I Summon Female Knights
Chapter 73: The Unseen Crossroads
The small brass bell above the coffee shop door fell silent, leaving only the soft hum of an old refrigeration unit and the gentle patter of rain against the fogged windowpanes.
Elena stood frozen just inside the entrance, her right hand resting instinctively near the concealed sidearm beneath her dark coat.
Her mind, honed by years of elite Bureau reconnaissance and tactical field evaluation, screamed at her that something in this quiet, ordinary room was profoundly off. The small cafe was utterly unremarkable, with wooden tables, a vintage espresso machine behind a wooden counter, and a quiet barista wiping down mugs in the back, yet the moment her eyes met the man seated in the corner booth, the air in her lungs felt heavy, almost pressurized.
He sat alone in the booth, his broad frame making the small wooden chair look almost delicate by comparison. But it was his eyes that locked her in place- luminous, razor-sharp silver eyes that held no warmth, no hesitation, and no trace of civilian panic.
Elena slowly took a breath, forcing her posture to remain casual as she stepped deeper into the shop. Her left wrist vibrated faintly against her sleeve, a silent haptic ping from her concealed Bureau tactical scanner.
She cast a covert glance at her optical visor overlay.

Zero signature, Elena thought, her stomach tightening into a hard knot.
Her scanner evaluated him as a completely unawakened civilian, a normal human with no spatial core, no elemental affinity, and no combat mana, but every survival instinct she possessed told her that the digital reading on her wrist was an illusion.
She walked over to the counter, ordered a black coffee from the elderly barista without breaking stride, and then casually turned, carrying her ceramic mug toward the table across from the tall stranger.
"Mind if I sit?" Elena asked, her voice remaining steady, crisp, and professional. "The rest of the shop is a bit cramped."
Raphael set his porcelain cup down onto the small saucer with a quiet, deliberate clink. His eyes tracked her movements with calm, unblinking detachment. His Sovereign’s Veil remained active at maximum density, compressing his presence into an untouchable vault below his skin.
"Be my guest, Officer," Raphael replied, his deep voice carrying a quiet, resonant gravity that echoed softly in the small booth.
Elena sat down across from him, placing her coffee on the wooden table between them. She kept her posture relaxed, but her eyes carefully observed the way he held himself. His broad shoulders were squared, his long fingers rested lightly on the table with absolute, relaxed precision, and there was zero nervous tension in his posture... no fidgeting, no darting eyes, no physiological signs of intimidation despite her Bureau badge visible at her lapel.
"You’re far from the Sector 1 precinct," Elena remarked, taking a small sip of her coffee while keeping her eyes locked on his face. "Bureau units don’t usually patrol Sector 9’s coffee shops unless there’s an ongoing investigation."
"Sector 9 is a public district, Officer," Raphael said smoothly, a faint, unreadable expression touching the corner of his lips. "Even unawakened citizens are allowed to enjoy a hot drink away from the rain."
"Unawakened," Elena repeated quietly, leaning slightly forward, resting her forearms on the table. "That’s an interesting word. My scanner says your mana signature is absolute zero. In fact, it’s so low it almost looks artificial- like a dead zone on a sensor grid."
Raphael didn’t break eye contact. "Scanners are machines, Officer. Machines only read what they are programmed to see. Perhaps your Bureau equipment is outdated."
Elena’s blue eyes narrowed slightly. The subtle cadence of his voice, the utter lack of fear or defensive posture, was eerily familiar. It matched the exact tone of the voice that had spoken to her in the darkness of the Sector 3 overpass, right before an S-tier-sized B-Rank apex construct was sliced into ash in under three seconds.
"I spent the morning in Subterranean Vault ALT-5 in Sector 1," Elena said, her voice dropping to a low whisper that didn’t carry past their booth. "Two hundred and fifty million credits in bearer chips and twelve tons of refined adamantine vanished from a sealed vault in under five minutes. Zero forced entry. Zero mana residual. And the rogue assassin team hired by Vanguard Coalition was found dead in a warehouse three blocks from here."
"A tragic week for corporate investors," Raphael noted calmly, taking another slow sip of his dark coffee. "Jiston’s underground has always been unstable."
"The man who cleared that vault left a message for Captain Vale," Elena continued, staring directly into his silver eyes, searching for even the smallest twitch or pupil dilation. "He told us that if the Bureau keeps letting corporate boards dictate field deployments, Sector 3 won’t be the last perimeter we lose."
Raphael set his cup down, leaning back slightly in the wooden booth. The shadows under his coat seemed to stretch slightly, darkening the corner of the shop.
