Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Treated as Air

Qin Yao didn’t say a word. She simply raised her weapon and aimed it at him, making it clear she would subdue him by force if he made the slightest move.

He Rong laughed in exasperation.

He raised a hand and rested his arm on the open car window.

Startled, Qin Yao immediately aimed her weapon at his arm.

No one saw He Rong move. All Qin Yao felt was a sharp pain in her arm. The next second, a large hand seized her wrist, yanking her forward until the top half of her body was pulled through the car window.

"Let go! Assaulting an officer is punishable by execution."

Qin Yao was shocked at first, but she immediately tightened her grip on her weapon. No matter how hard He Rong pulled, she refused to let go.

She could lose her head, but she couldn’t lose her weapon—especially not to a criminal brazen enough to impersonate a soldier.

"Assaulting an officer? What assault? You must be mistaken, Officer."

"I’m just helping you loosen up."

A malicious grin played on He Rong’s lips, his gaze full of provocation.

Furious, Qin Yao didn’t hesitate to strike back, seizing the opportunity to land a punch on his face.

He Rong jerked his head to the side, but he was still hit. After all, Qin Yao was a police academy graduate.

He Rong poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue. Before he could do anything else, another of Qin Yao’s fists came flying at him.

"Very good." Blood trickled from the corner of He Rong’s mouth. His gaze on Qin Yao was deep and tinged with a cold arrogance.

Qin Yao froze for a second, sensing danger. She instinctively grabbed his hand and tried to pull back.

But she was too late. With a sudden burst of strength, He Rong shoved the car door open.

The door slammed painfully into Qin Yao’s chest. Clutching her ribs, she attacked again, trying to subdue He Rong.

"Don’t run."

He Rong scoffed, and the two began to fight by the car door.

He reached out, pinned both of Qin Yao’s hands, and pressed her against the car.

Qin Yao’s neck flushed red as she struggled.

Realizing her predicament, she kicked out, aiming low at He Rong.

He Rong bent his knee, blocking her long leg and kicking her in the shin.

Qin Yao kept struggling with her hands, trying to push He Rong away. Her injured leg didn’t stop either, and she stomped down hard on his foot.

He Rong’s cheek twitched in pain. He looked at Qin Yao with a mixture of appraisal and curiosity.

"What are you looking at? Come with me to the station voluntarily, and maybe I won’t press charges."

Qin Yao didn’t forget to try and bluff her way through.

He Rong just chuckled, finally pinning Qin Yao firmly against the car. "Don’t move. I can’t guarantee what I’ll do next. I’m sure you don’t want to lose a limb, do you, Officer?"

Qin Yao pressed her lips together and said nothing, letting her continued struggles speak for her.

"It seems the officer isn’t going to cooperate." He Rong smiled, the corners of his eyes lifting slightly. He suddenly leaned in, his thin lips moving close to her cheek.

Qin Yao instinctively tilted her head back, her eyes filled with vigilance. Staring at his handsome face, her heart didn’t race; instead, she felt only defensiveness and disgust.

He Rong was an incredibly proud man. Seeing the emotion in her eyes, he laughed in exasperation on the spot. He suddenly wrapped an arm around her neck and leaned in to kiss her on the lips.

Qin Yao’s eyes widened. Seizing the chance, she broke free from his hold and threw a punch.

He Rong’s lips brushed against her cheek as he dodged her fist, but he couldn’t evade the leg she brought up.

When he felt the searing pain below, He Rong’s face contorted, and he shoved Qin Yao away with a violent push.

Qin Yao stumbled outward, but she twisted around and spun back, slapping a handcuff onto He Rong’s wrist.

"Enough."

"What’s going on?"

"Old He?"

Three voices rang out one after another.

It was Su Wan and Lu Zhengchuan. Su Wan had seen the two fighting from a distance and was extremely worried. Now, as she hurried over, she was slightly out of breath.

"Wanwan, Battalion Commander Lu." Qin Yao’s tone was urgent when she saw them. "Stay back. This criminal is assaulting an officer. He’s dangerous."

Hearing this and seeing the frustrated look in He Rong’s eyes, Lu Zhengchuan couldn’t help but let out a snort of laughter.

"Old He, oh, Old He. At it again with your old tricks, are you? Teasing people again."

He Rong shot him a dark look. "Shut up. I don’t like a single word coming out of your mouth."

"Battalion Commander Lu, you... know each other?"

Qin Yao finally pieced things together. She abruptly let go of He Rong and immediately backed away, putting at least five paces between them.

"Officer, now that you know you’ve misunderstood, aren’t you going to take these handcuffs off?" He Rong lifted his cuffed hand while wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth with the other.

Meeting He Rong’s questioning gaze, Qin Yao walked over, her expression unchanged. "Even if it was my mistake, the fact you couldn’t produce your officer’s ID is your problem, Comrade. I hope you’ll learn to behave yourself next time and not cause trouble for us police."

He Rong stared at her cold, stern face and laughed in exasperation. "You’re the one who made a mistake in judgment, yet you’re pushing the blame onto me? Shouldn’t you be the one apologizing?"

His words didn’t affect her. She held her ground. "This is how we’re trained. Anyone who doesn’t cooperate, regardless of their status, is to be treated as a suspect. If it turns out to be nothing, fine. But if it’s a real incident, no one can afford the consequences."

Lu Zhengchuan stepped forward and clapped He Rong on the shoulder. "Old He, don’t give Comrade Qin Yao a hard time."

’Qin Yao must have treated him the same as anyone else, and he got provoked over some little thing. That’s why they ended up fighting.’

Su Wan walked over with a hand on her waist, stood beside Qin Yao, and asked with concern, "Are you okay?"

"I’m fine, Wanwan." Qin Yao shook her head apologetically. "I didn’t scare you, did I? I just smelled blood and wanted to ask some questions. I didn’t expect to have a misunderstanding with this gentleman."

"But I still need to confirm, is this gentleman really a soldier?"

Seeing that Qin Yao was still doubting his identity, He Rong laughed in exasperation again. He nudged Lu Zhengchuan with his foot. "Battalion Commander Lu, are you going to vouch for me or not? If you keep enjoying the show and I get hauled off to the station, you’ll be the one I call to bail me out. Won’t you find that embarrassing?"

Lu Zhengchuan could tell he was getting worked up. He cleared his throat and said to Qin Yao, "Comrade Qin Yao, don’t worry. This is He Rong, captain of the Sky Wolf Special Forces. There is absolutely no problem with his identity, I can guarantee it."

"He probably doesn’t have his officer’s ID on him because he was on a mission. If you need to follow procedure, I can have someone from my side cooperate."

Qin Yao shook her head at Lu Zhengchuan. "That won’t be necessary. Your confirmation is enough, Battalion Commander Lu. I was just following procedure. I hope you don’t mind."

"...Hah." He Rong leaned against the car door. Seeing how polite she was to Lu Zhengchuan, he let out a sarcastic little laugh. "Anyone who didn’t know better would think Old Lu was the victim here. You should be apologizing to me."

Qin Yao ignored him. She stepped forward, unlocked the handcuffs, and spoke only to Su Wan and Lu Zhengchuan, treating He Rong as if he were thin air.
