Chapter 310: Chapter 294: Something Good is About to Happen
After searching for a while, he finally found a rather ideal fishing spot.
This was a very large, deep pool. The center was quite deep, but the water around the edges was shallow—only about three or four meters—and the bottom was covered in scattered rocks.
’This is the spot.’
’If there are actually mandarin fish in this pool, I should be able to catch them from this spot.’
He took his fishing rod out of the Storage Pavilion. Then, he deliberately attached a heavy sinker to the hook.
You don’t need a float to fish for mandarin fish, but you do need a fairly heavy sinker by the hook.
This is because you use live bait. Without a sinker, the bait would dart all over the place in the water.
After attaching the sinker, he picked up a shrimp from his bucket.
He inserted the hook through the top of the shrimp’s tail, careful not to damage its internal organs to keep it alive.
This was because mandarin fish love to attack live little fish and shrimp.
With that, he was ready to start fishing.
He gently lowered the bait into the water, letting the sinker slowly pull the shrimp down.
The shrimp would wriggle, but the heavy sinker prevented it from swimming away. It could only struggle, causing the sinker to move around in a small area.
Once he felt the shrimp had more or less hit bottom, he slowly lifted his rod.
He would lift it a short distance, then pause, letting the sinker and shrimp fall once more.
During this process, if any mandarin fish were nearby, they would likely dart over and snatch the shrimp.
And that would be a catch.
If no mandarin fish took the bait, he would wait for the shrimp to hit bottom again before slowly lifting the rod once more.
Again, he would only lift it a short way before pausing, then let the sinker and shrimp fall.
He repeated this process until a mandarin fish finally took the bait.
It required patience.
Li You was very patient. Even after lifting his rod several times with no bites, he didn’t grow anxious.
’Take it slow,’ he thought. ’Mandarin fish aren’t that easy to catch anyway.’
’Besides, there might not even be any mandarin fish in this pool. I was just here to try my luck; I didn’t have high hopes to begin with.’
However, pleasant surprises often come when you least expect them.
After Li You had lifted his rod a few more times, he suddenly felt it dip sharply as an immense force pulled from beneath the water.
’Something’s on the hook!’
’I’m not sure if it’s a mandarin fish, but it’s highly likely.’
’If it isn’t a mandarin fish, then it might be a soft-shelled turtle.’
’There’s a good chance this place has soft-shelled turtles too.’
Whether it was a mandarin fish or a soft-shelled turtle, either would be a pleasant surprise.
Li You was thrilled and yanked his rod upward with all his might.
Soon, whatever had taken the bait was pulled out of the water.
It was a mandarin fish.
’So there really are mandarin fish in here!’ Li You was even more excited now. He kept reeling, pulling the mandarin fish right up to him.
It was a big-eyed mandarin fish.
It made sense that it was a big-eyed mandarin fish. The mandarin fish in these waters were likely all of the big-eyed variety.
This big-eyed mandarin fish weighed just under a pound. Although it wasn’t as large as the two Lin Guodong had given him, it was still a good size.
’It’s beautiful!’
Li You admired it for a while before carefully removing the hook from its mouth.
"Ingredient: Big-Eyed Mandarin Fish."
"Quality: Medium."
’Medium quality, just as I thought.’ The two big-eyed mandarin fish Lin Guodong had given him yesterday were also medium quality.
He placed the fish in his bucket.
Li You was in high spirits. He hadn’t expected to get more mandarin fish so soon. Now he could have steamed mandarin fish again.
’This is awesome.’
Time to keep fishing. ’Since there really are mandarin fish here, I should catch a few more. I can raise them in the Spatial Fish Pond and eat them whenever I want.’
’I could also sell some of them.’
He had already mastered the recipe for steamed fish, so he could now add steamed mandarin fish to his menu.
’Should I sell them? How many? I’ll figure that out later. For now, I’ll just focus on fishing.’
Li You’s enthusiasm grew instantly. He took another shrimp from the bucket and hooked it just as he had before.
He lowered it into the water and officially cast his line again.
Before long, he had another bite. This one was even bigger, weighing a little over a pound.
’Another mandarin fish! This spot is amazing!’
Li You kept fishing. Before he knew it, he had already caught eight of them.
The largest was a little over a pound, and the smallest was about half a pound.
The bucket was getting crowded. Li You simply moved all of them into the Spatial Fish Pond.
Just then, his phone rang. It was a call from Chu Yiwei.
He answered.
"Boss, having a good catch today? You’re still not back yet."
Clearly, Chu Yiwei was at the restaurant.
And Da Bai and Xiaohai knew Li You was fishing here.
So, Chu Yiwei must have found out from Da Bai and Xiaohai that he was fishing in the gorge.
That explained what she had just said when he answered the phone.
’Is it that late already?’
Li You checked the time. It was already 11:30 AM.
’It is getting a little late.’
’I can’t believe it’s already 11:30. Time sure flies when you’re fishing.’
’Time to pack up and head back.’
Eight mandarin fish was a fantastic haul.
After telling Chu Yiwei on the phone that he would be back right away, he began to pack up his rod.
Once he was packed up, he took all eight mandarin fish out of the Spatial Fish Pond and put them in his bucket.
Besides Chu Yiwei, he figured other customers must have arrived as well.
Since the customers knew he was out fishing, he had to show them his catch, didn’t he?
One of the most exciting things for any angler is showing off their catch.
Li You was no exception.
He picked up the bucket, grabbed his fishing rod, and started heading back.
A little over ten minutes later, Li You arrived back at the restaurant entrance.
Just as he’d thought, other customers had arrived besides Chu Yiwei. There were about twenty people in total.
