I Read Their Tragic Fates, and My Family Reads My Mind?
Chapter 365: Let Go of the Savior Complex
Chapter 365: Chapter 365: Let Go of the Savior Complex
"At that moment, the driver your father had bribed to wait at the other intersection was completely dumbfounded. This wasn’t part of the plan. He immediately pulled out his phone to call your biological father and demand an explanation."
"Your biological father might not be a good person, but he’s sharp. As soon as the driver explained the situation, he guessed your scheme. And just like that, your already fragile father-daughter relationship shattered. Am I right?"
CRASH—
Relentlessly pressed by Arabella Donovan, Cassandra Lynch stumbled back into the table behind her with a loud crash.
Cassandra Lynch took the opportunity to fall to the ground, feigning a heart attack and looking weak and in pain.
The surrounding onlookers were startled. Recalling she had mentioned having a heart condition earlier, they instinctively took a few steps back, afraid that if Cassandra Lynch really had an attack and something happened, they’d get blamed for it.
Arabella Donovan gave her a cool glance, her eyes filled with disgust.
’She’s putting on a decent act. But after all that carrying on, her lips are still perfectly rosy. A heart attack, really? Who does she think she’s fooling?’
The crowd, who had grown anxious when Cassandra Lynch collapsed and worried Arabella Donovan would get into trouble, collectively relaxed. ’She’s faking? Oh. Never mind then.’
Cassandra Lynch lay there on the floor for what felt like an eternity, but no one came to help her up or call an ambulance. She was so furious she could have ground her teeth to dust.
And the culprit behind it all was standing right beside her, looking down at her with a cold expression, as if staring at a corpse.
"My fourth sister was lucky and survived, but of the eleven people on that school bus—the driver and the students they’d already picked up—three died, four were critically injured, and four had minor injuries. Three human lives, snuffed out because of your selfish whim. When you wake up in the middle of the night, do you ever feel a shred of guilt? Are you ever afraid they’ll come back to claim your life?"
As soon as Arabella Donovan said this, a few customers in the shop who had felt a bit sorry seeing Cassandra Lynch’s "attack" and were hesitating about whether to call an ambulance to prevent a tragedy, swiftly put their phones back in their pockets.
They decided to drop their savior complexes and respect her destiny. The last thing they wanted were the vengeful ghosts of the wrongly killed coming for them in the middle of the night. Amitabha!
"She’s telling the truth! Someone in the livestream chat from Stroven City just confirmed it. There really was a major car accident in Stroven City last year. A truck hit a moving school bus, and both vehicles overturned. The truck driver and the bus driver died on the scene. And among the students on the bus, two died, four were critically injured, and four had minor injuries. The numbers match up."
This statement caused another uproar in the coffee shop.
Lying on the floor, Cassandra Lynch’s expression changed. She wasn’t as concerned about the news story being dug up as she was about what the customer had just said... a livestream? ’Damn it, someone in the shop is livestreaming?’
’Doesn’t that mean that it’s not just the people in this coffee shop, but countless others online who now know what happened today? That they heard everything Arabella Donovan just said?’
At this thought, Cassandra Lynch couldn’t keep up the charade any longer. She scrambled up from the floor with an agility that betrayed no sign of illness, lunging toward the person with the phone to knock it out of their hand and forcibly end the unplanned broadcast.
Unfortunately, before she could even touch the person’s phone, Arabella Donovan, with remarkable foresight, grabbed her by the wrist, stopping her in her tracks.
"Well, look at you, perfectly healthy. What’s wrong? Can’t keep up the act anymore?"
The surrounding crowd snapped out of it, their gazes toward Cassandra Lynch turning even more hostile, especially the customer whose phone had nearly been knocked away, almost ending the stream.
"She was faking it. Of course, she was faking it the whole time. This woman can’t speak a single true word. She’s a liar."
"She’s not just a liar, she’s a murderer. Look at that vicious expression on her face just now, trying to snatch someone’s phone. Her guilty conscience is making her show her true colors."
"That’s right! A liar and a murderer! She looks so fragile, but she’s got such a venomous heart. We can’t let her get away. Grab her!"
...
Hearing the crowd’s chatter and seeing more and more people raising their phones to point at her, Cassandra Lynch instinctively covered her face and shrieked, "Stop filming! Stop filming me! You’re violating my privacy and my image rights! I’ll sue you! I’ll sue all of you!"
After screaming at the bystanders, Cassandra Lynch didn’t forget to turn her venom on Arabella Donovan. "And you, you bitch, Arabella Donovan! Everything you said is a lie! It’s all lies! It’s slander and defamation! I’ll sue you for slander! You just wait, I won’t let you get away with this!"
"Who is it you won’t be letting get away with anything?" The moment Cassandra Lynch’s voice fell, several familiar voices came from outside.
Cassandra Lynch stiffened slightly. Realizing who it was, her eyes widened in shock as she turned toward the sound at the entrance.
The Lynch Family, who had just been next door enjoying the show, had appeared at the coffee shop’s entrance and were now making their way through the crowd toward them.
Cassandra Lynch never expected to run into them here, and she had no idea how much they had heard. She resorted to her usual trick: striking first by playing the victim.
"Uncle, Aunt, Zane, Melody, what are you all doing here? I... I was just missing the coffee from this cafe near home, so I came for a walk. I never expected to run into Arabella. And I certainly didn’t expect her to start spreading baseless rumors and slandering me the moment she saw me, even getting all these clueless bystanders to gang up on me."
By the end, Cassandra Lynch was on the verge of tears, putting on a flawless performance of someone who had been terribly wronged.
But now, the look in the Lynch family’s eyes held none of the affection and indulgence they had shown her for over a decade.
"We were right next door. We heard everything you two said."
The expression on Cassandra Lynch’s face froze again, but she quickly recovered. She wrenched her hand free from Arabella Donovan’s grasp and lunged toward Mrs. Lynch.
"Aunt, you’ve always doted on me the most, and you know me best. Since you heard everything from next door, you must know that what she said is all lies, right? You watched me grow up! I’m not that kind of person. I could never do something like that! You have to believe me."
Mrs. Lynch coldly pulled her hand back. "No. Sometimes, even if you watch someone grow up, even after more than a decade together, you still can’t see their true face. I was blind and foolish, deceived for over ten years. My judgment has been terrible for a decade straight, so I don’t dare make assumptions about anyone anymore."
"Aunt?" Cassandra Lynch’s face was a mask of disbelief. She then turned to Zane Lynch.
The hairs on the back of Zane Lynch’s neck stood on end. "Don’t look at me, and don’t call me brother. I can’t bear the title."
Cassandra Lynch’s face twitched violently. She pinned her last hope on Melody Lynch, who had just returned to the country.
Seeing this, Melody Lynch sneered, pulled out her phone, and opened a file.
The moment a voice sounded from the phone, the color drained completely from Cassandra Lynch’s face.
