Chapter 102: Chapter 100: As Expected, It’s Mrs. Bao’s Kitchen
"Of course I know!" Jiang Fei said excitedly. "Yuanyuan and I even donated to get her to open up more tasting slots! Between the two of us, we donated over twenty million, and there were a few other big spenders too! I’m the one who discovered this hidden gem of a streamer first! Oh my god, I can’t believe she’s one of us! One of us! I want to eat fish! I want the pan-fried crispy fish bits! I want to drink the fish soup!"
He had always regretted failing to snag a tasting slot last time.
But luckily, he’d actually found out Mrs. Bao’s real identity in the real world!
’Now I have a place to get free food!’
Shu Chao Yu suddenly felt a pang of regret for inviting them over.
Unable to fend off the pestering Jiang Fei, Shu Chao Yu led them to the kitchen.
Seeing the clean bowls and plates they brought back, Shu Yao was a little surprised. "They’re so clean."
’A rich heir and the son of an official... they didn’t seem like the type who would do housework.’
"They didn’t wash them," Shu Chao Yu teased. "They just licked them clean, right?"
Yuan Ju and Jiang Fei both looked a little embarrassed.
Jiang Fei looked all around the kitchen. Recognizing the familiar setting, he exclaimed in delight, "It really is Mrs. Bao’s kitchen!"
Shu Chao Yu explained to Shu Yao, "It just so happens that these two are your fans."
Meanwhile, Jiang Fei was still clamoring, "The limited-edition model was modified so creatively! Mrs. Bao, you’re so talented!"
’Creatively? More like wastefully!’ Shu Chao Yu was furious but didn’t dare say it out loud.
Yuan Ju shot him a meaningful look. "The tea."
"Oh, right!" Shu Chao Yu finally remembered. "Yaoyao, where did you buy the tea you brewed today?"
Shu Yao said, "It’s from the batch your friend gave you."
"Impossible." Yuan Ju didn’t want to admit it, but he had to be clear if he wanted answers. "The tea brewed from the leaves I delivered last night wasn’t this good."
Shu Yao corrected him. "What you brought yesterday were fresh, unprocessed leaves. They’re the raw material for making tea, you could say."
She took out a small, sealed canister and handed it over.
Yuan Ju opened the lid.
The rich aroma of tea wafted out.
Inside the small canister were dark, dried tea leaves, not the fresh green leaves he had delivered yesterday.
The dry leaves rustled inside the canister as he gave it a gentle shake.
"I fermented and processed these. *This* is proper tea. When you brew this, it isn’t so bitter," Shu Yao said. "About a pound of fresh leaves yielded around 150 grams of dried tea. I used some today for brewing and to make the tea eggs."
There was only about 50 grams left now.
Shu Yao said, "I’m about to make some milk tea. Do you want to try some?"
Jiang Fei nodded eagerly.
Shu Yao put a skillet on the smart stove, turning it on low. She added three spoonfuls of white sugar to the pan, followed by a pinch of tea leaves from the canister.
’The already small supply of tea was now pitifully depleted!’
Yuan Ju’s expression soured. His heart ached at the sight.
The white sugar in the pan melted, slowly turning a caramel color and bubbling with fine white foam. The previously dry tea leaves began to unfurl in the syrup.
At that moment, the aroma of tea mingled with the rich, sweet scent of caramel.
Shu Chao Yu and Jiang Fei’s mouths were already watering.
Yuan Ju watched the changes in the skillet with rapt attention.
Shu Yao added some water to the pan.
The caramel syrup was instantly diluted.
She then poured two bottles of milk into the pan and turned up the heat. Once the mixture came to a boil, she shut off the stove and strained out the tea leaves.
Shu Yao poured the milk tea into three cups.
The whole process took about ten minutes.
"It’s ready to drink just like that?" Yuan Ju asked, finding it hard to believe.
Jiang Fei eagerly took a sip, then immediately hissed, the hot liquid scalding his tongue. "Yuanyuan," he exclaimed, his words slightly slurred, "this is way better than the milk tea from your family’s shop!"
’How did Yuan Ju’s family get the tea flavor for their milk tea? They just threw fresh leaves into a blender, pulverized them, and then mixed the bits with milk...’
’Only after learning about that process did Shu Yao understand why the milk tea she drank yesterday not only tasted bad but also had such a weird color.’
Yuan Ju was captivated by the taste of the milk tea Shu Yao had made.
"This recipe..." Yuan Ju asked, testing the waters, "can I buy it?"
