Chapter 306: Chapter 261: Mo Pengchen’s Love Letter

After burying the skeleton, Yu Changsheng wasn’t in a hurry. His interest piqued, he continued along Si Jian Cliff.

Soon, lines of writing came into view, one after another. They were quite interesting.

"Master, you once asked me why I cultivated. I used to say it was for Changsheng, but I was actually lying to you."

"In truth, all I ever wanted was to be your entire world. But I am Zhang San, I am Li Si—just another face in the crowd, the most unremarkable among your thousands of gifted disciples."

"But this desire isn’t a joke. It is the distant shore I yearn for but can never reach, the poem I can touch but never possess. It is my romance, my obsession, everything worthwhile and not on my journey. It is a brave yet failed page on my tumultuous path of the Dao..."

"But in truth, none of that is important. What’s important is..."

Yu Changsheng swallowed, his gaze drifting further down. At the very bottom, a line of small text served as a postscript.

"What’s important is... having you is enough."

......

"Hiss... Intense."

Yu Changsheng sucked in a sharp breath, shaking his head with a wry smile. He felt his scalp tingle.

"A perfectly good Si Jian Cliff, and you’ve all turned it into a confession wall."

Yu Changsheng muttered to himself. He didn’t find it boring, however, and continued onward, examining the writings with great interest. Soon, one particular passage caught his eye.

"Wind over shifting sands, clouds gathering and scattering... In the great torrent of time, who can truly have a fated encounter with another..."

"I used to be so envious of those who could hold hands and laugh freely in the sunlight. Unlike me. I could only be a rat in the shadows, watching you from afar."

"In this vast, fleeting world, how fortunate I was to have met you. With mountains and rivers separating us, how unfortunate I was to have met you. The autumn river meets the lone goose, the mulberry tree meets the evening glow, and I... I met you."

"It was a surging river, uncontrollable from the very start. It was a desert sunset, an ending where words cease but the meaning lingers on. I don’t know how long this feeling can last, but in this moment, I just want to hold your hand."

"I want to hold your hand, to walk together down a path of autumn leaves. From dawn to dusk, from start to finish... even if my path never again crosses yours for the rest of your life..."

...

"Sometimes, I wish this were all a fleeting dream. Like a flower that never bears fruit, like snow that never sees the sun. If I had never met you, there would have been no beginning, and no end to speak of."

"If it were possible, I would want to become you... to love what you love, to cherish what you cherish, to feel your joys and sorrows, and to walk the paths you’ve trod..."

"But life isn’t filled with so many possibilities..."

...

"You once told me that as long as one has the will, it’s never too late. But starting over takes courage, and making a move with no regrets takes conviction. And you... you are precisely the one thing I can never attain in this life."

...

"I cannot wait for a time of Rising Prosperity, for the flowers to bloom under a full moon, or for an ending that includes you. But I wish you a future filled with beauty and a smooth path for all your days. As for me... I only want to hold your hand, forever."

......

Unlike the others, this piece was a densely packed, sprawling love letter of over a thousand characters, venting the writer’s emotions. An endless, yearning love could be felt between the lines, so much so that Yu Changsheng found himself in a daze.

"This is really well written."

Yu Changsheng remarked with a sigh, his gaze traveling further down. At the very bottom, there was a signature.

"Mo Pengchen, to Lu..."

Yu Changsheng froze. He blinked, then took a sharp breath, staring at the signature in disbelief.

’It was actually written by Mo Pengchen? And who is it for?’

"Tsk, tsk. Unbelievable," Yu Changsheng clicked his tongue in wonder. "Such delicate prose. I never would have expected this from him."

"Insane!"

Yu Changsheng took a deep breath and gave a mischievous grin. Shaking his head, he looked at the love letter, thought for a moment, and then took out a Sealing Jade Tube. He formed a hand seal and imprinted the scene to preserve it.

’Still, to be able to carve so many words so fluidly on this cliff face, and without a single one being crooked... that really shows some skill.’

Yu Changsheng muttered to himself. After double-checking who Mo Pengchen had written it to, his expression grew strange, and he felt a bit awkward.

Si Jian Cliff had actually been created by a single sword strike from some powerful entity, which was why its face was so smooth. Sword marks from that strike remained even now, resonating with Sword Intent. To be able to carve words on such a surface was, in itself, a display of great power.

’Oh well, who cares. The Peak Master is certainly an interesting person.’

Yu Changsheng shook his head and smiled. After a small chuckle, he continued on his way.

Not all the carvings on Si Jian Cliff were lengthy. Some were concise, yet held infinite meaning.

"In this fleeting life, we cannot be like intertwined branches. For every inch of knowing you, there is an inch of longing..."

Yu Changsheng nodded, silently praising the words. ’Not bad. Very elegant. A true wordsmith from my Beast Taming Peak.’

He walked on for a while, soon passing the halfway point of Si Jian Cliff. He only stopped when a massive sword mark appeared in the center of the cliff face, his brow furrowing.

’This sword mark...’

The sword mark was a massive gouge on the face of Si Jian Cliff. Sword Intent roared from within it, and the hum of a blade was unending, causing the very void to tremble. Phantom Sword Qi coalesced into a raging storm, tearing at the space around it. Cracks spiderwebbed out, emitting a terrifying cutting force.

Yu Changsheng’s brow twitched as he stared at the sword mark, his heart pounding with fear. He pulled back his Divine Sense, took a deep breath, and rubbed the bridge of his nose, overcome with a flood of emotions and thoughts:

’To think a place like this exists within the Illusion Mist Beast Valley. Who could have unleashed such a strike, for its power to linger here for so long?’

In the entire stone forest, the Sword Intent was at its absolute peak right here. For a Sword Cultivator, this place was a rare find. By lingering here, one might achieve great comprehension. It was truly a precious, hallowed ground.
