I Use Illusions to Control the Whole World
Chapter 344: God, You've Finally Come to Save Me!
Su Mu smiled faintly. "In that case, I'll accept it."
Supreme Heaven remained on his hand; he hadn't taken it off.
The Pope gave an indifferent nod. "This treasure is miraculous indeed, but it's useless. Even if I gave it to you, you wouldn't be able to use it. It is bound by bloodline. Only my current body can wield it."
Su Mu surged his mental energy into Supreme Heaven to test it. Sure enough... he really couldn't use it!
It felt as though Supreme Heaven inherently belonged to him, yet someone had slapped a combination lock onto it. Not even he could bypass that lock to use it directly.
"Wait!" The Pope seemed to realize something. He jerked his head up, staring dead at Su Mu. "Who exactly are you? Why do you know about Supreme Heaven? Only the Blasphemer and I know of its existence. Could you be..."
The warmth on Su Mu's face slowly faded, replaced by cold detachment—the indifference of a god looking down upon the mortal world.
He slowly stood up, gazing down at the trembling Pope. "God is omniscient."
"What?" The Pope shuddered.
"You were right about one thing. God does not abandon His believers. As long as you believe in the Primal Angel, His holy radiance will shine upon you even in the Abyss."Before his voice even faded, the skin between Su Mu's eyebrows tore open, revealing a Silver Vertical Pupil brimming with the radiance of Divinity.
Its mercury-like light bathed the Pope. Completely robbed of speech, he trembled violently with excitement.
"I... God... this..."
He shivered, unable to form a complete sentence. His eyes turned red in an instant. Hot tears welled from his sunken sockets and rolled down his cheeks, plowing clear tracks through the grime to reveal the pale skin beneath.
Thud!
The Pope dropped to his knees and kowtowed in a frenzy of agitation. "God!! You have finally come to save Your devout child!!"
Thud, thud, thud...
He repeatedly smashed his head against the hard ground. Even when his forehead became a bloody, mangled mess, he didn't care in the slightest; it was as if this were the only way to express the devotion and ecstasy in his heart.
"Rise," Su Mu said coolly.
Only then did the Pope stop kowtowing. Frail as a dying old man, he struggled to climb back to his feet.
"Are... are you the divine envoy sent by the Primal Angel to save me?"
Su Mu nodded.
The Pope grew even more ecstatic. He wailed like a child, waving his arms in a frenzy of joy. "I knew it! I knew it! God would never forget His people!"
Too lazy to watch the man's crazed fit, Su Mu interrupted. "I have come under God's decree to save you. Do not waste time. Tell me everything you know about this dream."
"Yes, yes, Lord Envoy." The Pope wiped his tears without a shred of doubt. God was omniscient, but that didn't mean a descended envoy had to be.
He quickly spoke with deep reverence. "This dream wasn't originally like this. Its source of nightmare is a nightmare monster hiding in the mirror, but that monster does not possess the power to reset time.
"The reason the dream has been looping constantly is because I used Supreme Heaven!
"Back then, after the Blasphemer and I swapped bodies, I was heavily injured and on the verge of death. On top of that, the Blasphemer's body had been eroded by the Shadow God's power, leaving me powerless to reverse the situation.
"I fell to the bottom of the Abyss and saw endless nightmare monsters. I thought I was doomed to die, but unexpectedly, because of the Shadow Divine Power, those nightmare monsters didn't dare approach me at all.
"I knew this was the unseen will of God protecting me. I refused to just die like that, so I stood back up and walked through the Abyss, eventually finding this dream."
"Did you specifically choose this dream?"
The Pope nodded. "That's right. This dream is much smaller and weaker than the others, making it the easiest to alter.
"After I arrived here, the crisis still wasn't averted because the Shadow Divine Power kept eroding my body. It wouldn't be long before I died completely, but I couldn't die!
"The Blasphemer is wearing my skin and commanding the Primal Divine Cult in the outside world. This is a desecration of God! I absolutely will not allow it!"
The Pope's expression suddenly turned agitated. In his eyes, his own death didn't matter, but God absolutely could not be desecrated because of him.
"Because of the body swap, I not only possessed Supreme Heaven but also gained the qualifications to use it. Although there was nothing left in the Blasphemer's body to sacrifice to Supreme Heaven, I still had my soul! My soul still contained the Divinity bestowed by the Primal Angel!
"I continuously sacrificed my soul's power to Supreme Heaven to erase the Shadow Divine Power, but my strength was simply too weak. Even making a wish couldn't completely eradicate the Shadow Divine Power; it only weakened a portion of it. Therefore, I changed my approach. I wished to freeze time in this dream, keeping it forever trapped on this single day.
"For this, I paid with everything I had, and time formed a closed loop!
"When five o'clock arrives, the Shadow Divine Power erupts, and I am killed, perishing along with the entire city. Then time resets, returning to the very beginning and looping endlessly. Over these past five years, I have suffered the torment of the Shadow Divine Power every single moment, constantly being killed and then resurrected.
"I endured it all, just to wait for the radiant light of the Primal Angel to shine upon me!"
The Pope raised his hands high, his expression fanatical. For a fleeting moment, a layer of holy light seemed to shroud his filthy body.
Brilliant!
Su Mu marveled inwardly. He liked the Pope's story—a devout zealot actually going to such lengths for his faith.
The Pope could have simply died, but he didn't. Instead, he chose the cruelest way to live: a never-ending cycle of reincarnation and endless torture, all just to wait for God's salvation.
This wait was far too illusory; he might never see it come to pass even if he waited for all eternity. Yet, he still made that choice, even if the price was eternal cycles and suffering.
"Lord Envoy, the reason we cannot leave this dream is because time has been frozen into a closed circle. If we want to get out, the only way is to break this circle, and the method to break it is..."
Boom!!!
The Shadow Divine Power erupted, returning everything to nothingness.
Standing at the intersection once again, Su Mu felt a bit helpless. A thirty-minute window was truly troublesome. It was also remarkable that the Pope had endured five years of repetition and agony here without going mad. A zealot's willpower far exceeded ordinary imagination.
At this moment, he looked down at his palm and found that Supreme Heaven was indeed gone.
He went back to the garbage dump and found the Pope.
The Pope was already waiting respectfully in place. This time, he had even washed up and dressed. He was wearing a suit stripped from someone unknown, and the grime on his face had been completely scrubbed clean.
Sporting this brand-new look, the Pope at this moment truly resembled the king who had once ruled the world—the First Red King.
That kingly majesty seemed to have long been etched into his genes. Even though he was now reduced to a cripple sitting in a garbage dump, an aura of authority that no one could ignore still surged from him.
His appearance was exceedingly handsome. Although he was in his middle age, that mature masculine charm had only deepened, like fine wine aged in a cellar—mellow and captivating.
For King Chi to have her current beauty, at least half of the credit had to go to her father.
