I Just Wanted Friends, But My Summons Keep Eating the Bosses (ND)
Chapter 152: Sacred Union
"So you guys were the wolves Argus talked about," Night said.
"Yes, we arrived here about a week ago," Rango replied.
"We were dropped inside this city, on the face of those Earth Spirits."
Night had guessed it from the memories. He just asked in case another group arrived before them.
He sook his head "We were greated by a bunch of baby spirits and their angry mothers or nannys, it seem it was a nursery or something, you don’t know how fast I ran, i am sort of alluregic to nurserys, it took a while to shake them off, those women run so fast"
He shivered a little when he recalled then then changed the subject immediately to cleanse his mind of that memory.
Rango scoffed. "At first I thought we were just unlucky to be dropped inside a city. But a while ago I caught the scent of Werewolf and the Vampires that came after us. It was then I realized they knew where we would end up and used us as cannon fodder to test the ground."
Night nodded. "Makes sense. Last time the dungeon gate opened inside a city too. That means the people from your world want to capture a city first."
Rango wore a confused expression, as if he struggled to understand things.
"Do you know why we are being invaded?" Night asked.
"Resources are the primary goal," Rango said. "Also to us this planet appears a lot stronger than it should be. In fact, it radiates more energy than the planets at the center of the Universe. Anything that radiates that must energy must have something special about it, so people at the centre of the Universe went nuts when they sensed it"
"So that is why our planet is being invaded," Night deduced. "How are you guys bypassing the System? It stops this kind of thing before the merger from what I have heard."
Rango paused, debating whether to spill the beans. Then he remembered they used him as bait and blurted the truth. "An Angel from the Solus Planet awakened a Dungeon based talent."
"An Angel? Are they not supposed to be kind beings?" Night guessed.
Rango sneered. "The ones that look kind do the greatest evil. That pigeon bastard claims he is kind and refuses to use the talent to invade your planet, but he has no issues letting others use it to come here."
Night frowned. "He is selling his services?" The moment he heard that, he realized the Angel treated this like a business. It would have been better if he had lead a crusade here.
Beside him, Lucy scowled.
"Yes. You guys were lucky that guy was still in his testing phases before," Rango said. "He failed many times to send people here. But I heard his success rate spiked after the Angel made an alliance with a Devil from our world who has a Space related talent."
Night gasped. "A Devil and an Angel working together?"
Rango clicked his tongue seeing the reaction "You are still too green. Some of these bastards would sell their mothers for quick cash."
Night exhaled a breath. "I see, only some of them." Lucy relaxed as well.
Rango burst his bubble. "While the rest would do it if the returns are great."
Night and Lucy stared at him with blank faces.
"In short, none of them are kind, good, or bad," Rango said. "It is only a front. If there is a benefit, they will bite regardless of their morals."
Rango declared in a dramatic tone, "After all, in the end, emotions fade while benefits endure."
Night kept quiet, but his thoughts raced faster than an airplane.
Night sighed. "I see. I will be careful." He turned to the wolves. "You guys can rest here. I will go deal with the others now. I lack any healing abilities, or else I would have helped you."
Rango glanced at his pack mates, then at Night. "You are going to fight them?"
Night grinned. "Yes. It is my city now. I cannot have people living here rent free."
Rani interrupted. "I think you underestimate them. We sensed the fluctuations during their fights. They should all be Demigods before the world suppressed them. And before that, most of them should be at least Nascent Soul realm in terms of cultivation."
They did not give a shit about the invaders from their own planet, but Night was different.
"Yes, but they are suppressed, so it should be a fair fight," Night reasoned.
"Even if you are confident, they have numbers on their side," Rango cautioned.
Night chuckled. "I also have numbers."
Rango studied him, glanced at his wife, and brought his gaze back to Night. Every movement brought him pain, but talking without moving his neck felt too strange.
"Then let us help you."
"Are you guys not injured?" Night asked.
Rango waved off the concern. "I have a way to recover to full health. I saved it in case those Earth Spirits attacked us."
