Chapter 604: Chapter 382: A Beast and One Worse Than a Beast, How to Choose?

A few months ago, the banks of the creek at this campsite would have been pitch-black after sunset.

But now, with the arrival of people, campsites glowing with dim yellow light were scattered tastefully along the creek’s banks, stretching into the distance as far as the eye could see.

The people camping here were either families or groups of friends who had come together.

Walking along the creek, you could hear different peals of laughter wafting from each dimly lit campsite you passed.

"Smells amazing!" Lin Li exclaimed, watching the noodles bubbling in the pot. He twitched his nose, taking in the tempting aroma.

"It’s ready. We can eat now," Su Yue said with a smile, sprinkling a handful of chopped scallions into the pot. "Give me your bowl."

Lin Li handed his large bowl to Su Yue, then watched as she served him the noodles.

"Here, go ahead and eat," Su Yue said, handing Lin Li a heaping bowl. Lin Li carried the noodles to the small table, sat down, and immediately picked up his chopsticks to dig in.

Even though it was just a simple bowl of noodles with shredded pork and vegetables, Su Yue’s cooking made it taste exceptionally good—far better than anything Lin Li cooked for himself at home.

Su Yue brought a small bowl of noodles over to the table and sat down. Watching Lin Li wolf down the noodles she had made, she said with a beaming smile, "My noodles are pretty good, right?"

"Delicious," Lin Li praised succinctly after swallowing a mouthful. He then picked up his chopsticks again and went back to devouring his noodles.

"Hey, don’t eat so fast! No one’s going to steal it from you. Don’t burn yourself," Su Yue reminded him when she saw how quickly he was eating.

Lin Li grunted in acknowledgment and slowed his eating speed slightly.

He couldn’t explain to Su Yue that because he’d eaten the Magical Little Fruit, the side effects hadn’t worn off yet and he was starving. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be in such a hurry to eat.

"Oh, right. I remember buying some vacuum-sealed braised chicken legs," Su Yue said after taking a bite of her noodles. Recalling the pre-cooked food she’d bought at the supermarket, she immediately stood up and started rummaging through a bag of snacks.

"You probably won’t be full from just noodles. Have some chicken legs to go with it!" Su Yue returned with seven or eight braised chicken legs, placed them on the table, and said to Lin Li.

Lin Li nodded, tore open a vacuum-sealed package, took a bite of a chicken leg, and then had another mouthful of noodles.

"These braised chicken legs taste pretty good, but homemade ones are always better," Su Yue commented, having opened and tasted one of the store-bought chicken legs herself. "I’ll teach you how to make them next week!"

"Okay! Actually, compared to braised chicken legs, I like fried chicken legs more..." Lin Li said after taking a sip of the noodle broth.

"Is that so? Then let’s just make both! They’re both pretty simple to make, anyway." For someone as skilled in the kitchen as Su Yue, it was no big deal.

As Lin Li and Su Yue ate and chatted, a fierce-looking man and a man with dyed-blond hair watched them with glinting eyes from a hillside dozens of meters away from their campsite.

"Boss."

"You did a good job this time. There’s nothing else for you to do here, so head back."

"Huh?" Zhu Daqi froze for a moment upon hearing this. Then, he asked curiously, "Boss, what are you going to do next?"

Liu Menglong glanced back at his subordinate, who immediately shivered.

"Don’t ask questions you’re not supposed to. I told you to go back, so go back. Stop with the nonsense," Liu Menglong said with a stern expression.

"Yes, yes, I’ll go right now." Zhu Daqi nodded hastily and started down the hillside.

He walked without stopping toward his parked car, using the dim yellow light from the campsites along the creek to watch the uneven path at his feet.

Standing on the hillside, Liu Menglong watched Zhu Daqi walk away into the distance. He then withdrew his gaze and turned to look back at the target’s campsite.

...

Under the moonlight, the desolate wilderness was plated in a silvery sheen, making it feel even colder and more deserted.

Around a stretch of muddy swamp, there was no sound of chirping insects, which was highly unusual.

Suddenly, a SQUELCHING sound echoed from the swamp. Looking toward the noise, one could see the previously calm center of the swamp begin to churn with muddy water.

"ROAR..."

A muffled roar came from the muddy swamp. A moment later, a behemoth rose from the mire and began to crawl toward the bank.

Its massive feet trampled the grass as it shook its body, flinging mud and water in all directions.

Bathed in the silvery moonlight, the creature was revealed to be a giant lizard over twenty meters long. Its entire body was covered in purple scales, and a single, sharp red horn grew from the top of its head. The ferocious aura it exuded was terrifying to behold.

"RUMBLE..."

The Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast, having slept in the swamp all day, had been woken by hunger. It immediately crawled ashore, ready to find food to fill its stomach.

It looked up at the moon in the sky, which was quite a bit smaller than the one in its original world, then chose a direction and began to crawl forward.

If any human had been present, they would have discovered that the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast was crawling in the direction of a human city.

In some areas away from the swamp, the chirping of insects had been incessant. But as the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast passed through, the sound from the grass instantly vanished.
