talk about others?"
Jun Wushang immediately blushed, clearly embarrassed at having his shameful past exposed.
"I just forgot to bring money!"
Tie Feng's gaze moved across the group before he said in a deep voice, "Something is definitely wrong. Is the standard of judgment really good and evil? Is the sin of robbery truly greater than murder?"
"Could it be because Jun Wushang is a Daoist priest? His actions equate to violating the Dao he believes in, so it has nothing to do with the severity of the act, but is rather counted as betrayal?" a short, scrawny man speculated.
"It's possible." Tie Feng couldn't figure it out either and could only reluctantly accept this explanation.
At this moment, everyone's gaze gathered on the final person—Su Mu.
Someone voiced their doubt. "He hasn't answered the question for so long. Why hasn't he suffered the god and demon curse yet?"
The crowd realized this issue as well. Su Mu and Yang Dongqing had stepped up at the same time. Logically, the two of them should have suffered the dual curse simultaneously, but only Yang Dongqing had been cursed just now. Su Mu looked completely unharmed.
"He must have already been cursed. The wounds are probably just hidden by his clothes. I bet his pain tolerance is just really high, which is why he isn't showing it."
Hearing the crowd's discussion, Su Mu smiled faintly without explaining. He truly hadn't been cursed. Earlier, he had faintly felt two bizarre forces invading his body, but they had been blocked by his Immaculate Heart.
The passive effect of the Immaculate Heart was a strong resistance to all sorts of filthy and negative influences.
However, he still chose to walk toward the Statue, because he could feel that as time passed, those two bizarre forces were growing stronger. It wouldn't be long before they broke through the upper limit of what the Immaculate Heart could withstand.
Not wanting to be struck by both curses, his only option was to answer the Statue's question.
Clack, clack, clack...
As Su Mu stepped closer, the Statue's head began to turn. The terrifying pressure descended once again, and that feeling of fear and despair—like plummeting ten thousand meters deep into the sea—surged in his heart. The sensation hadn't been too obvious from a distance, but now that he was being stared at by the Statue, it felt exceptionally intense.
It was as if a true god and demon stood before him, their towering bodies piercing the heavens, rivaling the size of planets. That intense sense of oppression was enough to suffocate anyone.
However, just when everyone thought Su Mu would crumble to his knees like they had, they realized he was smiling. He smiled breezily, even carrying a hint of contempt.
His posture was straight as a pine, his gaze calm and peaceful, as if he didn't feel the pressure of the god and demon at all.
Su Mu smiled gently. His lips parted as he soundlessly asked the Statue, "If you are a God, then what am I?"
The Statue fell into silence, like a lifeless object.
