I Return From Hell
Chapter 155 - 148: Uncle, Get Up and Play with Baby
Chapter 155: Chapter 148: Uncle, Get Up and Play with Baby
Xia Hongwei was in an extremely dangerous situation.
Regardless of whether it was Xia Yu on the toilet or not, if they discovered his presence, things would not end well for him.
The best thing to do was stay put, hold his breath, and do his utmost not to reveal his presence.
Unfortunately.
The blood rushed to his head.
He was losing control of his thoughts and emotions.
’I really want to take a look.’
’Just one peek.’
As if possessed, Xia Hongwei’s hand found the phone that was about to fall out of his pocket. He remembered setting up a flashlight shortcut: a long press of the volume down button.
All he had to do was press it, and he would see a beauty he’d never have the chance to see otherwise in his entire life.
The temptation was immense.
’It would be worth it even if I die!’
Wait!
Die?
’I don’t want to die!’
The hairs on Xia Hongwei’s arms stood on end. He snapped back to his senses, stopping himself from doing anything impulsive.
Coming to, he broke out in a cold sweat.
He listened carefully. The sound of running water was gone.
’Was I hearing things?!’
!!!
’Something’s wrong with this place!’
Xia Hongwei could clearly feel his heart racing, as if it were about to leap out of his chest.
As his rationality returned, he thought it over and found two suspicious points:
First, the hotel’s soundproofing was mediocre. The sounds of shouting and fighting in the hallway had gone on for so long. He had just stormed in, and someone had been pounding on the door. There was no way Xia Yu could have missed all that commotion!
Besides, Xia Yu wasn’t the only one in the room; there was a man with her.
’Could both of them have heard nothing?’
Second, the sound of water couldn’t have just stopped abruptly. And even if it had, why wasn’t there any other noise?
’Maybe I should turn on the flashlight and check things out?’
’It’s too damn scary in the dark.’
’If I get caught, I’ll just tell them what’s happening outside. Hiding here during all the chaos is perfectly explainable, right?’
He weighed his options and, in the end, still chose to long-press the volume down button.
Light flooded the space.
The bathroom was empty.
As for the toilet, there was no Xia Yu.
There wasn’t even the ghost of a shadow!
"Huh?"
The next moment, Xia Hongwei’s pupils constricted. He stared intently at the half-open bathroom door.
He distinctly remembered the bathroom door being closed!
No, locked!
But now...
In an instant, an endless chill shot through him, making his entire body go rigid as his breathing grew rapid.
Suddenly, Xia Hongwei felt a peculiar presence in the bathroom staring at him. This feeling shattered the last of his mental defenses.
His lips trembled as he struggled to speak, his voice shaking and barely coherent. "Who are you? What do you want?"
There was no response.
Not even the slightest sound.
’Am I overthinking this?’
No.
Xia Hongwei frowned. The feeling of being watched was growing stronger. He licked his dry lips and started moving toward the bathroom door, speaking as he went. "Xia Yu?"
"Is that you?"
"I didn’t mean to come into your room, I just..."
As he spoke, he suddenly remembered the third taboo on the flyer. ’This place isn’t actually haunted, is it?’
’No way!’
*TAP.*
A light footstep sounded.
Hearing the sound, Xia Hongwei shone his flashlight over and saw a faint footprint. It was small, a little dirty, a little dark, and even more bizarrely...
...there wasn’t just one.
On the floor.
On the walls.
They were everywhere!!!
"AHHH!!!"
Fear washed over him, and Xia Hongwei leaped up, lunging for the bathroom door in a state of utter terror.
But the next moment...
*BANG.*
The door slammed shut.
Xia Hongwei slammed hard against the bathroom door. His heart sank into an icy abyss as he began pounding on it frantically.
The originally flimsy bathroom door had, for some reason, become unnaturally sturdy. No matter how hard he hammered on it, it didn’t even shake.
’I can’t escape!’
Though he didn’t want to admit it, he had to accept this fact. Turning his head, he caught a glimpse of the footprints moving horizontally across the wall to his left.
As if a person were walking sideways on the wall!
This wasn’t a person.
It was a ghost!
A ghost!
Xia Hongwei’s teeth chattered, audibly clicking together. "Don’t come any closer, don’t come closer! I know I’m not a good person, but I haven’t done anything that bad."
"All I’ve ever done is install pinhole cameras in other people’s bathrooms."
"I just uploaded the videos to a few websites to make a little money."
"And that one young girl... after people found out about the video, she jumped off a building and killed herself. I didn’t want that to happen!"
*Sob sob...*
As he spoke, he realized how detestable he sounded and couldn’t continue. Besides, the footprints were still getting closer.
’This isn’t going to solve anything!’
Xia Hongwei backed away, his mind racing for a solution.
’I heard that if you open your phone’s camera, you might be able to see... unclean things.’
A method he’d once seen online popped into his head. A thought stirred within him. ’Should I try it?’
As if possessed, he decided to do it.
Maybe it was his overwhelming curiosity, or maybe he was simply backed into a corner, grasping at straws. After all... trying something was better than just waiting to die.
He hadn’t thought about how he would survive after seeing it.
His fingers trembled so much that it took him three taps to open the camera app.
And then...
The flashlight went out.
The screen was pitch black. Only then did Xia Hongwei remember that opening the camera app automatically turns off the flashlight. Terrified, he scrambled to exit the app and close the camera.
Just then, a black shadow flashed across the screen.
"Holy shit!"
Xia Hongwei jumped, his hand shaking so violently he almost dropped the phone.
Once he got a firm grip on it...
...he saw that a little boy had appeared on the screen, smiling at him.
But the grotesque, blood-red cracks on his face and his black-hole-like eyes were anything but friendly.
"Fuck you!"
He instinctively threw the phone.
But the phone just hovered in mid-air, the screen still pointed at him. Or rather... the little boy was still looking right at him, his smile growing ever more terrifying.
"Ah!"
The next moment, a bloodcurdling scream pierced the night.
"Xia Hongwei!"
Having just arrived outside Room 206, Xia Yu heard the noise and immediately knew what was happening.
*BANG.*
Immediately after, Little Flower violently kicked the room door open but couldn’t break down the bathroom door.
*VMMMM.*
Yin Qi pulsed from its body as it charged again.
*CRASH.*
The bathroom door flew off its hinges.
A bizarre scene greeted them: Xia Hongwei lay stiffly on the floor, his body rigid and cold. Only his violently trembling pupils showed he was still alive.
And beside him sat a little boy, who said, "Uncle, get up and play with me."
"If you don’t get up now, you’ll never get up again."
"Hee hee~"
