Chapter 352: Chapter 158: Shangqing’s True Transmission, Immortal God
"!!!"
Listening to Hong Miaojin, Fang Xing couldn’t help but feel a chill.
’The consequences are even more severe than I expected.’
"How can this Divine Statue have such powerful incense fire? Is it because of these people’s worship?" Fang Xing asked curiously, watching the group of people kowtowing before the statue.
"It accumulates over time. Larger Buddhist Sect temples have the same situation; it’s just a matter of how much incense fire they have," Hong Miaojin explained. Fang Xing instantly understood.
"This is a Sea God ritual. They’re worshipping the local Sea God," Hong Miaojin added.
A Sea God ritual...
"Is it effective?" Fang Xing blinked.
"If the incense fire is strong enough, it’s effective. It can at least ensure favorable weather and prevent major natural disasters," Hong Miaojin said.
"It’s quite potent, then. If it were destroyed, the incense fire inside would probably dissipate, right?" Fang Xing asked, looking at the Sea God’s Divine Statue.
Hong Miaojin: "..."
"If you destroyed it, you might be immediately struck by the backlash from the incense fire. Although your Primordial Spirit is strong and protected by your Rank, it’s best not to do something like that," Hong Miaojin warned him.
Fang Xing nodded.
Staring at the distant Sea God’s Divine Statue, Fang Xing had a sudden idea.
’Absorbing it with my Primordial Spirit would cause a backlash... but what if a Divine Spirit absorbed it?’
The thought popped into his mind, and Fang Xing felt an urge to try it.
In the end, however, he didn’t act on it.
There were too many experts here. Causing any major disturbance would attract unnecessary trouble.
’If I get the chance in the future, I can give it a try.’
Fang Xing thought to himself.
He felt that the Divine Spirit he had formed through Cultivation should be able to absorb the incense fire. However, what kind of changes it might produce was an unknown.
Even if problems arose, the Divine Spirit’s influence on him wasn’t significant, so he could handle it easily.
An hour passed, and the night had grown deep.
Fang Xing and Hong Miaojin returned to Celestial Star Manor.
When they returned to the courtyard, Hong Miaojin stopped at the entrance to her room and looked at Fang Xing.
"The Crown Prince and his retinue will be arriving tomorrow. You will accompany me to see them."
’The Crown Prince is coming...’ Hearing this, Fang Xing nodded.
"I will follow your arrangements, my lord."
Fang Xing naturally had no objections. The Crown Prince wasn’t coming in a personal capacity, but as a representative of the Court.
Paying a visit was standard procedure.
Hong Miaojin said no more and entered her room.
Fang Xing also went to his own room to rest.
「The next day, around noon.」
Fang Xing and Hong Miaojin went to the Crown Prince’s lodging.
As the Great Jing Crown Prince, representing the Imperial Dynasty while observing the Martial Dao Tournament, his lodging was not at Celestial Star Manor but in a separate residence.
Celestial Star Prefecture.
This was also the official residence of the Court on the island.
Although Celestial Star Island was jointly governed by the Ten Great Sects, Court officials were also stationed there.
Normally, they didn’t interfere in the island’s affairs.
Their duties were largely related to tax collection.
Upon arriving at Celestial Star Prefecture, a eunuch in a purple robe greeted them with a smile. "This old servant greets Lord Hong and Lord Fang."
"The Crown Prince and the others are in the main hall. Please follow this old servant."
Hong Miaojin nodded lightly and stepped into the prefecture. Fang Xing followed behind her.
Soon, the two arrived at the main hall.
There were many figures in the hall.
The Crown Prince had arrived with a large entourage, including some Court officials and attendants.
As he entered the hall, Fang Xing’s gaze was immediately drawn to a figure in the seat of honor.
It was a man in a gold python-patterned robe, who appeared to be in his thirties or forties.
He exuded an air of nobility. His features were sharp, and his gentle demeanor was laced with an imposing authority.
Fang Xing could sense an aura as vast as an abyss emanating from the man.
There was no need to guess; this man in the gold python robe had to be the Great Jing Crown Prince, Zhao Taichu.
He didn’t recognize most of the people in the hall, but there were two he had met before.
One was the Ninth Prince, and the other was Lü Su!
’Damn my luck...’
Fang Xing cursed inwardly, but his expression remained unchanged as he followed Hong Miaojin into the hall.
Immediately, all eyes in the hall fell upon them.
"Your humble servant, Qing Province Commander Hong Miaojin, greets the Crown Prince!"
Hong Miaojin clasped her fists but did not bow.
According to Great Jing law, those who have reached the Celestial realm do not bow, even to the emperor!
This wasn’t unique to Great Jing; it was the same even in the Great Wei.
"Your humble servant, Qing Province Demon Suppression Envoy Fang Xing, pays his respects to the Crown Prince!"
Fang Xing bowed deeply.
Hong Miaojin had the privilege of power, but he did not. He still had to follow the proper etiquette.
Looking at the two, Zhao Taichu rose from the head seat and said with a beaming smile, "Lord Hong, please, take a seat up here!"
"Thank you, Your Highness."
Hong Miaojin clasped her fists again, then strode forward to sit beside Zhao Taichu.
As a Celestial Martial Saint, she naturally had this privilege.
"Lord Fang, please be seated as well." Zhao Taichu turned to Fang Xing with a warm smile.
"Thank you, Crown Prince." Fang Xing bowed and then took an empty seat.
Sitting beside him was the very person he wanted to avoid: Lü Su.
"Lord Fang, it’s been too long. I have longed for you day and night, you know."
Lü Su’s voice entered his ears via voice transmission as she gazed at him with burning intensity.
Fang Xing’s eye twitched. If she weren’t the daughter of the current Prime Minister, Lü Chunqiu, he might have been unable to resist slapping her.
He wanted nothing to do with this woman.
"Miss Lü, you exaggerate. We are merely strangers who met by chance."
Fang Xing replied with a cool voice transmission, suppressing his inner turmoil.
Lü Su’s expression stiffened for a moment, but she quickly recovered, her smile remaining in place.
"Lord Fang, your words truly break poor Susu’s heart."
Her delicate voice entered his ears. A muscle in Fang Xing’s cheek twitched. He decided to simply ignore her and turned his head to look at the Crown Prince at the head of the hall.
