Chapter 39: Chapter 39: There’s No Way That Trashy Woman Has Evidence

"Mr. Lin, please calm yourself." Yudola soothed Lin Yaodong, then turned to Shu Yao with a stern expression. "Miss Shu, if you suspect the surveillance footage has been falsified, then present your evidence!"

She stressed in a cold, hard tone, "I want convincing, iron-clad proof, not your ambiguous and vague posturing!"

’That piece of trash couldn’t possibly have any evidence!’

’Everything she said and did just now was just an attempt to throw the Lin Family into disarray!’

So Lin Zhenxiang thought to herself, reminding herself that the most crucial thing right now was her own performance.

She sat up straight and looked at Shu Yao with a composed expression, doing her best to project an air of someone with a clear conscience.

Shu Yao watched the looping surveillance footage, the corners of her lips curling into a smirk.

"It’s true that Miss Lin and Mrs. Lin aren’t in the video. Even their shadows on the ground were carefully erased. But shadows don’t only appear on the ground."

She raised her hand and pointed at the screen.

"As the Federation’s number-one medical institution, I’m sure everyone is familiar with Imperial Hospital. At the entrance, there’s a tall, square monument made of some unknown metal. Its four smooth sides are just like mirrors—"

At her cue, the video zoomed in on the monument engraved with the name "Imperial Hospital."

Amid a chorus of gasps, an uneasy Lin Zhenxiang quickly looked at the screen. A second later, her pupils contracted violently.

Just as she’d feared, she saw the reflection of herself and her mother, Zhen Zhen, on the monument’s mirror-like surface!

Her own pale face and wretched appearance, along with her mother’s snarling, hideous expression, were clearly reflected on the monument.

The light, distorted by the reflective surface, seemed to form a mocking curve even more jarring than the cold smile currently on Shu Yao’s lips.

The color drained from Lin Zhenxiang’s face, leaving her complexion even more ghastly pale than it had been at the hospital entrance that day.

She lowered her head, lips pressed into a thin line, not daring to meet anyone’s eye. But she could feel their strange, judgmental stares, pricking her skin like a thousand tiny needles.

Suddenly, a hand rested on the back of her chair.

Lin Zhenxiang flinched, her face growing another shade paler. She hadn’t even realized Shu Yao had come to stand behind her.

"Let me make one thing clear: I never touched this footage. You’re the ones who brought it up as evidence. My, my, colluding with an interstellar hacker... I wonder how serious a crime that is." Shu Yao held up her hands, feigning innocence.

She continued, her tone feigning sympathy.

"You got food poisoning from the fish at your own family’s restaurant. But to keep people from thinking there was something wrong with the fish, you endured the pain and refused to go to the hospital. You even had an interstellar hacker tamper with the hospital’s surveillance system. You’ve really been through a lot, haven’t you?

You wanted to divert attention from the food safety issue, so you used your influence to shift the focus onto me and my son. Why aren’t you acting all aggrieved now?

Playing the victim to put others in an awkward position... isn’t that your signature move, Miss Lin?"

The panic in Lin Zhenxiang’s eyes became impossible to hide. As her unease grew, she couldn’t understand. ’How could all her careful planning have been for nothing?!’

Shu Yao lowered her voice, her tone laced with faux pity. "Once you tell one lie, you have to spin a thousand more to cover it up. And every lie has a flaw. Besides, you didn’t just use one lie to fool everyone."

Zhen Zhen slammed her hand on the table and shot to her feet, shouting, "Xiangxiang, don’t say a word! Wait for the lawyer!"

’A lawyer?’

’Does she think this is a courtroom?’

Shu Yao had to stop herself from laughing.
