Chapter 676: Chapter 417: Summer Isn’t Over Yet! Has the Commotion Started Already?

"Little White, Little Black, are you hungry? Should I go home and get you something to eat?"

The Little White Cat and the Little Black Cat had caught and eaten several plump grasshoppers while they were out, so they weren’t hungry. They shook their heads.

"Meow... Zhou Tongtong, didn’t you tell us this morning that you had a strange dream about us? What was it all about?" the Little White Cat asked, looking up at Zhou Tongtong curiously.

"I’d almost forgotten about that." After a long day at school, Zhou Tongtong had put the dream about the Little Black Cat and the Little White Cat out of her mind. Hearing the Little White Cat’s reminder, she immediately recalled it.

Cupping her fair, rosy cheeks in her little hands, Zhou Tongtong carefully recalled the scene from the dream she’d had while napping on the sofa just before dinner yesterday evening.

"In my dream, I saw you and Little Black fighting a Big Striped Cat in the park—one that was way bigger than you. You couldn’t beat that Big Striped Cat.

Just as you were about to get beaten up, Little Black suddenly transformed! He became huge and scared off the Big Striped Cat that was bullying you."

Hearing Zhou Tongtong’s words, the Little White Cat and the Little Black Cat froze for a moment. Having experienced it themselves, they knew everything she described had actually happened.

"See, Zhou Tongtong? I wasn’t lying! I really can transform and get huge," the Little Black Cat said excitedly.

Zhou Tongtong tilted her head. She looked at the excitedly meowing Little Black Cat and asked in confusion, "So my dream was real?"

"Yeah! It happened yesterday evening. That Big Striped Cat was awful—it pinned me to the ground! It’s a good thing I transformed, otherwise Little White and I would’ve been in real trouble," the Little Black Cat said, his focus clearly elsewhere.

He hadn’t been able to prove to Zhou Tongtong that he could transform into a big cat.

But now that she had seen what happened in her dream and witnessed his transformation, he felt completely vindicated.

Zhou Tongtong, however, was focused on something else. She was so surprised that what she’d seen in her dream had actually happened that her mouth fell slightly agape.

"Why did I dream about something that really happened to you two?"

"Meow..." The two little strays looked at each other. Of course, they had no answer to that question.

"Whatever, I’m not going to worry about it. Little Black, you’re so cool! You can actually get bigger! But fighting is wrong, so don’t do it anymore. What if you get hurt?"

Being the optimist she was, Zhou Tongtong couldn’t figure out the mystery of the dream, so she just pushed it to the back of her mind.

Then, she scooped up the Little Black Cat and held him high, first praising him, then lecturing him.

The Little Black Cat was thrilled to be held up high by Zhou Tongtong. "It’s not like I started the fight with him. Besides, I’m super strong now. I won’t get hurt."

"Even if you won’t get hurt, you still can’t fight! Fighting is wrong, you know?" Zhou Tongtong warned sternly, puffing herself up like a little adult.

"Meow... I know, I won’t fight anymore." The Little Black Cat nodded obediently. The Little White Cat, who was looking up and watching Zhou Tongtong interact with Little Black, rolled his eyes.

The Little White Cat knew Little Black’s personality well. He didn’t believe for a second that his friend could keep his promise to Zhou Tongtong and stop fighting.

After all, whenever they clashed with other strays, it was almost always the Little Black Cat who immediately started clamoring for a fight.

"Little Black, can you transform for me now?" Zhou Tongtong said, putting the Little Black Cat on the ground. Her voice was full of anticipation; she wanted to see him in his transformed state one more time.

The Little White Cat knew his friend hadn’t figured out how to transform yet and watched his predicament with an amused grin.

"..." The previously cocky Little Black Cat was stumped by Zhou Tongtong’s request. Despite having transformed twice, he still didn’t have the faintest idea how to do it.

"What’s wrong? Don’t you want to show me?" Zhou Tongtong asked, her voice tinged with disappointment.

"Meow... Don’t get the wrong idea! It’s not that I don’t want to show you, it’s just... I don’t know how to do it," the Little Black Cat hastily explained.

"But you’ve already transformed twice. How could you still not know how?" Zhou Tongtong asked, confused by his explanation.

From her perspective, if he had already transformed—and twice, at that—he should have figured out how to do it by now.

The Little Black Cat stammered. Just then, his companion, the Little White Cat, spoke up. "Meow... Zhou Tongtong, both times Little Black transformed, it was an involuntary response when he was in danger. He doesn’t know how to do it on his own."

"Oh," Zhou Tongtong said, nodding as if she understood, though not completely.

"Meow... Just give me some more time. I’ll figure out how to do it," the Little Black Cat said.

He didn’t sound very confident when he said it, though. In his spare time, he had been trying to transform again, but every attempt had ended in failure without exception.

Although Zhou Tongtong was a little disappointed, she could sense that the Little Black Cat’s spirits had fallen, so she began to comfort him.

"You can do it! You’re so smart, Little Black. I believe you’ll figure it out soon..."

As she spoke, she reached out with her fair, soft hand and stroked the Little Black Cat’s little head.

"Meow..." Encouraged by Zhou Tongtong, the Little Black Cat immediately perked up, purring contentedly as he enjoyed her touch.

The Little White Cat watched with envy as Zhou Tongtong encouraged Little Black. He sighed to himself, ’Why don’t I have an amazing ability like transforming?’

At that moment, Zhou Tongtong, who had just started first grade, had no idea that if anyone were to find out these two little strays had awakened their Spirituality and reported them to the authorities, they would be captured.

After they played for a while, the streetlights in the complex flickered on. Soon, the sky would be completely dark, and Zhou Tongtong knew it was about time to head home.

"My mom should be finishing up dinner. I have to go home now. Let’s play again when I’m free..."

"Meow... Okay."

Zhou Tongtong said goodbye to the two little strays and skipped off toward the entrance of Building Three, disappearing in a flash.

After watching Zhou Tongtong go home, the two little strays headed for the large, leafy tree where they usually spent their time. They weren’t hungry, having eaten the grasshoppers earlier, and planned to take a nap under its branches.

"Meow... What are you doing?" The Little White Cat was lying on the grass, just about to close his eyes for a nap, when he noticed his friend arching his back and letting out a sharp meow every now and then. The strange behavior was very puzzling.

"Meow... I’m trying to replicate the feeling I had the last two times I transformed," the Little Black Cat explained.

The last two times he’d transformed, he’d been in a highly agitated state, so he was now trying to recreate that same emotion.

"..." The Little White Cat knew his companion was eager to master his transformation so he could show off for Zhou Tongtong and earn her praise. The only problem was that his current method was a bit noisy, making it impossible for Little White to get a peaceful nap.

"Meow... Can you please go try that somewhere farther away from me? I can’t settle down and rest with you yowling like that every few seconds."

Hearing his companion’s request, the Little Black Cat belatedly realized he was being a nuisance. He nodded sheepishly, left the base of the tree, and trotted off into the distance.

In a remote corner of the complex, the Little Black Cat was diligently trying to figure out how to transform. A series of meows emanated from behind the bushes, causing passing residents to glance over at the source of the sound, their faces filled with confusion.

The residents thought to themselves, ’Summer isn’t even over yet. It’s still months until spring when all the animals get frisky. Why are the neighborhood cats making such a racket already?’
