Chapter 63: Chapter 63: I’ve Only Said Words Like This to My Husband
Shu Yao turned on the bedroom light and found the man staring darkly at her.
Inside the sleep pod, Xiao Juzi, suddenly disturbed by the light, frowned in his sleep and let out an uneasy whimper.
Shu Yao quickly dimmed the light.
She breathed a sigh of relief only when her son’s breathing evened out and his brow unfurrowed.
Qin Shiwei said with a hint of displeasure, "You spoil him too much."
"I’m overflowing with motherly love," Shu Yao said with a smile. "If I’m not going to dote on my own son, am I supposed to go dote on someone else’s child?"
Qin Shiwei: "..."
Shu Yao asked with concern, "You worked so late. Have you eaten?"
Qin Shiwei thought for a moment. He vaguely remembered eating something at some trendy restaurant...
"Wait for me a second." Shu Yao quietly slipped out of the room.
The man’s gaze followed her, and even after she was out of sight, it lingered on the doorway.
Before long, Shu Yao returned, carrying a bowl of spinach noodles in fish broth and a side of pan-fried crispy fish.
As if he’d smelled the food, Xiao Juzi’s nose twitched a few times inside the sleep pod.
Shu Yao immediately carried the food out to the terrace, beckoning Qin Shiwei to follow with a single look.
The terrace was bare. She placed the food on the wide top of the railing.
"Darling, come try my cooking."
The fish broth noodles had been kept in a thermal container, so they were still steaming hot.
The best chefs in the entire Federation served the Imperial Family, so in his thirty-two years, Qin Shiwei had tasted delicacies others could only dream of. But as for the bowl of noodles before him now, he didn’t need to taste it; he could tell just by the sight and smell that it would be magnificent.
Most importantly, this bowl of noodles was made by his Yaoyao.
He lifted a green noodle to his lips. His dark green eyes suddenly lit up, and he asked in disbelief, "Did you really make this?"
Shu Yao looked a little smug. "Who else?"
Qin Shiwei suddenly leaned in and gave her a quick peck on the lips. "Amazing."
He savored the warmth and softness of her lips, yet made no further move. In an act of restraint, he pressed his own cool, thin lips together, his gaze growing so dark it seemed he wanted to devour her whole.
A brewing, intimate tension began to quietly overpower the aroma of the food.
Shu Yao turned her head away. Any longer, and she wasn’t sure she could resist the handsome man before her.
"Ahem, stop flirting." She gave a light cough to hide her bashfulness. "Hurry up and eat. It won’t taste as good if it gets cold."
Qin Shiwei also regained his composure.
"It’s late. You should go to bed," he said calmly. "There’s a curfew outside. I’ll leave at dawn."
"If you can’t leave, you might as well just stay here." Shu Yao glanced behind her. "It’s not like my bed isn’t big enough for someone your size."
The depths of Qin Shiwei’s eyes darkened again. "Do you have any idea what it means when you say something like that to a man?"
"I’ve only ever said things like that to my husband."
Hearing this, the man froze for a second. It was as if a flash flood had erupted in the depths of his eyes, while a wild beast rampaged in his chest.
Shu Yao said in a deadpan voice, "But don’t you get any funny ideas. I’m just innocently offering you a place to stay for the night."
The burning heat in Qin Shiwei’s eyes did not diminish.
He had only meant to come see her tonight, then use the curfew as an excuse to stay. He had assumed Shu Yao would be distant, that she would reject his indirect attempts to get closer.
But he was discovering that the woman he had searched for for three years... perhaps she felt the same way.
’The body follows where the heart leads!’
He was suddenly filled with regret—regret that they had been separated for so long!
"Yaoyao, in these past three years, did you never once think of looking for me?"
