Chapter 198 - 110: Warm Little Sun
Chapter 198: Chapter 110: Warm Little Sun
And it looked like she wasn’t wearing a bra, either.
"Hey, Mom, mind your image."
"Hey, Dad, you’re the one who should look away."
"You got it."
Chen Yuan turned and went back to the bedroom.
"You’re actually leaving?"
Jiang Wanyi wasn’t the type to make a fuss. They had already been intimate in that way before. Besides, these were special circumstances, and she was still clothed, so she didn’t bother with such trifles.
Chen Yuan chuckled, and the two of them went inside the playpen in the living room.
Jiang Wanyi went to a drawer in the TV stand and took out an ear pick.
She stepped into the playpen, leaned her back against the sofa, and stretched out her legs.
"It’s been a while since I cleaned your ears. Come here, let me do it for you."
"Alrighty."
Chen Yuan rested his head on Jiang Wanyi’s lap, smelling the pleasant fragrance of her body wash.
"Don’t you move. If I hurt you, it’s not my fault."
Chen Yuan closed his eyes and savored the moment as Jiang Wanyi leaned over him, carefully cleaning his ears.
"I think I’ll come over tonight, too."
"Huh?"
She gave Chen Yuan a light slap. "What are you thinking? We have to wean her off night feedings today. It’s going to be exhausting, so I can take over for a bit while you get some rest."
"No need. You’re still recovering. You should just get a good night’s sleep. Leave the rest to me."
With the boost from his 100% Affinity, coaxing her to sleep would be much easier, even without a night feeding. That might not be the case for Jiang Wanyi, so it was better if he handled it himself.
"Well, it’ll be tough on you tonight, then."
"It’s no big deal. She should get used to it in a few days."
"Mm."
"The baby has her vaccinations on Thursday, right?"
Jiang Wanyi nodded. "If you’re busy, you don’t have to come. I can handle her by myself."
"It’ll be easier for you if I’m there. I’ll come find you."
"Mm."
’I don’t know when it started,’ Jiang Wanyi thought, ’but it feels like I want Chen Yuan with me for everything, want him to be the one to make decisions.’
’But at the same time, I feel so conflicted, so torn, because I’m afraid of holding him back.’
"Alright, turn over, you dirty boy."
Chen Yuan contentedly rolled over, now facing Jiang Wanyi’s stomach.
As she bent over, the soft flesh on her belly folded together. He reached out and poked it; the feel of it was surprisingly good.
"You’re so annoying. I know I have a tummy, so stop poking it."
Jiang Wanyi was a little embarrassed but didn’t stop him, patiently continuing to clean his ear.
A few minutes later, she wiped it clean with a wet wipe.
"Alright, it’s getting late. Go get some rest."
"Mm."
Chen Yuan got up and stretched a bit. Jiang Wanyi asked, "What do you want to eat tomorrow?"
"I’m craving your seafood noodles."
"Okay, I’ll make them for you when I get up tomorrow."
They went back to their respective rooms. Standing at her doorway, Jiang Wanyi smiled at Chen Yuan.
"Good night, Daddy. You worked hard."
"You worked hard too, Mommy."
Back in his room, Chen Yuan quickly fell asleep.
He didn’t wake again until he heard little Mili’s cries.
He checked the time on his phone. It was already past four in the morning. Dawn was breaking, and a faint light glowed outside.
He’d woken up more than two hours later than usual, which was a huge improvement.
"Mili, don’t cry. Daddy’s here to hold you."
He took the baby in his arms, placed a toy he’d prepared in her hand, and began to softly hum a nursery rhyme, trying to soothe her.
But little Mili didn’t stop crying. She was used to her night feeding, and simply being comforted wasn’t very effective.
After all, his 100% Affinity wasn’t a cry-silencer; she wasn’t going to stop crying the instant he held her.
Just then, footsteps sounded from outside the door, and Jiang Wanyi walked in, her hair a mess.
The moment she saw that Chen Yuan already had the baby, she was instantly relieved.
She had been worried about both Chen Yuan and the baby all night and hadn’t slept as soundly as usual. The second she heard crying, she had jumped out of bed.
Chen Yuan made a hushing gesture, then continued singing the nursery rhyme to lull the baby to sleep.
Tiptoeing, Jiang Wanyi moved to his side and spoke in a soft, gentle voice, trying to help soothe little Mili.
But with Chen Yuan there, she wasn’t much help.
Gradually, drowsiness washed over her, and she slowly closed her eyes there beside him.
Before long, little Mili also calmed down, her cries softening significantly.
The whole process took ten-odd minutes before the baby slowly drifted off to sleep.
He turned to look at Jiang Wanyi and saw that she had fallen asleep on his other side as well.
He shifted their positions, placed the baby between them, and went back to sleep himself.
Some time later, Jiang Wanyi’s eyes suddenly flew open.
Seeing the baby sleeping between them, her mind instantly cleared.
Earlier, when Chen Yuan was comforting the baby, she couldn’t help, and she’d gotten drowsy just watching him.
She had only meant to rest her eyes for a minute or two, but when she opened them again, it was already past six in the morning.
She scratched her head. ’I could cry from my own stupidity.’
’I came over to help, but not only was I useless, I actually made things worse. He must have been so uncomfortable, all curled up sleeping like that.’
’It really seems like all I do is cause trouble.’
Quietly, Jiang Wanyi climbed out of bed and pulled the blanket over Chen Yuan.
’He works so, so hard...’
Filled with guilt but helpless to do anything about it, Jiang Wanyi sighed and left the room.
As she closed the door, she couldn’t resist one last look back.
For once, her gaze didn’t fall on the baby first, but on Chen Yuan.
Outside, the day had grown bright. A crimson sun had risen into the sky, its rays illuminating this city, teeming with people.
This vast land was bathed in the light of the sun.
’And in my own life, I have a small, warm sun, too, shining on me at every moment.’
’Thank you. And thank you, fate... ’