"Whoever he is," Raphael spoke softly, his deep baritone carrying an icy, irrefutable weight, "it sounds like he gave your Director sound advice. Captain Vale is a capable commander. It’s a pity he spends his energy chasing ghosts in the rain while corporate executives drain his budget."
Elena felt a cold shiver run down her spine. The resemblance was undeniable. The imposing stature, the absolute authority in his voice, the silver eyes that felt as deep and ancient as the void itself... this man sitting before her in a cheap Sector 9 cafe was the Unknown Wanderer.
Yet, as she slid her hand beneath her coat to touch her tactical badge, her mind raced through the terrifying reality of her situation.
If she tried to detain him here, her suit’s scanner couldn’t prove a thing. Her scanner registered him as a civilian with zero signature. If she pulled a weapon, there were zero grounds for arrest, zero physical evidence linking him to Vault ALT-5, and if a fight broke out in this small cafe... she knew with absolute certainty that she wouldn’t survive the first second.
He wasn’t trapped in this coffee shop with her. She was sitting at a table with an apex entity who had effortlessly dismantled a B-Tier Ironwood Sentinel with his bare hands, when she was supposedly an A-Tier awakened.
Raphael reached into his dark coat, and for a fraction of a second, Elena’s breath hitched, her hand tightening on her sidearm, but he only pulled out a small silver coin, placing it smoothly on the table beside his empty coffee cup to cover his tab.
He stood up, his massive frame towering over the table, casting a long, dark shadow over Elena. He pulled his hood over his messy dark hair, shading his carved features in absolute darkness, leaving only the cold silver luminescence of his eyes visible beneath the brow.
"Enjoy your coffee, Officer Elena," Raphael said quietly, his voice a smooth, icy whisper as he stepped past her booth toward the door. "Jiston is going to get much louder in the coming days. You should make sure your strike team stays behind the heavy artillery. And stop holding yourself back... You are seriously growing weak by the day."
The brass bell chimed softly above the door as Raphael stepped out into the rain.
Elena sat motionless at the table for a long, heavy minute, her breathing ragged, her pulse hammering against her ribs. She turned her head toward the fogged window, watching through the rain as the towering, hooded silhouette melted effortlessly into the foggy alleyways of Sector 9, vanishing completely from sight as if he had stepped straight through the fabric of the world.
...
Ten minutes later, inside the subterranean throne room of The Iron Spire, the spatial doorway rippled with silvery-violet light.
Raphael stepped through the Waypoint Gate, pulling back his dark hood as he stepped onto the polished black marble floor of his citadel.
Vanessa stood waiting near the central dais, her dark relic-staff anchored against the stone, her violet eyes reflecting massive translucent holographic screens floating across the upper vaulted arches. Surrounding the lower dais were the newly acquired crates of refined adamantine, B-tier cores, and liquid-mana pressure canisters harvested from Vanguard’s vault.
"Welcome back, Sovereign," Vanessa bowed deeply, her dark silk robes sweeping softly across the marble. "The quantum server array has successfully laundered the two hundred and fifty million bearer credits through off-grid global exchanges. Our treasury reserves are completely saturated."
"Good," Raphael said, walking up the grand marble staircase to take his seat upon the dark obsidian throne. He rested his forearm on the carved armrest, looking out over the expanding domain where The Sentinel Gardens floated gracefully in the violet expanse.
"Did the Bureau officer prove problematic?" Vanessa asked, raising her staff slightly.
"She suspects the truth, but she lacks the power and evidence to act," Raphael replied, a cold, satisfied smile touching his lips. "She will report her suspicions to Vale, and Vale will realize that their system’s diagnostic machines are completely useless against us."
Suddenly, every floating interface in the grand hall flared a brilliant, commanding gold.
[GLOBAL SYSTEM ANNOUNCEMENT!]
[Event: Multi-Sector Dimensional Convergence Initiated!]
[Global Status: Continental S-Rank Rift Alignment Detected (Code Apex)!]
[Domain Status: The Iron Spire]
[Authority Level: UNTOUCHABLE]
---
Raphael leaned back against his throne, his silver eyes reflecting the glowing gold system text scrolling across the vault. It had gone through some upgrades.
The corporate shadow war in Jiston was over before it had even begun. Vanguard Coalition was bankrupt, Apex Guild was being audited, the Bureau was chasing ghosts, and The Iron Spire held an untouchable treasury and an impenetrable defense matrix.
The continental rift alignment was arriving, and the world was finally ready for a true Sovereign.
"Vanessa," Raphael spoke, his deep baritone ringing with royal, unshakeable authority through the gothic arches of his keep.
"I am here, Sovereign," she bowed.
"Prepare the citadel," Raphael commanded, his silver eyes flashing with dark, absolute ambition. "The age of human guilds is ending. It’s time to claim the rest of this continent."
