Chapter 666: Chapter 666 Staring Mysteriously at the Sky So They Think I’m Deep

The bad hearted cultivator glanced at another student who was surrounded by faint spiritual fluctuations. Then he looked at himself. Nothing. Not even the slightest sensation.

He could not understand it.

"Why am I not among the people receiving enlightenment?" The question nearly came out as a shout. He was genuinely angry.

He had come here specifically because Lin Feng was famous throughout the academy. He had expected that listening to the Medicine King personally teach would bring him some sort of benefit.

Yet thousands of people around him were experiencing breakthroughs while he received absolutely nothing. Was there something wrong with Lin Feng’s teaching?

Or was there something wrong with him? The more he thought about it, the more frustrated he became.

His face reddened slightly, and for a moment he wanted to stand up and demand an explanation. But his reason ultimately prevailed. He knew that making a scene here would be foolish.

If he stood up and shouted that Lin Feng’s teaching was unfair, fifty thousand students would immediately turn their attention toward him.

And if he embarrassed himself in front of all those people, he would become the laughingstock of the academy. The thirty-year-old cultivator took several deep breaths and forced himself to calm down.

"Forget it." He clenched his teeth.

"Perhaps the enlightenment hasn’t reached me yet." He told himself that repeatedly. But deep inside, another thought had already begun to take root.

Why them? Why not me? He looked around once more. Everywhere he looked, people were benefiting from Lin Feng’s words. Only he seemed to have been left behind.

Unbeknownst to him, however, the problem had never been Lin Feng. The opportunity was already in front of him. Whether he could grasp it was another matter entirely.

Even if he had failed to receive the enlightenment, there was one thing this man absolutely could not afford to lose.

His face.

For a cultivator, admitting that everyone around him had received a miraculous opportunity while he had received absolutely nothing was simply too embarrassing.

He would rather lose all four limbs than openly admit that he had failed to comprehend Lin Feng’s teaching. After all, there were more than fifty thousand people present.

If he openly admitted that he had gained nothing from Lin Feng’s words, wouldn’t everyone look down on him?

Absolutely not!

He could endure physical pain. He could endure losing treasures. But losing face in front of fifty thousand fellow cultivators?

That was unacceptable.

"Hmmm..." The thirty-year-old cultivator suddenly closed his eyes. His expression became solemn. He straightened his back and crossed his legs properly, making himself look as dignified as possible.

He even deliberately slowed his breathing. Anyone looking at him would have thought that he had entered an incredibly profound state of meditation.

In reality, his mind was completely different.

I need to look like I’m enlightened. He desperately tried to calm himself.

That’s right. Just meditate. Nobody will know. He focused on his breathing.

One breath.

Two breaths.

Three breaths.

For a few seconds, he actually managed to convince himself that this might work. Unfortunately, curiosity was far stronger than his concentration. What exactly were the others experiencing?

How profound was their enlightenment? Had anyone broken through again? Had someone comprehended a new technique? Had someone obtained an opportunity greater than his?

The questions tortured him. His eyelids began trembling. He resisted. He absolutely had to resist. But eventually, he could not take it anymore. Very slowly, he opened one eye. Just a little.

He peeked at the students around him. The sight immediately made him regret opening his eye. Everywhere he looked, students were still sitting in meditation.

Some had peaceful expressions. Some were trembling with excitement. Some had spiritual energy swirling around their bodies. Some had tears of joy in their eyes.

A few had even begun breaking through their cultivation realms.

The man’s heart sank.

They’re still going! He quickly closed his eye again. But just as he was about to resume pretending, he suddenly sensed someone watching him. His heart skipped a beat. Slowly, he opened his eyes again.

And there it was. A few feet away sat another cultivator. That man was also sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed, looking every bit as profound as the others. Except one of his eyes was slightly open.

The two men stared directly at each other. For a brief moment, neither of them moved. They instantly understood. The other man wasn’t enlightened either!

He was pretending!

"You..." The thirty-year-old cultivator almost cursed aloud. The other man’s expression changed at exactly the same time.

"Shhhh..." Both men immediately slammed their eyes shut. They straightened their backs even more. Their faces became solemn. Their breathing became slower.

They resumed meditating with such exaggerated seriousness that anyone watching them might have assumed they had just comprehended one of the deepest truths of the Grand Dao.

Neither dared to look at the other again. They had reached an unspoken agreement.

I didn’t see you.

You didn’t see me.

We are both enlightened.

Understood.

And so, the two unfortunate cultivators continued sitting there. Pretending. Pretending that they were experiencing a miraculous enlightenment.

Pretending that their minds were being opened to profound truths. Pretending that their cultivation was about to undergo a transformation. When in reality, their minds were filled with only one thought.

Why am I not enlightened?!

Time passed. The enlightenment of the other students continued.

Ten minutes.

Twenty minutes.

Half an hour.

Yet the two men remained perfectly still. Neither dared move. Neither dared open his eyes. Neither dared admit defeat.

Around them, students occasionally experienced breakthroughs, causing waves of spiritual energy to ripple through the field.

Every time that happened, the two men would secretly become more miserable.

Another one!

Why is everyone getting enlightened except me?!

Their hearts were practically crying. But their faces remained calm and dignified. They had already committed themselves to the act. There was no turning back now.

If they suddenly stood up and admitted that they had been pretending the entire time, their reputations would be completely destroyed. So they could only continue.
