Chapter 684: Chapter 421: Fierce Battle, Fear Spreads, Scattering and Fleeing

TAP, TAP, TAP...

Following Zhang Di’s cry for help, a flurry of hurried footsteps echoed.

Lin Li was just about to attack when he heard the footsteps. He immediately abandoned his assault on Zhang Di, twisted his body, and threw a fierce kick behind him.

BAM.

A fist swung from behind Lin Li, colliding with his foot. The impact produced a dull thud, and a violent shockwave blasted outward in all directions.

Seeing his companion jump in to help, Zhang Di immediately raised his right hand, pressed his index and middle fingers together, and pointed them sharply at Lin Li.

"Go."

Two black chains, each over half a meter long and as thick as a finger, had been embedded in the ground like javelins. They shot up from the earth, flying toward Lin Li as fast as a gale.

WHOOSH.

WHOOSH.

The black chains tore through the air, one aimed at Lin Li’s head and the other at his chest.

Faced with an attack from the enemy’s Superpower, Lin Li first sidestepped, dodging the black chain aimed at his head. His right hand then shot out like lightning and seized it. With a flick of his wrist, he used the captured chain to swat away the one targeting his chest.

CLANG.

The knocked-away black chain fell to the ground, the faint Spiritual Light flickering on its surface dimming considerably.

When Zhang Di saw Lin Li catch one of his black chains and knock the other one away, his face showed no disappointment. Instead, a delighted smile spread across his lips.

"Zhang Di, trap him, quickly!" Wu Xiong shouted.

"Grow..." Zhang Di muttered, holding his joined fingers vertically before his lips.

The moment the word left his lips, the Spiritual Energy Wave around his body surged violently. Then, the black chain in the distant Lin Li’s hand underwent a strange transformation—its length began to increase rapidly.

"Eh?!!!" Lin Li watched as the black chain in his hand lengthened at a speed visible to the naked eye, a look of astonishment on his face.

’It’s obvious this is the enemy’s Superpower at work.’

Just as Lin Li was about to throw away the transforming black chain, he found he couldn’t let go.

The half-meter-long black chain had shot out to a meter and a half in length and was now coiled around his arm.

"Keep binding his legs, restrict his movement..." Wu Xiong shouted as he charged toward Lin Li, seeing his companion’s success.

Even without Wu Xiong’s reminder, Zhang Di was already doing just that. He mobilized his Spiritual Energy, pushing it to its limits. The black chain wrapped around Lin Li’s arm lengthened rapidly, coiling tighter and tighter around his body.

"I’m not a mummy, is it really necessary to wrap me up like this?" Lin Li said, looking down at the black chains coiled around his body, his face devoid of panic.

Wu Xiong closed in on Lin Li, raised his right hand, and clenched it into a fist. A faint golden Spiritual Light bloomed on his knuckles, while a cyan stream of air formed a barrier over its surface.

"Hah!"

Accompanied by Wu Xiong’s resounding roar, he unleashed an earth-shattering punch.

Lin Li, wrapped up like a mummy in the black chains, was completely immobilized. He naturally had no way to dodge Wu Xiong’s powered-up punch. And so...

SPLAT.

His head exploded.

Although Wu Xiong’s earth-shattering punch had blown Lin Li’s head apart, there was no joy on his face. Instead, his expression was grave.

Scattered flames fell to the ground. Lin Li’s head had been destroyed while his body was in a state of Elementalization, but this posed no threat to his life.

The black chains could bind a person tightly and restrict their movements, but only on the condition that the person being controlled was corporeal.

Lin Li’s Elementalized body was not corporeal and thus fell outside the chains’ control. As a result, the black chains instantly lost their target and fell to the ground.

"Return." Zhang Di commanded, his expression grim as he watched the masked assailant’s Elementalized body. He manipulated his black chains, recalling them to his side.

CLATTER...

The two black chains shot up and returned to their master’s side, circling him, ready to strike again at any moment.

The flames scattered on the ground flickered without any sign of going out. As an invisible ripple emanated from Lin Li’s Flame Body, all the flickering flames on the ground rose up and flew back toward the main body.

In an instant, the clusters of fire fused back together, and his destroyed head reformed as if it had never been damaged.

He deactivated his Elemental Body. The flames dissipated, and Lin Li’s body returned to normal. He stretched his neck and muttered to himself.

’Even though I don’t feel pain in my Elemental Body state, no matter the injury, getting my head blown off still feels a bit... off.’

Wu Xiong returned to his companion’s side. He watched the masked assailant return to his original form with a grim expression and said to his partner,

"We knew he had the ability to Elementalize his body and we prepared for it, but seeing him use it in person... this is more troublesome than I thought!"

Zhang Di, his expression just as serious, nodded. "To defeat a Cultivator who has awakened this kind of ability, our only option is to exhaust his Spiritual Energy. You take the lead on offense, and I’ll support you by tying him down."

"Right." Wu Xiong nodded.

Just as Wu Xiong and Zhang Di were discussing their battle plan, Lin Li, who was stretching his neck in the distance, shifted his gaze toward Fang Jingtang, who had retreated to a safe area.

He had infiltrated the Red Blood Gang’s headquarters this time specifically to eliminate Fang Jingtang. Despite the fierce battle he had just been through, his objective hadn’t changed in the slightest.
