I Read Their Tragic Fates, and My Family Reads My Mind?
Chapter 363: Children Don’t Lie
Chapter 363: Chapter 363: Children Don’t Lie
When Arabella Donovan made this accusation, the room erupted in another uproar.
A four-year-old child with such a manipulative and vengeful heart... It was just too much...
The Lynch family, sitting nearby, stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
Eloise Donovan looked from one person to another, then asked tentatively, "Do you... remember this?"
"...Yes."
Cassandra Lynch had only been four at the time, so the recollection of the incident fell entirely to the adults.
Mrs. Lynch struggled to recall the situation, her expression turning awkward. "I remember we did fire a maid for breaking a vase back then. She was a young woman in her early twenties with her hair in a small ponytail. Your father and I heard the crash and rushed over to find the vase shattered on the floor. Both the maid and Cassandra were there. At the time, the young woman kept trying to explain to us that she wasn’t the one who broke it. But..."
Mr. Lynch sighed and finished her sentence, "But Cassandra pointed the finger at her on the spot."
"So you chose to believe Cassandra Lynch and fired her?"
"Yes."
They didn’t have security cameras in the house back then, so the only evidence was Cassandra Lynch’s accusation.
Many people fall into the trap of thinking that children don’t lie, so the two elders barely hesitated before choosing to believe ’their’ child.
Of course, they wouldn’t have fired someone just for breaking a single vase.
The main reason they decided to let her go was that even after Cassandra Lynch accused her, the young maid insisted she was innocent. Mr. and Mrs. Lynch felt she was being dishonest. On top of that, since Cassandra herself had made the accusation, they were afraid that if they kept the maid, she might hold a grudge against Cassandra and try to harm her.
Therefore, after weighing all these factors, they ultimately fired the maid.
Now, learning the truth, the couple was both shocked and filled with regret.
When Cassandra Lynch heard Arabella bring this up, she swayed, her eyes wide with the terrified expression of someone who had just seen a ghost.
She knew better than anyone that only she and the maid she had framed knew the truth of what happened that day. Even the Lynch family had been kept in the dark.
’Even my own memory of it is hazy. I only vaguely remember the gist of it. How could an outsider like Arabella possibly know?’
However, before Cassandra could make sense of it, Arabella quickly proved that this was only the beginning.
"Because of your health, the Lynch family was worried about you being away from home for too long, so they didn’t send you to kindergarten. Instead, they arranged for private tutors to come to the house. But they were also worried you’d be lonely at home with no friends, so they often invited the children of relatives and business partners over to visit."
"When you were seven, you couldn’t stand that the son of a family friend—a real social butterfly—was more popular than you. So, you deliberately had someone lure him into the back garden, causing him to fall from a high place and break his leg."
"On your eighth birthday, you found out that a girl two years your senior had a crush on a boy you also liked. You deliberately framed her for stealing from you, then provoked her when the boy was present so she would attack you. Your goal was to have the boy defend you so you could flaunt your victory over her."
"At eight and a half, trying to win the affection of a certain boy, you orchestrated a whole ’damsel saving the hero’ drama. But something went wrong. An extra person showed up, and because of your scheme, the boy’s younger sister was left with a lifelong disability. Afterward, worried you’d be found out and blamed, you turned around and pinned the responsibility on the person who had actually saved the two siblings, even stealing the credit for their rescue."
Arabella paused here, sighing to herself.
’No wonder she came up with the idea of having Howard Gallagher pose as my cousin’s savior to get close to her, scheme against her, and take revenge. It turns out she’s been pulling these kinds of tricks since she was a child.’
As Arabella unearthed these incidents one by one, the other customers in the cafe were left dumbfounded, their eyes wide in astonishment.
"She did all these vicious things before she was even ten? What was I doing at ten? Probably still playing in the mud! To know how to plot against and harm people at such a young age, with such a devious mind... This woman must be a bad seed, right?"
"That’s terrifying. Just the thought of having someone like that in my life is enough to give me nightmares."
Cassandra was in a complete panic now. One or two incidents could be a coincidence, but having so many past secrets—things she believed no one else knew—dragged into the light was an immense shock. The overwhelming terror made her feel dizzy, as if the sky were falling.
But Arabella wasn’t about to let her faint, and she certainly wasn’t going to let her off the hook.
"Next, I’ll talk about what I mentioned earlier. Six years ago, when you were thirteen, you were jealous of the affection the family elders showed your cousin in name, Melody Lynch. You happened to find out that two new security guards at your school were actually fugitives on the run with fake identities, and a daring idea began to form in your mind."
"You deliberately arranged for someone to mention Melody Lynch’s identity as the young heiress of the Lynch family in front of those two guards, letting them know her family was rich—very rich. Then, you intentionally sent away the bodyguard and driver who took you and Melody to school, leaving her alone and leading the two guards to kidnap her..."
As soon as these words were spoken, the faces of many people in the room changed, especially the young man who had just helped confirm the Lynch family’s switched-at-birth situation.
The Lynch family lived nearby, and most of the people in the same residential area belonged to the same social circle. Naturally, they had heard about Melody Lynch’s kidnapping.
"Before this, everyone thought the kidnapping of the Lynch heiress was a random incident. I never imagined..."
You could tell this young woman came from a happy, well-off family and hadn’t suffered many hardships. Suddenly learning this, she felt as if her entire worldview was collapsing.
"The Lynch family never broadcasted their doting affection for her, but anyone with eyes could see it. And it turns out, after raising her for so many years, they were just nurturing an ungrateful wretch who would bite the hand that fed her. If it were me, I wouldn’t just cut her off for life—I’d probably want to kill her."
"No, that’s not true! You’re lying!" Cassandra cried out, her eyes turning red. "You don’t have any proof, so how can you just slander an innocent person? I know you prefer Eloise Donovan, a rich young lady just like you, over a girl from a poor family like me. But you can’t just make up these lies to ruin my reputation! Just because you’re rich and powerful, you think you can trample on and humiliate honest, hardworking ordinary people who are just trying to survive? You’ve gone too far!"
