I Rebuilt FGO as a Tower Defense Game

Chapter 69: The Wandering Knight

  • Next Chapter

Beneath that oasis constructed of magical energy and those magnificent temple pillars, Charles was suddenly stunned.

He didn't see a massive army waiting in formation, nor did he see a heavily guarded fortress.

What he saw were ordinary civilians, packed closely together and dressed in rags, yet wearing smiles of relief after surviving a disaster.

There were elderly people distributing clear spring water in the shade, and children running and playing on the steps beneath the pyramids.

"These are..." Charles's pupils contracted slightly.

These emaciated people were clearly the same refugees they had seen in front of the gates of the Holy City of Camelot, whom they had watched the Knights of the Round Table ruthlessly slaughter while being powerless to save them!

"Those are the refugees who fled from the Holy City... Why are they here?"

Mash also discovered the scene behind the temple and covered her mouth in surprise.

Ozymandias, sitting upon his throne, watched the shocked protagonist group below and ceased his arrogant laughter. A glimmer of kingly depth flashed in his eyes.

"Are you surprised, Magicians of Chaldea?"

The Pharaoh slammed his scepter heavily onto the throne, his voice echoing through the entire temple like a great bell.

"That self-proclaimed god, the Lion King, for the sake of her ridiculous 'eternity,' turns living humans into specimens and treats the unchosen citizens as disposable pawns, carrying out the so-called pure 'Holy Selection' massacre."

"It is simply the height of folly!"

Ozymandias stood up abruptly, spreading his arms as if to embrace the entire desert.

"The duty of a King is not to pursue some ethereal eternity, but to protect the millions of people living in the present, struggling to survive upon this earth!"

"As long as I remain, as long as this glorious Ramesseum Tentyris stands here, that false god who holds the Holy Spear shall not dream of touching a single inch of my territory!"

"I am the only absolute sanctuary in this desert of despair!"

Silence. Whether it was the protagonist group in the game, Charles wearing his VR headset in reality, or even the tens of thousands of players across the internet watching this plot unfold, at this moment, everyone fell into a deathly silence.

An indescribable shock, like an electric current, instantly surged through Charles's entire body.

"Holy crap..." Charles abruptly pulled off his VR headset, his scalp tingling and goosebumps covering his skin.

The Knights of the Round Table spoke of 'justice and purity' yet slaughtered refugees like cold-blooded machines before the gates of the Holy City.

Yet this Pharaoh, who seemed extremely arrogant, constantly demanding mortals to kneel and viewing all life as ants—this 'Egyptian Tyrant'—had built a magnificent temple in this dead desert to provide a pure land free of slaughter for the fleeing civilians?!

"So that's how it is... So that's how it is!!!"

Charles paced back and forth in his room with excitement, his eyes even turning slightly red.

"The Lion King represents 'the preservation of a god's absolute logic,' while the Pharaoh represents 'a human king's protection of the living'! Chaldea, the Knights of the Round Table, the Egyptian Temple! The Sixth Singularity tells the story of a power struggle between three factions!"

"A tyrant on the surface, but actually the true savior of this land? Pharaoh, I'm sorry, I was a bit loud just now; you are the true god!"
