Chapter 187: Chapter 132: Super Addictive Beachcombing (Part 3)
Two and a half hours had passed since he entered the map. Gu Nan planned to work for about another hour before logging out to rest.
This map could be entered at any time, and it would close once its resources dropped below 50%, so there was no need to go all out.
Prying up Tiger Head Crabs was much easier than digging for Clam Kings. Gu Nan spent only half an hour completely clearing out the patch of mounds before him.
He now had eighty-seven Tiger Head Crabs in his inventory. Even at a conservative estimate, they weighed over sixty pounds and were worth at least ten thousand yuan.
Just as he was about to continue, the game suddenly issued a warning.
[Ding! The host’s Spirit has been detected as extremely fatigued. Please exit the game and rest well. Note: A forced logout will occur in ten minutes.]
Gu Nan stopped in his tracks, his expression darkening. ’This game even has a forced logout feature?’
But since the game had prompted him, he had no choice but to log out. He hadn’t had his fill yet, but he could always continue after a good rest.
The moment he logged out, Gu Nan’s vision went black. An extreme wave of fatigue washed over him, and he fell into a deep sleep before he could even resist.
An insomniac would weep with envy to see it—getting so tired from foraging that you could fall asleep instantly.
...
The next day, at eight-thirty in the morning, Gu Nan groggily woke up.
He stretched, feeling all the fatigue from his recent fishing trips disappear. His Spirit felt great, too.
Gu Nan was very satisfied. He had slept for less than six hours, but the quality of sleep after foraging was just incredible.
However, he’d logged out in such a hurry last night that he hadn’t had a chance to check how much the map’s resources had been depleted.
He opened the game. The 100% in the top-right corner of the foraging map had changed to 87%.
’It’s down by 13%? Did I really catch that much last night?’
’The island is so huge, and I’ve barely caught anything. I thought I’d only taken one or two percent at most!’
At this rate, the map would close after three more visits at most. ’What a great foraging spot. Too bad it’s not more durable!’
Then, Gu Nan took stock of his haul from the previous night’s foraging: one hundred and six sea cucumbers, the smallest of which weighed nearly a pound.
Digging for Clam Kings was time-consuming and exhausting, so he’d only managed to get seventy-three, which he estimated to be around twenty-eight pounds.
Eighty-seven Tiger Head Crabs and one hundred thirty-seven yellow clams—a pretty good amount.
The rest—about ten swimming crabs, three octopuses, and other miscellaneous items—wasn’t much and could be ignored.
With so much stuff, Gu Nan had originally planned to just take it all out directly. But now, it seemed too risky. After all, society was filled with cameras everywhere; it was safer to let the game handle it.
So, he arranged for the four most numerous items—the Clam Kings, sea cucumbers, Tiger Head Crabs, and yellow clams—to be shipped. The few remaining miscellaneous items he took out directly and placed in a crate.
He could just say he’d gotten these while foraging on an island during a sea trip. No one would be suspicious.
He could also arrange to ship the Spotted Prawn Shrimp. If he shipped them now, they would most likely arrive in the afternoon.
He washed his face and brushed his teeth. Seeing that people were already fishing nearby, he started up his fishing boat and headed back, making for Lingdou Island first.
As he neared the island, his phone signal returned, and he immediately called An Jun.
"Hello? Who is it this early in the morning!"
A lazy female voice came through the phone. Gu Nan wasn’t surprised. He said calmly, "I’m looking for the man next to you."
"Hey, phone for you!" the lazy female voice said again, followed a few seconds later by An Jun’s sleepy voice. "Ah Nan?"
"Get up. I’ll be at the pier in about twenty minutes." After giving his notice, Gu Nan seemed to know what the other party was about to say and cut him off. "I’ll wait ten minutes for you at the pier. If you’re not there by then, you can take a taxi back yourself!"
Then he hung up. He didn’t have all morning to wait.
"..." An Jun stared speechlessly at his phone, now wide awake.
He glanced at the woman beside him, her back turned as she went back to sleep. He suddenly felt a little reluctant to leave.
’This woman... she was so smooth!’
So he tossed his phone aside and rolled on top of her.
"What are you doing?" The woman’s voice was a little coquettish.
"Doing you. We gotta hurry, I’m in a rush..."
Half an hour later, An Jun, hair disheveled, came rushing toward the pier. Seeing that Gu Nan’s boat had already started, he frantically waved and shouted, "Wait... wait..."
Gu Nan watched the countdown on his phone’s stopwatch. Three, two, one... Time’s up. He decisively started the boat and reversed.
He’d said he would wait ten minutes, and he wouldn’t wait a second longer.
An Jun stood at the edge of the pier, looking completely dumbfounded as the fishing boat pulled away. ’He couldn’t have missed me, could he?’
He quickly pulled out his phone and called. "Ah Nan, don’t go! I’m already at the pier, didn’t you see me?"
"Nope. Saw your mom, though. She says hi," Gu Nan said, the corner of his mouth twitching upwards.
"Fuck! I said ME, not my mom!"
"Oh... And?"
"What do you mean, ’and’?"
Seeing An Jun playing dumb, Gu Nan decided to give him a little reminder.
"Jin Enfei mentioned she’s stopping by my shop today to see Yi Chen. Should I tell her about last night?"
"Brother Nan, I was wrong... I’ll treat you to a big dinner tonight."
"How big of a dinner?"
"As big as you want!"
Having secured a feast, this pickup service was turning out to be worth it. Satisfied, Gu Nan hung up the phone and turned the boat around.
An Jun breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn’t that he was afraid of being stranded by Gu Nan—how much could a taxi possibly cost?
Nor was he afraid of Jin Enfei finding out. He simply felt he was in the wrong for ditching his friend, so he was willing to pay up.
After picking him up, Gu Nan asked with a grin, "So, was it good last night?"
"Don’t even get me started. It’s been a while since I’ve been with someone so smooth!" An Jun said, a reminiscent smile on his face. Then, a hint of regret appeared. "Sigh, but I regret it now. I saw her friend last night."
"Her friend..." Gu Nan’s expression turned a little strange. ’It couldn’t be that much of a coincidence, could it?’
"Was her friend really fair-skinned, with looks on par with Yi Chen’s, and a kind of classic beauty?"
"Uh... I guess she was kind of like that." An Jun was a bit baffled. ’Don’t tell me Gu Nan was secretly on a date last night too?’
’But he’s not that kind of guy!’
Seeing his reaction, Gu Nan took out his phone, pulled up the photo his mom had sent him, and showed it to An Jun. "Look like this?"
An Jun was shocked. "How do you have her picture? You can’t cheat on Yi Chen! She’s so good to you!"
