Chapter 73: Chapter 72: Excuse Me, Big Treasure, How Does It Feel to Get Rich Overnight?
At two in the morning, the glass door to the terrace slid open silently.
A cool breeze swept into the room.
Shu Yao couldn’t help but hug the warm and soft Xiao Juzi in her arms a little tighter.
Xiao Juzi was sleeping soundly in his mother’s arms, completely unaware that someone else had joined them.
The man furrowed his brow as he stared at the little bundle, a flash of displeasure in his dark green eyes. He reached out, pinched a corner of the child’s fluffy pajamas, and lifted the entire bundle, stuffing him into the sleep pod.
Xiao Juzi grumbled in dissatisfaction. His little hands clenched into fists as if trying to grab onto something, and his bare little toes curled. Then, he rolled over in the sleep pod and fell silent, leaving only the sound of his even breathing.
After cramming a pile of study materials before bed, Shu Yao’s nerves had been wound tight and her temples were throbbing. Unable to take it anymore, she had simply collapsed into sleep.
In her drowsy state, a familiar, cool fragrance invaded her senses, threatening to conquer her body and soul in an instant.
A pair of cool, thin lips lingered on the side of her neck, sending shivers through her like a faint electric current.
"Mmm..."
The woman’s sleepy, muffled moan ignited the man’s burning gaze.
"Yaoyao..." The man’s voice was hoarse and restrained, his reason on the verge of collapsing.
Shu Yao groggily cupped his face. "You’re here. I’ll go make you a late-night snack."
Qin Shiwei tenderly pressed kisses to her fingertips, her palm, and her slender wrist.
Seeing she was too sleepy to even open her eyes, the man pulled back and whispered, "I’ve already eaten. Go back to sleep."
"Mmm," Shu Yao mumbled, her head sinking back into the pillow as she drifted off again.
After changing into his pajamas, he lay down on his side next to her. Qin Shiwei gently draped an arm over her, holding her close as he gradually closed his eyes.
When she woke up early the next morning, the space beside her was empty. Shu Yao knew he had been there.
She stared blankly at the floor-to-ceiling window for a while.
’Qin Shiwei promised to help me study, but he seems so busy lately...’
The voice of her Light Brain interrupted her thoughts. "Master, you have a message from Teacher Wei."
Teacher Wei: "Shu, as your homeroom teacher, I sincerely advise you to make the most of these next two months and come to campus to study. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can always find a teacher..."
Shu Yao pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed.
’I’m already a mother, and I still have to take college entrance exams. This is just absurd!’
She picked up Xiao Juzi, who was still snoring away in his sleep pod, and carried him to Shu Xin’s room.
After washing up, Shu Yao was heading out with a sandwich when she ran into Shu Chao Yu, who was just getting back from his night shift.
Shu Chao Yu seemed quite energetic. "Hey, sweetheart, you’re up early. Where are you off to?"
"...To school," Shu Yao said. "There’s breakfast in the warming cabinet. Remember to save some for Xiao Juzi and Mom."
Shu Chao Yu’s eyes lit up.
Remembering last night’s events, he cupped his hand like a microphone and interviewed her in a teasingly sour tone, "So, tell me, sweetheart, what does it feel like... to get rich overnight?"
Shu Yao: "..."
The income from last night had indeed thrown her for a loop, especially for someone who once had a net worth in the billions. But now, she was quite composed.
"Don’t tell Mom."
Shu Xin still thought her live streaming was just a minor hobby. She was terrified that her long-lost daughter, now that she had money, would up and leave again.
Shu Chao Yu made a zipping motion across his lips, promising to keep it a secret.
After watching his grand-niece board the Flying Machine, he turned and skipped back into the house. Humming a little tune, he took some omurice and fish soup out of the warming cabinet.
Xiao Juzi rubbed his sleepy eyes with his little hands and came pattering over on his bare feet.
"Grand-uncle, where’s my mommy?"
Shu Chao Yu picked up his little grand-nephew and gave him a cuddle.
"Your mommy went to school!"
Xiao Juzi’s lower lip trembled, his eyes welling up with tears. "Mommy left me again..."
"Mommy loves you so much, she would never leave you!" Shu Chao Yu explained in a way the boy could understand. "If she doesn’t go to school, lots of people will call her a dummy. Do you want that?"
Xiao Juzi puffed out his cheeks in anger, clenching his little fists and punching the air.
"If anyone dares call Mommy names, I’ll beat them up!"
"You’re such a good boy! How about Grand-uncle feeds you?"
Xiao Juzi shook his head and said sensibly, "Mommy says that good boys eat all by themselves!"
Shu Chao Yu couldn’t resist giving him a big smooch. His heart ached for the little Zaizai, but he also felt incredibly proud.
’Shu Yao really raised this little guy well.’
