Still, there’s a 95% probability they’ll exhibit desirable traits nearly identical to the simulation results.
"This system can perform the pairings directly? And then analyze for desirable traits?" Zhan Ting was stunned.
Zhang Siguang, however, wasn’t overly excited. After all, this was brand-new technology. "I just don’t know how accurate it is. If it has even twenty to thirty percent accuracy, it will be a huge help for our breeding program."
As for any higher accuracy, Zhang Siguang didn’t dare to imagine it.
The analysis of the potential pairings was completed in just about two hours.
A total of 28 candidates met the standard set by Jiang Miao—an annual milk production of over 14 tons. Of these, 7 individuals showed excellent levels of milk protein and other components.
The bulls among the second-generation candidates, however, required a second round of simulated pairing analysis.
The seven most promising second-generation cows were selected. Then, their genes were put through a second round of simulated pairings with the genes of all the second-generation bulls.
This time, it took less than half an hour to get the results. The genes of five second-generation bulls, when combined with those of the seven exceptional second-generation cows, produced some truly outstanding third-generation cows.
One of the third-generation cows could achieve an annual milk production of 19.7 tons. The dozens of other third-generation cows produced from these pairings generally had annual milk yields of over 15 tons.
Since the breeding plan was already established, Jiang Miao didn’t dawdle and gave his orders directly, "Dr. Zhang, your team will follow this breeding plan. Start by inducing embryo production in those 12 first-generation cows. At the same time, collect semen from the 9 first-generation breeding bulls, perform sperm sorting, and then use surrogacy to raise the second-generation bulls and cows. Once the second-generation cows and bulls have matured, proceed with the next round of breeding according to the plan."
Although he didn’t know if this breeding plan was reliable, Zhang Siguang still decided to give it a try. "Understood. You can leave this to me!"
In truth, he only dared to take on this task because he knew Jiang Miao had his back, so he wouldn’t have to worry about being held responsible.
If he were still working at his previous company, Shounong Group, without backing from management, he would never have dared to be so bold.
Jiang Miao turned to look at Zhan Ting. "Dr. Zhan, your task is to continue testing the genes of the dairy cows at the breeding base. For every two hundred bull and two hundred cow gene samples you test, bundle the genetic reports and send them to my email address at the Technology Division. I will personally process these gene sequences."
"Understood." Zhan Ting nodded.
"Once the gene testing for the cows at this base is complete, go to the other bases and test the genes of all the remaining cows."
Zhan Ting hesitantly reminded him, "Boss, if that’s the case, we might not have enough manpower."
Jiang Miao gave a straightforward solution, "Just submit a report to the HR department to recruit 10 more personnel specializing in gene testing. Tell them I approved it."
"Alright, I’ll submit the application to the HR department as soon as possible." Zhan Ting breathed a sigh of relief. ’He had been genuinely worried. After all, he currently only had four people under him. Testing the genes of such a huge population of dairy cows would definitely not be easy.’
Jiang Miao added, "While you’re at it, recruit 10 more specialists for the breeding station as well. Submit the request in the same report."
"No problem." Zhan Ting made a note of it.
After dismissing Zhan Ting and Zhang Siguang, Jiang Miao convened a meeting with the management of the breeding base that afternoon.
He had the breeding base management first divide all the cows on the base into groups.
The fact was, dairy cow breeds in the country were a bit of a mess. Currently, all of Hero Dairy’s cows were Holsteins, but even the Holsteins were divided into many different lineages.
For example, the Cyrus Holstein (also known as the Black-and-White cow), which had been bred domestically for nearly a hundred years, was a crossbreed of traditional Holsteins and local yellow cattle. It was characterized by a smaller size and lower milk yield, an old breed on the verge of being phased out.
Hero Dairy currently had only a small number of Cyrus Holsteins, with only about three hundred head remaining. They weren’t raised here at the Luling Breeding Base, but at the old base in Yuzhang City.
At this time, the Holsteins at the Luling Breeding Base could be divided into four main lineages: the Large Holstein A-line, the Large Holstein O-line, the Medium Holstein Z-line, and the Medium Holstein H-line.
The Large Holstein A-line’s core genetic population came from America.
The Large Holstein O-line’s core genetic population came from the European Union.
The Medium Holstein Z-line’s core genetic population came from a new generation of crossbreeds independently developed in the country.
The Medium Holstein H-line consisted of cows from small-scale crossbreeding efforts in various regions, outside the American, Chinese, and European lines, and their genetic lineage was extremely chaotic.
The reason Jiang Miao wanted to divide these cows into groups was to adjust their feed formulas.
After all, breeding was too slow. A cow’s gestation period is 280 days, and a calf needs another 18 months to grow before it can be bred. All told, it took nearly 28 to 30 months to produce a single generation.
Therefore, Jiang Miao planned to start with the feed. Improving the feed formula, after all, would have almost immediate effects, capable of significantly boosting the cows’ milk production in just a month or so.
Shortly after the four groups had been separated, Jiang Miao gave up on the hodgepodge H-line cows entirely. Their genetic origins were too chaotic, making it difficult to create an efficient feed formula, and he couldn’t possibly create a custom feed formula for every single cow.
