Chapter 456: Awakening

This was the first time its behavior had changed since its birth.

Why?

"Waaah... Ah..."

"These demons are finally all dead..."

"Dead..."

"Wuu... Hahaha..."

"Hell... it’s finally over..."

As if answering Xiao Shou’s question, countless cries and hysterical laughter suddenly rang out from within the enormous black city, all spoken in a familiar language.

Xiao Shou said in surprise, "That’s the language of the Heaven Origin Realm. I don’t know whether the language of the Heaven Origin Realm is commonly used in other realms, but there are clearly humans living in this city. How can there be humans here?"

"Is the Demon Abyss Clan keeping humans captive?"

"Why?"

"Could it be that the Star Demon Mother Tree changed its method of absorption because it wanted to avoid accidentally harming the humans inside the city?"

Xiao Shou felt that his mind was filled with questions, yet there was no one to answer any of them.

He could only rely on the Star Demon Mother Tree’s vast and incredibly clear perception to figure out what was happening.

Unfortunately, just as he saw countless men and women stumbling out from various dark corners, their bodies covered in all kinds of miserable injuries, including whip marks and knife wounds, all of them looking toward the Star Demon Mother Tree with expressions of reverence, the Star Demon Mother Tree once again flew away.

It headed directly toward an unknown destination.

From the several battles in the Heaven Origin Realm, it was clear that the Demon Abyss Realm also had its own factions and rules of survival. Although Xiao Shou did not know what their system of governance was like, it was obvious that the hierarchy between the upper and lower classes was extremely distinct.

Because of this, perhaps this faction had received news of the Star Demon Mother Tree’s invasion. Or perhaps they were simply trying to intercept the direction in which the Star Demon Mother Tree was advancing.

After the Star Demon Mother Tree absorbed the Demon Abyss Clan from three more enormous cities, along with the demonic aura along the way, a vast sea of Demon Abyss Clan members finally appeared in front of it.

Countless demon soldiers and Demon Generals filled the sky and earth, densely packed like dark clouds.

As the Star Demon Mother Tree flew toward them, a gigantic demonic axe suddenly descended from the sky.

The enormous axe cleaved downward, causing the surrounding demonic aura to surge violently as faint spatial cracks appeared in the air.

Then, the gigantic demonic axe suddenly shrank and flew back into the hand of a tall demon wearing purple-red armor.

The demon had delicate features but an extremely imposing physique. He casually caught the axe and spoke in a commanding tone.

"Audacious fool! How dare you invade several cities of my Demon Nation and slaughter millions of my Demon Abyss Clan soldiers and generals!"

"You flew here from the direction of Star Moon Mountain. If my guess is correct, you must be a human lackey!"

A human lackey? That isn’t quite right. But it is true that he was created by humans.

Xiao Shou thought smugly.

Along the way, he had watched the Star Demon Mother Tree display overwhelming might. Wherever it went, the Demon Abyss Clan was annihilated, while countless humans who had been imprisoned and tortured by the Demon Abyss Clan for unknown reasons were rescued.

The larger the city, the more humans were being kept captive inside.

Although Xiao Shou still did not understand why these humans were being imprisoned, he had already developed absolute confidence in the Star Demon Mother Tree’s strength.

He believed that it would never lose to the Demon Abyss Clan.

No matter how numerous or powerful its enemies were, the Star Demon Mother Tree would never lose.

To the Star Demon Mother Tree, these members of the Demon Abyss Clan were simply food and nutrients.

That decisive courage born from instinct made Xiao Shou extremely envious.

He felt that this was precisely the quality his own personality lacked.

Through the Star Demon Mother Tree’s perception, Xiao Shou looked at the enormous mass of Demon Abyss Clan members opposite them and suddenly had a strange thought.

Are all Demon Abyss Clan members male demons? Are there no female demons?

Why was it that whether in the Heaven Origin Realm or inside the several enormous cities, he had only ever seen demons with male appearances?

He had never once seen a female demon.

Why was that?

If there were no female demons, how did their race reproduce?

However, Xiao Shou belatedly realized something else.

The male demon who had just spoken had not been speaking the language of the Heaven Origin Realm, nor any modern language from his homeland.

So how had he suddenly understood him?

As this question arose in his mind, Xiao Shou could not help recalling the scene when the light of his absolute fusion ability had enveloped the earth.

Even large numbers of demon soldiers and Demon Generals had been covered by that light.

After the absolute fusion was complete, the number of demon soldiers and Demon Generals had been reduced by more than half.

Could it be because he had used his own blood, the soil of the Demon Abyss Realm, and those demon soldiers and Demon Generals to fuse the Star Demon Mother Tree, which had somehow granted him the ability to suddenly understand the Demon Abyss Clan’s language?

Or was it because he was residing within the Star Demon Mother Tree, allowing him to understand the Demon Abyss Clan’s language through the Star Demon Mother Tree itself?

Xiao Shou could find no answer to any of these questions.

Countless doubts continued intertwining within his mind.

The Star Demon Mother Tree was no slower than Xiao Shou had imagined. After the refined-looking male demon wielding a demonic axe, who clearly appeared to be no ordinary figure, finished speaking, the Star Demon Mother Tree did not give him any response. Countless enormous roots suddenly lashed toward the male demon who had spoken first and the vast army of demon soldiers and Demon Generals behind him, covering the sky and blotting out the earth.
