Chapter 442: Chapter 442: Eating Soft Rice Again

As it turned out, Dylan Dawson’s success as the CEO of a major corporation wasn’t just a fluke; he had some real substance to him.

After hearing what Arabella Donovan said and learning that the woman truly had ill intentions toward him, Dylan Dawson immediately called his secretary. He instructed him to keep an eye on the mother and daughter in case they saw the livestream, realized the jig was up, and tried to skip town with the money.

Subsequent events proved his foresight. When the secretary arrived at the private apartment with his men, the mother-daughter duo was already heading out with their suitcases. A few minutes later, and they would have gotten away.

In addition to that, Dylan Dawson had his people investigate the woman’s life in the years after she left her hometown. They were to meticulously uncover every person she had been in contact with and the nature of their relationships.

After giving these instructions, Dylan Dawson kept his promise. He immediately took out his phone, asked for Arabella Donovan’s bank account number, and transferred twenty million to her on the spot.

The production crew wanted to intervene, but then they remembered he was the show’s biggest investor. In the end, no one dared to press their luck. They could only watch as Arabella Donovan earned several episodes’ worth of their budget in under an hour.

Arabella Donovan accepted the money with a clear conscience. In fact, her detailed knowledge of Dylan Dawson’s family affairs wasn’t just from reading his face; it was also because a character named Tim had appeared late in the book about the Rhodes Family.

The people at his company all called him Mr. Tim, and he was the loyal confidant of the lawless madman who was one of Guinevere Rhodes’s backup suitors later in the story.

Being a lawless madman, he had undoubtedly committed numerous crimes. Since Mr. Tim was his confidant and deeply involved, it stood to reason that his own hands wouldn’t be clean.

However, there are exceptions to every rule, and it was precisely this exception that made Arabella Donovan remember the character so vividly.

This Mr. Tim had worked under the big boss for years, rising to the position of a trusted confidant, yet his record was spotless. He had never taken a life. He even used his position to secretly save innocent people caught in power struggles, a testament to his outstanding capabilities.

But it was this very man who eventually got blood on his hands. He betrayed the boss who had given him his big break, leaking the company’s dirty secrets to his boss’s mortal enemy. This caused his boss to suffer a massive blow, becoming the first of the suitors to be struck out.

The reason for this betrayal was that the big boss’s nephew had conspired with a woman to seize a company. They not only sold the company’s owner overseas to have his kidneys harvested, leaving him to die a violent death in a foreign land, but also threw his only son out onto the streets. Not only that, they framed him, saddling him with enormous debt and forcing him to endure a hundred times the hardship of an ordinary person at a young age.

When Mr. Tim found the boy, life had already worn down his edges, and debt had bent his back. Mr. Tim didn’t dare reveal his identity, fearing his own enemies would find out and harm the child to get back at him.

In the end, Mr. Tim chose to secretly send the boy to a remote city, forging a new identity for him and leaving him enough money to cut ties with his past and start a new life.

As for himself, he picked up the butcher’s knife for the first time, personally executing the boss’s nephew and his mistress-and-daughter pair who had harmed his family. Then, with all his strength and every means at his disposal, driven by a determination for mutual destruction, he enacted his revenge on the boss who had known about the affair but tacitly condoned his nephew’s actions the entire time.

A moment ago, while carefully examining Dylan Dawson’s face, Arabella had made a startling discovery: Mr. Tim, the character active late in the story, was none other than Dylan Dawson’s long-lost younger brother. And the hapless older brother mentioned only in the background—the one betrayed by those close to him, who lost both his company and his kidneys—was Dylan Dawson himself.

And the unlucky nephew—the one who was kicked out of his home due to his father’s negligence, endured immense hardship, and was finally sent away to start a new life, never knowing he had an uncle in this world—was none other than the boy right in front of them. The very same Dawson who, though quiet, would protect his sister and the weak when it mattered most.

Hector Donovan had a sudden epiphany. ’No wonder Arabella said their family’s story was tragic and was so critical of the Dawson Group’s CEO. This whole "repaying a debt of gratitude" thing literally got his entire family wiped out, leaving just one kid behind. He didn’t just lose his own life; he took his brother and son down with him. Just unbelievable.’

Seeing that Dylan Dawson wasn’t stopped from transferring money to Arabella Donovan, Milton Lambert and the others realized they’d been thinking too narrowly.

The production crew had only said they couldn’t use their own money to complete the tasks. Paying Arabella for a fortune-telling session wasn’t a task, so naturally, they could pay her whenever they wanted.

And so, a few more people started asking Arabella for her account number to transfer money. Perhaps because, as a woman, she wasn’t worried about starting unfounded rumors, Faye Collins’s mind was clearly quicker than the others’. She added Arabella as a contact first before sending the money from her account.

The others paused for a moment after seeing this. Exchanging glances, they cast aside all other concerns and shamelessly went up to ask for her contact information as well. They dressed it up with pleasantries: "To meet is to be destined," "Once you’ve read my fortune, we’re friends," and "Another friend means another path, let’s stay in touch."

Dylan Dawson didn’t join the commotion. He simply asked Arabella Donovan, "Are you a celebrity? An actress or a singer?"

"Neither an actress nor a singer, and I have no plans to enter this industry. But my brother is a celebrity—a famous one."

Dylan Dawson followed the direction Arabella pointed in and fixed his gaze on Hector Donovan for a long moment. He nodded but said nothing.

Hector Donovan, however, recognized a familiar meaning in his gaze. ’Alright,’ he thought, ’looks like I get to live off my little sister again!’ ℯℯ𝑙.

Hearing Arabella’s words, Milton Lambert also proactively went up and slung an arm around Hector’s shoulder. "Hector, my friend, I just so happen to have..."

The show’s cameras faithfully recorded everything. In the livestream chat, Hector Donovan’s fans fell silent.

Before this, the chat had been filled with comments from haters who disliked Hector Donovan for bringing someone onto the variety show. They tried to stir up trouble between the siblings, claiming the sister was a leech trying to use her brother to break into the industry. Although the fans hadn’t been swayed, a seed of doubt had been planted in their minds, making them wonder if Arabella was truly trying to ride her brother’s coattails into showbiz.

But now, seeing this... well, hot damn. It turned out their idol wasn’t carrying his sister; his sister could casually carry him with a flick of her wrist.

So, after a brief silence, the livestream chat—aside from a few bitter trolls spamming "SCRIPTED!" and "IT’S RIGGED!" who were as jealous of Arabella’s multimillion-dollar haul as the director, their eyes practically bleeding with envy—was filled with Hector Donovan’s fans laughing their heads off and thanking his sister for the carry.

[My idol probably never expected this. After years in the industry always being the one to carry others, he’s finally being carried himself. And by his own little sister! So, where can I find a sister this awesome? Drop the address, I’m buying some burlap sacks right now!]
