Chapter 195: Chapter 109: I Want to Wean Her Off Night Feedings

"She can’t drink that," Chen Yuan immediately interjected.

"Soy products have a relatively high amount of estrogen, especially homemade soy milk. Little girls shouldn’t drink it too early, as it can cause them to develop prematurely."

"Is that really a thing? I loved drinking it when I was little."

"Uh..."

He tilted his head slightly and glanced at Jiang Wanyi.

"I can tell..."

’He can tell?’

She looked down at her chest, then shot him a flirtatious glare.

"I’m going to pinch you. Now get back to work."

Chen Yuan chuckled and took out the soybeans. "Leaving these here isn’t going to work. Let’s find a place for them inside. You can drink as much as you want. The little one can’t, but a grown woman like you can."

"Okay," Jiang Wanyi agreed with a smile.

Besides the soybeans, there were some random odds and ends, which Chen Yuan also gathered. Jiang Wanyi sat on a cardboard box, quietly watching him.

After spending so much time together, she felt she understood Chen Yuan pretty well. Despite his many good qualities, in some ways, he was just like other men, with a sloppy and unhygienic side.

But at other times, he was exceptionally neat and efficient.

Just like now, tidying everything up so meticulously, not seeming tired at all.

’Even I probably couldn’t have gotten it this clean.’

The corners of Jiang Wanyi’s mouth lifted. In that moment, her peaceful life had become more interesting.

DING DONG—

Just then, the elevator doors opened, shattering Jiang Wanyi’s pleasant reverie.

She glanced back and saw an elderly woman with salt-and-pepper hair. Jiang Wanyi stood up from the cardboard box.

"Ma’am, everything’s right here. I’ve packed it up for you."

The elderly woman looked at the items on the floor, her face expressionless. "Is this it? There’s nothing else?"

"This is all we’ve saved up this time. I’ll call you again when we have more."

"You should save up more next time. If I’d known it was just this little, I wouldn’t have bothered coming."

There was a hint of complaint in the elderly woman’s voice. Annoyed at how little there was, she reluctantly reached for the cardboard boxes.

"What did you just say?"

Chen Yuan walked out of the stairwell, glaring at the old woman with a dark expression.

"I-I didn’t say anything. I’ll be going now. You two carry on," the old woman said with a placating smile.

"Put the items down. They’re not for you anymore."

"Young man, please listen. I didn’t mean anything by it. Don’t hold it against an old woman like me."

The old woman kept her placating smile, reaching out to press the elevator button and putting some distance between herself and Chen Yuan.

"What does your age have to do with anything? I told you to put the items down. You can’t have them."

The old woman’s expression was awkward. She stood frozen, not wanting to put the items down but not daring to leave. She cast a pleading look toward Jiang Wanyi.

Jiang Wanyi said nothing, her face blank, and simply wheeled the stroller to one side.

She was a little angry too.

Seeing that Jiang Wanyi was ignoring her, the old woman could only awkwardly put the items down before turning and stepping into the elevator.

"That’s a first. Talk about beggars being choosers."

"The last few times, I just called her, and she came to pick things up. We haven’t interacted much. I never expected she was this kind of person."

"It’s the old saying: ’A pint of rice is a kindness, but a bushel breeds a grudge.’ Some people are just like that. Go ahead and delete her number. We’re better off throwing this stuff out than giving it to her."

"Okay."

After they finished packing everything, they brought the toys and soybeans inside. The bundled cardboard boxes were left in the hallway to be sold later.

"I’ll leave sorting the toys to you. I’m going to start dinner," Jiang Wanyi said, tying on her apron.

"Okay."

Chen Yuan put the baby in her playpen and dumped out a large bag of toys, then looked at what was already inside.

Little Mili already had more than enough toys. They wouldn’t have much use for this big bag of them.

He took a few photos, planning to sell them off cheap as a bundle.

"Where did you buy the kiddie rocker? Send me a screenshot of the payment."

"On JD.com. My phone’s on the dining table. Just find it yourself. The password is 6999."

"Alright."

Chen Yuan went to the dining table, grabbed the phone, and found the purchase history.

Holy cow!

She’d spent over 1,000!

He searched for similar products online. Like-new ones were selling for around 600 to 800.

The one Wanyi had was barely used. It didn’t even show any signs of wear and was practically brand new. He figured it would be a breeze to sell it for 700.

As for the pile of toys, it was impossible to estimate a price, so he decided to just bundle them for 99. If no one wanted them, he’d lower the price.

"Kiddie rocker for 700, this bag of toys for 99. Any problem with that?" Chen Yuan called out to Jiang Wanyi in the kitchen.

"No problem. You decide."

He picked up the phone and continued setting up the post.

"Price firm. Local pickup only. All sales final. No haggling. Buy it now if you like it."

After typing out the description, Chen Yuan tossed the phone aside.

Once everything was taken care of, Chen Yuan lay down in the playpen and played with Little Mili.

"Mili, fetch the little ducky."

Little Mili didn’t say a word, just crawled over and brought it back. Chen Yuan had her do it a few more times until she got tired of the game and plopped down on the floor, refusing to move. Only then did Chen Yuan stop.

"Dinner’s ready. Come and eat."

Jiang Wanyi brought the food to the table. Chen Yuan carried the baby over and put her in her high chair.

There was shredded pork in garlic sauce, scrambled eggs with tomato, and some chicken wings she’d made in the air fryer—all perfect dishes to eat with rice.

BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ...

During dinner, his phone buzzed a few times. Someone had bought the kiddie rocker.

’So, there are people who know a good deal when they see one.’

After exchanging a few messages, they easily sealed the deal.

"The buyer wanted the toys too. They talked me down another 30, so we recouped 760."

"I can’t believe it sold for that much!"

"This was already a steal. If we weren’t in a hurry, we could have left the listing up longer and probably gotten 800 for it."

"It was just taking up space. It’s good to have it gone."

Chen Yuan nodded, sent the buyer his location, and told them to come over in half an hour.

Jiang Wanyi was once again struck by how capable Chen Yuan was. She knew she could never have handled all this on her own.

"Mili is nine months old now. I think we can start weaning her off night feedings," Chen Yuan said.

"I was just thinking about that. I’ve seen other kids get weaned at seven or eight months. I tried it before, but she cried so hard at night that I couldn’t go through with it."

Jiang Wanyi said, her heart aching,

"If you ask me to do it, I’ll never have the heart for it. This mission is all yours."

"I’m her dad. I don’t have the heart for it either."

"No way. You have to be the tough one. We need to balance each other out. In any case, this is your job now."

"We can’t just force her to quit. We need to use a little strategy."

"What’s the strategy, you ask? I already had her crawl around in the playpen for a bit. We’ll have her do it again tonight to wear her out. For her last feeding before bed, we’ll give her a little extra. That should help her last longer through the night."

"I’ll pump some ahead of time for you to feed her later."

"Pump it ahead of time?"

"Don’t even mention it. She bit both of them until the skin broke. I need a few days to heal."

...

It seems everyone is eager for them to finally get together. Be patient, be patient! I have to follow my outline step by step, but we’re getting close.
