Chapter 295: Chapter 142: Qing Province Observatory, The Doomed Martial Saint

The only person who could truly give him orders was Hong Miaojin.

Even those at the Marshal Level were considered his subordinates.

It was like trading a slingshot for a cannon!

Gazing out at the Void Cloud Sea, Fang Xing’s eyes flashed open, a trace of Battle Intent igniting in their depths.

The Southern Border, Qing Province—this would be his future battlefield!

If he could seize this opportunity, he would soar to new heights!

...

「A few days passed in the blink of an eye.」

Southern Border, Qing Province City!

The primary city of the Nine Commanderies and Twelve Prefectures of Qing Province!

It was also an ancient city, over a thousand years old.

The morning sun was just beginning to rise.

A Flying Boat descended from the sky, landing on a hillside outside the city.

Fang Xing and Hong Miaojin disembarked from the Flying Boat.

"Qing Province City... We’re finally here!"

As he gazed upon the thousand-year-old city, a golden light flashed in Fang Xing’s eyes.

His Golden Eyes of Truth swept across the scene, and his expression tensed.

The fires of the mortal realm blazed above the city.

But coiled within these flames was Demonic Qi.

Not just a little, but a great deal of it.

This was proof that there were many members of Evil Cults and the Demon Sect within Qing Province City.

And it was not a small number.

’Even the provincial capital is like this...’ Fang Xing was alarmed.

The situation was truly unexpected.

For the Province City itself to be so thoroughly infiltrated was proof of how severe the problems in Qing Province were.

The Southern Border was the most treacherous region in the Great Jing, and Qing Province was the heart of that danger.

The forces of Demons and Monsters, Evil Cults, and the Demon Sect were deeply and intricately entrenched here.

With so much Demonic Qi present, he couldn’t use his Golden Eyes of Truth to pinpoint any specific source.

It blanketed nearly the entire city. The only place likely free of it was the Observatory.

But even the Observatory couldn’t be guaranteed to be completely clean.

If the Province City was in this state, then it was likely that most of the other areas had already fallen.

"Let’s go. We’ll enter the city, take a look around, and pay our respects to an old senior."

Hong Miaojin spoke, and Fang Xing deactivated his Golden Eyes of Truth. He nodded, and the two of them set off toward Qing Province City.

A thousand-year-old city. The history of Qing Province stretched even further back than that of Cang Province.

Inside the Province City, tall buildings rose into the sky, shops were bustling, and the streets flowed like a river of people.

Although a dense Demonic Qi permeated the air, Qing Province City at least appeared lively on the surface.

It was, after all, the heart of a province.

Appearances could still be maintained.

Following Hong Miaojin through the city, the two soon arrived at the Qing Province Observatory.

It looked just as grand and imposing as the Cang Province Observatory.

Under Hong Miaojin’s lead, the pair stepped directly into the Qing Province Observatory.

Inside the Observatory, they could see a few figures rushing about.

The pair observed their surroundings as they walked.

"To us! Fives! ... You lost, drink!"

"Haha, bottoms up!"

"Come on, come on! Let’s go again!"

"I’ll bet ten gold!"

"I’ll bet fifteen gold!"

"Crabs! Haha, I take the pot!"

Just as the two were passing a courtyard in the Observatory, a burst of cheerful noise drifted out from within.

They appeared at the entrance and looked into the courtyard.

A dozen or so people were gathered together, drinking and... gambling.

The reek of alcohol hung about every one of them.

The atmosphere was boisterous.

’They don’t resemble Observatory personnel in the slightest...’

Fang Xing thought to himself as he watched the scene.

’Gambling and drinking in broad daylight, living in a drunken stupor... The great Observatory of a province has fallen to this...’

Beside him, Hong Miaojin’s brow furrowed as she took in the scene.

However, she said nothing, merely sparing it a few glances before continuing deeper into the complex.

Fang Xing also remained silent.

They continued on, passing one Commander’s mansion after another, and the situation was largely the same everywhere.

Nearly everyone was gathered together, drinking and gambling.

There were only a few exceptions; for the most part, it was all the same.

Hong Miaojin’s expression was thunderous.

Walking beside her, Fang Xing could feel a bone-chilling cold emanating from her.

It was like being plunged into an icy cavern.

"Ma’am, perhaps most of them are on break today. It shouldn’t be too big of an issue," Fang Xing said quietly.

Hong Miaojin’s chilling gaze swept over the boisterous courtyard nearby.

"On break? Gathering in a Commander’s Mansion to hold a gambling party—you call that a break?" Hong Miaojin shot him a look.

Fang Xing said no more.

He could sense her foul mood.

It was understandable.

After all, she was about to take command of the Qing Province Observatory. How could she not be furious when faced with such a scene?

At least, Fang Xing had never seen anything like this in other places.

"First, we’ll see the senior. Then, we’ll deal with this trash," Hong Miaojin said coldly, striding toward the deeper parts of the Observatory.

Fang Xing saw this and hurried to follow.

As they neared the Commander-in-Chief’s Residence, a figure approached them from a short distance away.

Fang Xing glanced over. It was a middle-aged man who appeared to be in his forties, with a Cultivation around the True Essence Realm.

He was, most likely, at the Marshal Level.

"Hm?"

The middle-aged man had also noticed Hong Miaojin and Fang Xing.

He scanned them with his gaze. The handsome young man was at the True Gang First Layer of Cultivation, but he was shocked to find he couldn’t perceive the depth of the purple-robed woman at his side.

Furthermore, their faces were unfamiliar; he had never seen them before.

He was certain that these two were not people from the Observatory.

"And you two are?"

The middle-aged man stepped forward and asked, his tone polite.

Although the young man was only at the True Gang First Layer of Cultivation, the woman in purple beside him gave him a heart-stopping feeling of dread.

His attempt to perceive her aura was like a clay ox sinking into the sea—it vanished without a trace, leaving him completely unable to gauge her power.

Hong Miaojin stared at the middle-aged man, her gaze ice-cold. "What is your name?"

As she spoke, a sliver of her aura leaked out. The middle-aged man was still puzzled for a moment, but the instant he perceived that wisp of Hong Miaojin’s aura, his expression changed dramatically.