Night raised his hand. "You should save it."
"No. If you go and get your ass handed to you, we will be stuck with no allies in this world," Rango argued. "This world is already hunting us. I refuse to get stranded here with my harem on this scary planet."
Night twitched as he eyed their broken bodies. "Just do not get in the way."
Dolly looked in better condition than them, and she was a voodoo doll.
Rango noticed Night’s disbelieving gaze.
He realized he needed to show Night the true vastness of the world.
Right in front of Night, Rango stood and howled. The howl lacked any majesty. If anything, it sounded like a teenage boy screaming in a high pitch like a girl.
Wearing unwilling expressions, his wives joined the howl.
Night felt like he was watching a terrible chorus.
Then, under his stunned gaze, the wives turned into beams of light one by one and merged with Rango’s body. As this happened, glowing runes appeared across his fur.
The injuries on his body healed at a visible rate as the wives kept merging into him. By the end, he achieved full recovery before the last wife even touched him.
Rango’s aura surged, growing stronger by the second.
It stopped only when it reached the peak of the Mortal Realm.
Rango clicked his tongue. "It seems even Sacred Union fails to break the suppression."
Night looked impressed. "Sacred Union? Is that the name of this technique?"
It felt similar to the Union Skill he received from the Summoner class, but that skill came with limitations with the number of people he could merged with and failed to heal injuries.
"Yes. Impressive, is it not?" Rango boasted. "My wives are resting in my Soul Space right now, and in this form, their healing is enhanced too. I can also use their skills as I please."
Can I do something similar? Night thought. But I can already use my frienda skills without doing something so dramatic.
He wanted to ask how Rango achieved it. Was it a skill or a technique? If it was a technique, could he learn it too...
He stopped himself. It was not the right time to pry into the wolf’s secrets. Maybe after the fight...
.....
Standing near at the base of a mountain were Argus, Jeffy and Teffy.
The wind blew, the surroundings trees swayed. The light from the sky fell on the mountain and trees covering them with a blanket of light shadows.
Argus stared at Jeffy and Teffy blankly.
The was ambiance suffocating, even the wind seems to avoid them unconsciously.
The Earth Spirit looked ready to grind them into mincemeat.
Argus struggled to suppress the urge to crush them, by throwing a mountain or two on them. He was not in the best of moods today. The attacks from the invaders had taken a toll on his mind that clung to him like dandruff clung to your hair during winter.
No shampoo could get rid of it.
Teffy could feel the heat coming from the Earth Spirit.
Sheesh. The pressure, Teffy thought. He wondered what took Night so long.
He preferred taking his chances with the invaders.
As if the gods had heard his silent pleas, the space in front of them split apart. Night, Lucy, and Rango jumped out of the spatial tear.
Argus glared at Rango but said nothing.
They had been enemies after all. They lacked reasons to speak.
But Jeffy and Teffy felt different.
"So you went to gather allies?" Jeffy asked, eyeing Rango. His posture stiffened when he sensed Rango stood at the Peak Mortal Realm, Level 100.
"Yes, I got lucky," Night replied.
Rango puffed his chest to introduce himself. "Yoooo... This Boss here is Rango, a Sky Wolf... woof." He ended his introduction with a small woff.
Jeffy stated, "I am Jeffy. A Summoner."
"I am Teffy, his summon," Teffy added, pointing at Jeffy.
Night, "Night. Summoner."
"Lucy. Fenrir," Lucy said.
Rango turned to Argus. The Earth Spirit remained silent.
Argus stared back. He planned to leave anyway and saw no point in pointless introductions.
But under Rango’s intense gaze, he sighed. "Argus. Leader of the Earth Spirit Clan."
Rango smirked. "Now that we finished the introductions, let us discuss how we will butcher the backstabbing bastards."
Argus stopped him before he could continue. "I am not joining."
Rango looked at him, and then turned to Night. "What is he doing here then?"
Rango had the look that said, what is this chicken wing doing in a vegan restaurant....
