I Use Illusions to Control the Whole World
Chapter 348: I Am God!
"A Blasphemer like you naturally wouldn't understand the greatness of the gods, but that doesn't matter. You will soon. Once five o'clock arrives, my wish will take effect. Even if you kill me now, it will be useless."
"I'm curious. Reduced to a cripple, what kind of wish can you possibly make? When I let you make your wish earlier, it consumed so many treasures because you secretly intercepted a portion of them, didn't you?"
"I just don't understand—even if you did intercept them, what could you possibly do?" Su Mu didn't believe that relying on that tiny bit of treasure could kill him, especially not when he possessed the Divinity of the Five Gods.
"Time is up," the Pope said calmly.
As he spoke, the nothingness shrouding the city began to dissipate—a sign that the time loop had been broken.
Su Mu paid it no mind. Instead, he stared at the Pope with keen interest, wanting to see just how far the man could go. He believed the Pope's claim that killing him now would be useless; the final wish of a figure of this caliber would never be so easily broken.
Under his expectant gaze, the Pope slowly closed his eyes, and then...
Thud!
The Pope collapsed. He fell stiffly to the ground, utterly devoid of life.
At the same time, Su Mu felt as if something had been forcibly shoved into his soul—as though a consciousness had barged in."Is this your final resort? Possessing me?" A look of disappointment surfaced on his face; he was highly dissatisfied with this surprise.
Reduced to a cripple, the Pope's attempt to possess him—even with the help of Supreme Heaven—was pure wishful thinking.
The Divinity of the Five Gods was no mere decoration. Using Supreme Heaven to shatter it in order to possess him would be impossible even if the Pope sacrificed this entire city, let alone by secretly intercepting a handful of treasures.
"No, I am not possessing you. I am making you become me," the Pope's calm voice echoed in Su Mu's mind.
Su Mu frowned slightly. He quickly sensed that something was wrong—the Divinity of the Five Gods in his soul hadn't reacted at all. Not only that, but his own spiritual power remained completely dormant.
It was as if he hadn't been invaded at all!
"This isn't possession?"
"I know very well that in my current state, I have absolutely no way of possessing you. My soul is like a lamp drained of oil. I couldn't even possess an ordinary person, let alone you.
"I am already a dying man. Even if the Shadow Divine Power were broken, I wouldn't live much longer. The Pope can die! But... faith cannot!!"
The Pope's weak voice suddenly surged with passion, like a dying man's final flash of vitality.
"The wish I made was to instill all of my memories into you. I have lived for 123 years, and I have worshipped the Primal Angel for 120 years. Young man, when you possess my 123 years of memories, you... will become me!!
"My death is unimportant. What matters is that this world must have a Pope who worships the Primal Angel!!
"The Pope can be me, but it doesn't have to be me."
"Hahaha..." Feeling the memories constantly surging into his mind, Su Mu burst into unstoppable, maniacal laughter, so much so that a sickly flush appeared on his pale face.
"This world... truly has countless heroes!! Hahaha..."
The Pope's schemes earned his praise, and the Pope's spirit filled him with awe.
This Primal Pope had ultimately sacrificed everything just to ensure his faith would not be extinguished.
Just as the Pope had said, 123 years of memories were enough to change a person.
Memories determined who you were. For example, if a twenty-year-old transmigrated back into their ten-year-old body, was that person ten years old or twenty?
Or to give a simpler example: if a twenty-year-old suddenly transmigrated to the cultivation world, spent a century becoming an Immortal Venerable, and then returned to find only three days had passed, would the returned Immortal Venerable share the same mindset as before? Would their way of handling worldly affairs be the same?
If a mere three days apart warranted seeing someone in a new light, how much more so a century?
Possessing a century of the Pope's memories was equivalent to Su Mu living a hundred years as the Pope, experiencing his century-long life firsthand.
If Su Mu truly were a twenty-year-old youth, being overwritten by a century of memories might actually have changed him. Unfortunately... he wasn't.
The Pope's memories continuously merged with Su Mu. His own remaining consciousness was rapidly dissipating, but he didn't care. His faith would be reborn in another form.
Wait!
Why were there so many memories!?
Twenty years, thirty years, forty years... a hundred years!
There were actually more after that??
Why did he also have over a hundred years of memories!?
The Pope was shocked. He prided himself on his keen eye and was absolutely certain he hadn't misjudged Su Mu's age. The boy definitely wasn't some old monster who had regained his youth; he was just a twenty-year-old young man. So where did these memories come from?
"This... this is impossible!? Why do you also have a century of memories?" the Pope asked in disbelief.
"Hahaha..." Su Mu laughed maniacally. "I just enjoy dreaming in my spare time."
"Dreaming?" The Pope didn't understand, but he was profoundly shaken.
"So what if you also possess over a hundred years of memories? My 120 years of devout faith in the Primal Angel will eventually overwrite all of your memories! I am the most devout believer of the gods; no one can defeat my faith!"
"Oh, really?" A vicious sneer curled on Su Mu's lips. "Then what about a god?"
The Pope was stunned, not understanding what he meant.
He only heard Su Mu continue, "You've merely been a believer of the gods for a little over a century, but I... I have been a God for over a full century!!"
In that instant, a blinding crystal-blue light burst from his eyes. The madness hidden deep within his gaze could not be concealed, not even by the Tinted Glasses.
"Today, I'll let you experience what it feels like to be a God!
"Having faith in a God? Heh... That's only because you aren't a God yourself!!"
The memories of Su Mu being an omnipotent God in his dreams for over a century frantically poured into the Pope's consciousness.
As their memories continuously fused, the Pope's consciousness instantly blurred. In a trance, he saw the ultimate bliss of life; he tasted all the delicacies of the world, beheld all of its beauties, waking to grasp the power of the world, and sleeping drunk on the laps of beauties.
Sometimes he was a supreme Immortal Emperor seated atop the nine heavens; at other times, he was a lawless, world-destroying demon god. The universe and all its living beings were bound to his every whim, allowing him to control their life and death at will.
Every desire humanity could possibly imagine was satisfied in this moment.
Gradually, the Pope grew bewildered. He suddenly couldn't understand why he needed to worship a god. Clearly, I am God!
Amid this bewilderment, his consciousness completely dissipated.
A long while later, the crystal-blue light in Su Mu's eyes slowly faded. With a calm expression, he pushed up his Tinted Glasses, once again concealing his profound gaze.
A cold, contemptuous curve hooked the corners of his mouth. "Heh... Only mortals worship gods. As for me... I am God!"
At this moment, the smiling face carved onto the Pride Mask seemed to solidify upon his face.
