Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Laxus’s Concealment

Hearing Laxus’s words, Ophelia blinked.

It seemed her brother wasn’t completely devoid of feelings for Ali; he just hadn’t realized his own heart yet.

Ophelia shot Ali a meaningful look.

Ali stomped her foot. "You say Lam isn’t suitable to be my mate, so who is? You?

"Haven’t you always treated me like a sister? Why do you suddenly want to be my mate now?"

Laxus looked utterly bewildered. "When did I ever say I wanted to be your mate? I simply said Lam isn’t right for you.

"If you really want to find a mate, I can find a suitable male for you from the Golden Dragon Clan."

Hearing Laxus still trying to push her onto someone else, Ali grew anxious.

Ophelia quickly pressed down on her hand and let out a light laugh. "That sounds perfect! I also think the males of our Golden Dragon Clan are the best—strong and handsome.

"After all, Ali is our mother’s adoptive daughter. Brother, you really need to pick a good mate for her.

"Klein happens to be visiting in a while. Once he arrives, we can hold a mating ceremony for Ali."

Seeing Ophelia take this angle, Ali calmed down and nodded emphatically.

"Right, exactly!

"Sister, quickly send someone to tell my brother to come sooner."

Seeing Ali’s impatient eagerness, Laxus knitted his brows together in a deep frown. Realizing he couldn’t talk her out of it, he could only fall silent and turn to leave.

The moment he was gone, the smug expression on Ali’s face instantly fell.

"Sister, does Laxus really like me?"

Ophelia rubbed her chin, pondering Laxus’s recent behavior. "There’s probably a fifty percent chance.

"Just hold out for another two days."

Hearing she still had a half chance, Ali regained some of her fighting spirit.

Meanwhile, Laxus arrived at the entrance of the Fuzu Tribe. He saw Lam inside a walled shop, smiling as he introduced his goods to a young female customer. The sight of the two chatting and laughing caused his eyes to instantly turn a few degrees colder.

"Is this thing you’re talking about really that good?" the young female asked, her small face blushing as she looked at Lam’s handsome features.

Lam had an excellent mind for business, so he knew full well that his face was also a tool for attracting customers. Therefore, when dealing with starstruck young females, his attitude would become even gentler. After all, when young females made impulse purchases, they could spend Crystal Stones quite recklessly.

He picked up a Stone Bowl, poured some brown powder from a Beast Skin Bag into it, added a tiny bit of water, and stirred the powder into a paste. Then, he gently took the young female’s hand and used a small wooden stick to apply the paste to her nails. Afterward, he wrapped her fingers tightly with a leaf.

After waiting for about five minutes, Lam removed the leaf. The young female’s originally smooth and white nails were now tinted with a faint shade of orange.

"Wow, this thing can actually color nails!" the young female exclaimed in surprise.

"Yes. If you leave it on overnight, the color will become much richer. With multiple applications, the shade will gradually deepen and won’t fade easily."

The young female had only wanted to give it a try and hadn’t expected such great results. She immediately pulled out a Red Crystal Stone. "I’ll take this red flower powder."

Lam pocketed the Red Crystal Stone and smilingly tied up the Beast Skin Bag containing the red flower powder before handing it over.

The young female even took the opportunity to lightly scratch his palm with her fingertips. "Lam, if you have more good stuff like this in the future, remember to keep me in mind."

Laxus took in every little detail of their flirtatious exchange. Once the young female left, Laxus could no longer suppress the anger welling up inside him and strode right into the shop.

"Feel free to look around if you’d like to buy anything. Here at my..."

Before Lam could even finish his welcoming spiel, a heavy punch slammed directly into his face. The blow sent Lam staggering backward until he crashed against the wall.

He turned his head to glare at the red-eyed Laxus and snapped. "Laxus, are you out of your mind?

"Why did you attack me out of nowhere?"

Laxus’s knuckles cracked as he clenched his fists. "You know perfectly well that Ali likes you, so why are you acting so intimately with other females!

"Does doing this do justice to Ali?"

Hearing Laxus’s words, Lam wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and chuckled. "This is just how I am when I do business.

"If Ali can’t accept that, then I simply won’t become her mate."

Seeing Lam’s nonchalant expression only fueled Laxus’s rage further. His expression darkened. "You don’t deserve Ali at all. I forbid you from becoming her mate."

"Forbid me? On what grounds?

"Laxus, don’t tell me you like Ali? If you like her, then go pursue her yourself. What’s the point of giving me a hard time here?" Lam leaned against the wall, a meaningful smirk playing on his lips.

"What nonsense are you sprouting? I’m warning you, you are not allowed to be Ali’s mate. Otherwise..." Laxus threw out a final threat before turning and leaving.

Early the next morning, Laxus arrived at the single females’ dormitory in the Fuzu Tribe, carrying roasted rabbit meat. As he approached the five-story stone building, he spotted two figures standing under a large tree outside.

Beneath the tree, a male was bending over to let a young female inspect the injury on his face. Their bodies were pressed so close together that their breaths intertwined.

Ali reached out her finger and gently tapped the wound at the corner of Lam’s mouth.

"Easy now, my dear. That hurts."

"S-sorry, I didn’t mean to. Are you okay?

"I really didn’t expect Laxus to get physical with you. I apologize on his behalf."

Rum looked at Ali’s cautious demeanor and sighed. He raised his hand and rubbed Ali’s head. "I was just tricking you. It doesn’t hurt anymore.

"However, Ali, before you love someone else, you need to learn to love yourself first."

Lam felt that Ali was too insecure. She was supposed to be a proud young female, but because this was her first time liking a male, she was constantly walking on eggshells.

"Okay, I understand."

Ali lowered her head, the courage she had just mustered up last night deflating a bit.

Lam stared at the crown of her head as a familiar scent wafted into his nose. His eyes shifted as he grabbed Ali’s hand and pressed it against his own cheek.

"Laxus hit me so hard, it really hurts. Blow on it for me."

"Huh? Didn’t you just say it didn’t hurt anymore? Why does it hurt again?"

Lam’s eyes curved into a smile. "I don’t care, I want you to blow on it."

Ali didn’t overthink it, so she stood on her tiptoes and blew softly at the corner of Lam’s mouth.

But from a short distance away, what Laxus saw was Ali leaning in to kiss Lam on her own initiative. Unable to hold back any longer, he stomped heavily toward the two of them.

Hearing the heavy footsteps, Ali tilted her head in confusion, only to realize it was Laxus. She unconsciously panicked and stumbled, but Lam reached out and steadied her.

"Thank you."

"Don’t mention it. But since Laxus injured me, shouldn’t you help me vent my frustration?" Lam lowered his voice and winked at Ali.

Ali thought about it and agreed. Thus, when Laxus marched right up to them, she spoke up. "Laxus, why did you hit Lam? What exactly did he do wrong?"

"He..." Laxus was about to speak, but he froze when he met Lam’s smug smile.

No, he couldn’t reveal what Lam had done yesterday. Otherwise, Ali would be heartbroken if she found out. He didn’t want to make Ali unhappy.

"It’s nothing. I just simply found him an eyesore."
