Chapter 610: Chapter 385: Warning, Extremely High Recognizability

Downtown.

In a branch office of the Superpower Administration Bureau’s monitoring department, an on-duty staff member was at their computer, tapping the keyboard as they processed some files.

The quiet office was filled with the echoing sound of a keyboard clacking away.

"*Yawn*!"

Having finished the task at hand, one of the staff members yawned, then turned to their colleague in the adjacent cubicle.

"I’m getting a little hungry. I’m thinking of ordering a late-night snack. Want anything?"

"Yeah, sure. Order one for me too."

Technological advancement has certainly made life more convenient. Ordering delivery after midnight... ten years ago, you’d have been hard-pressed to find anything at this hour.

But now, all you had to do was unlock your phone, open a delivery app, and you could easily browse a huge selection of restaurants to order whatever late-night snack you wanted.

Then, a delivery driver would bring it right to you in the shortest time possible.

"I’m gonna get some spicy hot pot."

"Sounds good."

"I’m getting mine extra spicy. You want yours like that?"

"Just mild for me is fine."

After placing the order, the staff member put his phone back on the desk. He was about to get up and pour himself a glass of water from the cooler when the landline on his desk began to ring.

"BRRRING..."

He put the glass he’d just picked up back on the desk and answered the ringing phone.

"Hello."

"This is Monitoring Point Seven. Our monitoring Spiritual Artifacts have detected a powerful Mutant Beast in the suburbs of the East District, near the safe zone. Its Spiritual Energy wave indicates a strength of Tier Two Peak."

"A Tier Two Peak Mutant Beast has appeared near the safe zone?!! How far is it from the zone’s border?"

"Roughly two to three kilometers."

"That’s too close."

"Yes. Please report this to your superiors immediately."

"Understood." After hanging up, the staff member immediately called his superiors to report the situation.

The message was relayed up the chain of command, quickly reaching the heads of the relevant departments within the Superpower Administration Bureau.

In record time, the department heads began issuing a flurry of orders.

An Investigator squad on patrol in the East District suburbs received the order. They immediately jumped in their vehicle and raced toward the Mutant Beast’s last known location.

A rookie Investigator, not long on the job, spoke to his captain, Liu Jialin, who was behind the wheel.

"Captain, that’s a Tier Two Peak Mutant Beast. Our squad doesn’t have the firepower to stop something like that. It’s impossible!"

Liu Jialin, a tall woman with her long, wavy hair tied back, glanced in the rearview mirror. "Xiaowang," she said to the rookie, "Superiors gave the order. Our job is to execute it, period. Don’t overthink it."

"Yes, ma’am." Seeing her expression, the rookie Investigator said no more. Just then, the veteran in the passenger seat chimed in with an explanation.

"Xiaowang, command knows that beast is way out of our league. They’re just sending us to the location first to get eyes on the situation.

If it’s unbeatable, we respond flexibly. Barring any surprises, we aren’t expected to go head-to-head with a beast we can’t defeat.

The heavy hitters will be brought in to deal with a beast of this level. So, don’t you worry too much."

"Okay." Hearing his senior’s explanation, the rookie Investigator let out a small sigh of relief.

It wasn’t that he was a coward, afraid to die. He’d only been on the job for a few days, and it was natural to be nervous in an emergency like this. When questions popped into his head, he couldn’t help but seek answers.

After explaining things to the rookie, the veteran Investigator in the passenger seat added,

"The dust has barely settled from that Mutant Beast swarm incident out in the South District Suburbs, and now another one this powerful shows up near the safe zone. Something’s not right."

Liu Jialin, still driving, nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, it is strange. I heard the higher-ups at the Bureau were just discussing this in a recent meeting. They’re thinking about assigning people to investigate the cause of these anomalies."

"I hope they find the cause and fix it," said the veteran Investigator from the passenger seat. "Otherwise, if this keeps happening every other day, even if we manage to handle each incident, it’ll cause widespread panic among the city’s residents."

「In the early hours of the morning, under a hazy night sky.」

Liu Jialin’s five-person squad sped toward the incident site.

Meanwhile, the Superpower Administration Bureau dispatched a unit with enough power to handle a Tier Two Peak Mutant Beast, sending them via helicopter to provide support.

After a twenty-minute drive, Liu Jialin’s five-person squad reached the border of the safe zone.

"Captain, are we sure this is the right place?" The rookie Investigator, Xiaowang, asked instinctively as he looked out the car window. He noticed that everything around them was completely silent.

"This is the right place. The coordinates the monitoring department sent me are for this exact spot.

But the Mutant Beast’s location isn’t right here. We need to go another two or three kilometers ahead."

After stopping the car, Liu Jialin answered the rookie’s question. Then she unbuckled her seatbelt, opened the door, and got out.

Seeing this, the other four Investigators in the car immediately followed suit.

They were at the edge of the safe zone. The road was paved, but there were no streetlights. The only illumination came from the silvery-white moonlight spilling down from the bright moon above.
