Chapter 333: Chapter 180: Both Have Backers

Yet, the moment the massive flaming blade struck, the seemingly fragile golden barrier flared. The Divine Art runes on its surface swirled frantically, and it held firm against the ferocious blow!

Flames and golden light collided and erupted, sending a visible shockwave of heat expanding in all directions. It forced the nearby security guards back several steps, but the barrier itself merely flickered violently a few times before stabilizing, as steady as ever.

A look of shock flashed across Yang Haishan’s face, quickly replaced by a deeper rage and madness. The malice in his eyes intensified. With a low roar, the massive flaming blade flew back to circle at his side. The flames on the blade then surged, clearly gathering even greater power for its next strike.

Just as he was about to swing the blade again, a figure shot toward him like a meteor. It was Yang Wenqing!

He was surrounded by three solid, heavy layers of a pale golden light—the Golden Light Body Protection Spell. He firmly positioned himself between the Divine Art barrier and Yang Haishan, his eyes locked on the latter as he demanded, "Chairman Yang, do you have any idea what you’re doing?!"

"Yang Wenqing?!"

Yang Haishan’s pupils contracted as he recognized the newcomer. A muscle in his cheek twitched, his expression a mixture of fury at being thwarted and the shame of being caught in the act. He opened his mouth, as if to offer a defense or a threat.

But before he could speak, a dense flurry of whooshes tore through the air above. Several rapid-response Flying Shuttles from the Civil Affairs Bureau descended, their cabin doors sliding open. A dozen or so officials quickly landed. Some moved to guard the flanks of the Divine Art barrier, while others began shouting, trying to bring the chaotic scene under control.

Immediately after, the shrill wail of sirens grew louder. Several black Flying Shuttles bearing the City Defense Bureau insignia closed in from all directions like hunting Night Owls. Beams from their searchlights converged on the scene. Fully armed guards leaped from the shuttles, quickly forming an outer perimeter with their weapons vaguely aimed at Yang Haishan’s security team.

The City Defense Bureau’s Operations and Public Security divisions had arrived!

Yang Haishan’s expression turned utterly grim. He hadn’t expected them to react so quickly—so quickly, in fact, that he wondered if this was a trap someone had set for him.

"Get out of my way!"

His eyes held nothing but the desperate madness of a cornered animal. The massive flaming blade, blazing with an incandescent edge, suddenly swept horizontally at Yang Wenqing. For a moment, the blinding light illuminated half the sky.

He held nothing back in this strike!

Yang Wenqing was prepared. The Golden Core inside him trembled slightly as immense Spiritual Qi instantly flooded into the Golden Light Body Protection Spell.

CLANG—

A deafening sound, like metal striking metal, rang out. The three golden layers of light rippled violently. The outermost layer shattered on impact, but the inner two held firm, resolutely blocking the mighty blow.

When his attack failed, the crazed, violent look vanished from Yang Haishan’s face. Without a moment’s hesitation, he spun around and fled frantically toward the port.

As he streaked away, he fumbled to activate an encrypted channel on his Communication Token. He spoke quickly, "It’s me. Something’s gone wrong. I need an evac. Either you send someone now, or you can watch the City Defense Bureau take me in."

"Xia Meng, take a team and set up an interception toward the port!" Yang Wenqing barked the order into his badge even as he parried the attack. "Section Chief Wei, you’re to maintain order here, protect the investigators, and follow Director Liao’s lead from the Civil Affairs Bureau. Get Yang Haishan’s security team under control."

Before the words had even left his mouth, he was already in hot pursuit of the fleeing Yang Haishan.

Ahead, Yang Haishan was growling anxiously into his Communication Array, completely oblivious to the fact that not far behind, Yang Wenqing was also establishing a high-speed connection with his master, Qin Huaiming.

One chasing the other, the two figures became streaks of light tearing through the night, weaving at high speed between industrial buildings and over rugged terrain as they rapidly left the main conflict zone behind.

As a cultivator at the Second Transformation of the Marrow Cleansing Realm, Yang Haishan’s speed was incredible as he fled for his life. Within moments, he could already make out the faint outline and lights of the distant port. However, Yang Wenqing, aided by the Wind Manipulation Technique, was no slower.

Suddenly, as he reached a relatively open area about a kilometer from the port, Yang Haishan’s figure jerked to a sudden stop.

It wasn’t that he wanted to stop. Ahead, against the seemingly calm night sky, he could already make out the faint silhouettes of the City Defense Bureau’s combat Flying Shuttles.

Blocked from the front, hunted from behind.

Yang Haishan spun around to face Yang Wenqing, who had just caught up. His eyes flashed with the savage light of a cornered beast. Spiritual Qi surged violently around him as the flaming longsword materialized once more, its firelight more intense than ever, bathing him in a glow that made him look like a descending god of fire.

"Yang Wenqing, we have no past grievances or recent disputes! Why are you so determined to hunt me to my death?" Yang Haishan’s voice was hoarse, laced with the desperation of a man at the end of his rope.

"Let me go, and I, Yang Haishan, will never forget it. I’ll repay you handsomely in the future. Just name your price—whatever you want, I’ll make sure you get it."

He spoke in a rapid torrent, promising incredible rewards in an attempt to sway Yang Wenqing.

Yang Wenqing’s expression was serene. The golden light around him receded, but his aura remained firmly locked on his opponent. He replied decisively, "Chairman Yang, it’s not too late. Put down your weapon and cooperate with the investigation team. You might still be able to receive a lighter sentence."

His tone was steady, carrying the impartial weight of official duty.

"Who do you think you’re kidding? You just arrested my brother-in-law, and now you’re targeting me like this. You were waiting for me here all along, weren’t you? If I go back with you, I’ll be subjected to a Soul Search first thing. At my cultivation level, there’s no way I could survive the backlash. You want me to become a drooling idiot for all of you to laugh at?"
