I Really Didn’t Mean to Make Money

Chapter 397: Yang Dahai, You Really Have a “Wonderful Daughter”!

  • Next Chapter

When he reached the door and opened it, Chen Mo instinctively looked down, expecting to see a familiar little head. Instead, he saw the hem of a white dress.

It wasn’t Yang Duoduo!

Realizing this, Chen Mo looked up.

Standing at the door were two unfamiliar young women. One of them, dressed in a white dress, looked vaguely familiar, though he was certain they had never met before.

“Who are you looking for?” he asked calmly, glancing at the two women.

“Hello, President Chen. I’m Yang Dahai’s eldest daughter, Yang Yaoyao. This is my classmate, Liu Weiwei. We’re both new employees at Boring Short Video—we just joined today.”

“We came to deliver lunch in Duoduo’s place, and also to thank you. You’ve done so much for my parents over this time. I truly appreciate it.”

Yang Yaoyao spoke earnestly, and after she finished, she gave a deep bow.

From the bottom of her heart, she was grateful to this President Chen.

After all, no matter how you looked at it, the changes in her family’s circumstances were thanks to this man standing before her.

“So you’re Duoduo’s big sister. She’s mentioned you before. Come on in. And no need to thank me—your parents have helped me a lot too. They’ve worked hard, and they’ve earned everything themselves.”

Chen Mo smiled and stepped aside to let the two of them in. No wonder Yang Yaoyao had looked a bit familiar—she was Sister Hong’s eldest daughter. The resemblance was clear in their features.

Of course, she looked even more like Yang Duoduo. But Duoduo was still young, her face still soft with childish innocence.

“By the way, you said you both joined Boring Short Video today?”

Chen Mo casually took the food basket from Yang Yaoyao’s hands. He remembered that not long ago, Yang Dahai had come to him, hoping to get a position in the company for his eldest daughter, Yang Yaoyao.

But later, he said it wasn’t necessary, and Chen Mo hadn’t given it much thought.

Now, hearing that she had already joined Boring Short Video, he was a bit surprised.

“Yes. We used to be streamers on Boring Short Video, doing educational livestreams. But yesterday, General Manager Li invited us to officially join the company. After thinking it over, we decided to accept. Funny enough, my parents also work for your group, President Chen.”

Yang Yaoyao and Liu Weiwei changed into slippers at the door and followed him into the apartment.

They looked around curiously. The room was surprisingly simple for a company president—just a normal, modest home. Nothing extravagant.

But it was very clean and tidy.

What shocked Yang Yaoyao and Liu Weiwei even more was President Chen’s appearance. Her mother had mentioned that he was young and capable, but in her mind, even a “young and capable” president had to be in his thirties at least.

But now, seeing him in person—he didn’t look thirty at all. He looked about their age, maybe just a few years older.

Chen Mo placed the food basket on the dining table and was about to unpack the dishes when he suddenly froze mid-motion, something in Yang Yaoyao’s words catching his attention.

Wait a second. Yesterday, he had instructed Li Shen to recruit those two streamers who had been promoting Boring Short Video.

Thinking back now…

He looked at Yang Yaoyao and Liu Weiwei again.

Yesterday.

Two people.

Streamers.

Every keyword matched.

And just before leaving work today, Li Shen had reported that the two streamers had officially joined Boring Short Video.

Everything lined up. It was obvious—these two were the very same streamers who had been causing a stir while promoting Boring Short Video.

Well, well.

Yang Dahai, you really have a “wonderful” daughter!

If I hadn’t been sharp enough, your daughter would’ve single-handedly ruined Boring Short Video.

Chen Mo grumbled inwardly, his smile fading slightly as he looked at the two women. He reached out and took the other food basket from Liu Weiwei, placing it on the table as well.

Yang Yaoyao didn’t notice the change in his expression. Seeing that Chen Mo had taken both baskets, she stepped forward to help unpack the dishes and set them on the table. Liu Weiwei joined in, taking out the food from the second basket.

“President Chen, we’ll be heading back now.”

After arranging the dishes neatly on the table, Yang Yaoyao politely announced their departure.

Chen Mo gave a few courteous words to see them off, then walked them to the door.

After returning inside, he sat down at the dining table, gazing at the lavish spread of food.

He couldn’t help but sigh.

How did honest folks like Brother Yang and Sister Hong end up with such a rebellious daughter?

Still, thank goodness…

Now that Yang Yaoyao and Liu Weiwei had been recruited into the company, the crisis surrounding Boring Short Video’s publicity had more or less been resolved.

…

“Say, do you think if our daughter delivers meals over there, President Chen might take a liking to her?”

In the kitchen, Dong Hong pulled Yang Dahai over and asked in a hushed voice.

“What are you thinking about all day? Whether he likes her or not is our business. Why are you always trying to meddle?”

Yang Dahai shot her a look and replied irritably. Back when they were still working at the clothing factory, he had entertained the thought that if their daughter ended up with President Chen, it wouldn’t be a bad match.

But now, he no longer thought that way.

President Chen was the president of a whole corporation—young, capable, and full of promise.

And their daughter? She came from an ordinary background, didn’t have an outstanding academic record, and had only just started her job.

To put it bluntly, she wasn’t a good match for President Chen.

“Sigh.”

Dong Hong let out a sigh and didn’t press the topic further.

After all this time, she had seen that President Chen was never short on women around him.

There were plenty of beautiful, capable, and elegant women in his circle, yet she hadn’t seen him show genuine interest in any of them.

And compared to those women, her daughter didn’t stand out at all.

Just look at President Chen’s assistant—she had both the looks and the presence. And to be a president’s assistant, she had to be highly competent too.

For her daughter to stand out among such women, it would be asking too much of her.

“What are you sighing about? Our daughter’s working at President Chen’s company now, and at least her livelihood is secure. As for love and relationships, let them figure that out themselves. Don’t go playing matchmaker for no reason.”

Yang Dahai glanced at Dong Hong and couldn’t help but remind her.

“I know, I know.”

Dong Hong rolled her eyes at her husband. President Chen was the president of a corporation—how could she possibly play matchmaker in that situation? She wasn’t that clueless.

Thud!

The front door opened and then closed again.

Hearing the sound, Dong Hong and Yang Dahai knew their daughter was back and stepped out of the kitchen.

“Come on, dinner’s ready. Everyone, come eat.”

Dong Hong called out.

“Yay, dinner time!”

Yang Duoduo darted in from the living room.

Soon, everyone was seated around the table and began eating.

“Weiwei, don’t be shy. Just treat this like your own home. Eat whatever you like.”

Dong Hong said with a smile.

“I will, thank you.”

Liu Weiwei replied with a smile.

“Mom, tomorrow Weiwei and I are moving out to live somewhere else.”

Yang Yaoyao swallowed her food and looked at her mother as she spoke.

“Moving out? Why? Isn’t it nice living at home?”

Dong Hong was caught off guard. She had thought her daughter would stay at home now that she was back.

“Weiwei’s living alone, so I’ll go keep her company. The apartment is in Changbai Scenic Garden, not far from here.”

Yang Yaoyao explained.

They had already signed the lease after returning from the contract signing earlier today. The apartment in Changbai Scenic Garden was ready—they could move in right away.

“Well, alright then.”

When Dong Hong heard it was in the same neighborhood, she didn’t object further.
