I Came to Divorce Him—His Whole Regiment Adopted Me
Chapter 77: Don’t Cause Trouble
Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Don’t Cause Trouble
Lu Zhengchuan didn’t return alone. He brought Xu Jianjun and another man with him. Xu Jianjun’s hands were bound, and as he was being dragged over, he spotted the patrol officer and struggled to shout his complaint. "Officer, get over here! This soldier arrested us for no reason. Even if he’s in the army, this is still illegal, right?"
"Battalion Commander Lu, who are these two?"
the patrol officer asked in confusion.
Lu Zhengchuan hadn’t answered yet.
Liu Shu saw Xu Jianjun and cried out, "It’s them! They’re the ones who tried to grab me! They’re bad guys!"
Hearing Liu Shu’s voice, Xu Jianjun instantly recognized him.
His pupils constricted as he hid the guilt in his eyes. He brazenly stuck his neck out and said, "You little brat, what are you talking about? Who grabbed you? What nonsense are you spouting? What proof do you have?"
"Proof? Everyone saw it. Do I still need to give you proof? The fact is, you were trying to get something from my dad."
"Officer, you’ll find out as soon as you arrest and interrogate them! I’m really not lying." Liu Shu anxiously tugged at the patrol officer’s sleeve, desperate to prove he was telling the truth.
Xu Jianjun was far more cunning. He rolled his eyes at the boy’s words. "What’s this kid talking about? I was just messing with you. Did I steal anything from you? Did I hurt you? And as for your dad, what did I do to him? Can’t a guy just run his mouth and make a joke?"
"You... you’re bullying a kid." Liu Shu’s eyes went wide. He had clearly never met such a shameless adult.
’He thought that if he just told the police, these thugs would be arrested.’
But the truth was, Xu Jianjun had a point. He hadn’t actually caused any real harm. In a way, it was an unsuccessful attempt, and without any evidence, the most they could do was take him back to the station for a lecture.
The patrol officer warned Xu Jianjun, "We’ll have to verify what you’re saying. Whether you’re spouting nonsense or not, you’re coming with me to the station for questioning."
"So stop making a scene. What’s fake can’t be made real, and what’s real can’t be made fake."
Xu Jianjun tried to struggle, but the officer cuffed him without another word.
"Hey, you can’t just arrest someone because of what some little brat says! Is there any justice left in the world?"
The officer kicked him. "Cut the crap. I told you to come to the station and cooperate with the investigation, so come. If you have nothing to hide, what are you afraid of?"
Xu Jianjun: "..."
It wasn’t that he’d decided to behave, but that he realized saying anything more was useless. Besides... Xu Jianjun glanced at Lu Zhengchuan, who had been standing silently beside him the whole time.
’Looks like I really picked the wrong guy to mess with.’
"Fine, I’ll go! I didn’t do anything in the first place, so what’s there to be afraid of?" Xu Jianjun declared deliberately loudly.
Lu Zhengchuan produced a smelly sock from who-knows-where and shoved it into his mouth.
"What are you blabbering about? Just shut up already."
Xu Jianjun nearly passed out from the stench. His eyes bulged in anger, and then Lu Zhengchuan subtly stepped on his foot.
His face twitched in pain. More importantly, Lu Zhengchuan had inadvertently foiled his attempt to signal his accomplices. He could only hope that one of his men was nearby, had seen what happened, and would get word back quickly—before these cops could dig up any evidence.
"Lu Zhengchuan, this little boy wants to borrow our military vehicle. What do you think?" Su Wan proactively told Lu Zhengchuan about Liu Shu’s request.
Lu Zhengchuan didn’t answer right away. Instead, he looked at Liu Shu. "What’s your father’s name?"
"Sir, my father’s name is Liu Guosen," Liu Shu replied nervously, though he didn’t know why he was being asked.
Su Wan also looked at him curiously.
Lu Zhengchuan nodded. "Ah, so it’s Captain Liu. I know him."
"Huh?" Su Wan was a little surprised. She hadn’t expected this at all.
She instinctively asked, "So, are we going to help?"
"We can help." Lu Zhengchuan confirmed, then, ignoring the happy look in Liu Shu’s eyes, he began talking with the patrol officer.
"Wanwan, I have to go take care of this. Is it okay if you rest at the guesthouse and wait for me?" Lu Zhengchuan asked gently, presenting her with options. "If you don’t want to be delayed, I can have a comrade take the military vehicle, and I’ll stay here in the county town with you."
Su Wan wasn’t in a hurry. After all, she didn’t have anything else to do right now besides finish her shopping and then wait to head to the Capital.
’She could just stay with Lu Zhengchuan at the county guesthouse tonight instead of going back to the military compound.’
"It’s fine, I’m not in a hurry anyway. You’re the one who requisitioned the vehicle, so you should go yourself." Su Wan was also, in fact, very curious to see if the boy’s story was true.
Hearing this, Lu Zhengchuan still felt a little uneasy. He actually wanted to stay behind with Su Wan; his earlier offer was really for the patrol officer’s benefit.
’After all, if he didn’t show he was taking it seriously, the police station might not handle the matter with the urgency it deserved.’
"...Alright. I’ll be back as soon as I can."
Lu Zhengchuan took the others, got into the military vehicle, and headed straight for the police station.
The patrol officer didn’t go with them. He had other duties, and Lu Zhengchuan’s status was more than enough to ensure everything would be handled properly.
Because of Lu Zhengchuan’s arrival, the police station began processing the case quickly.
Su Wan stayed at the station to accompany Liu Shu.
"Don’t worry. If you’re not lying, you can put your full trust in Lu Zhengchuan. He’s a very capable person. You can just relax and give your statement here." Seeing Liu Shu made Su Wan think of the child in her own belly.
’She didn’t know if it was a boy or a girl, but if her own child ever grew up and needed help, she would hope a kind person would be there for them.’
"Thank you, Big Sister."
"When my dad is rescued, he’ll repay you," Liu Shu said with determination.
Su Wan didn’t take it to heart, simply reaching out to ruffle his hair.
Seeing the good deed through to the end, Su Wan waited with Liu Shu while he gave his statement. Afterward, Liu Shu took a sip of water from an enamel mug the station had given him, and his stomach started to growl loudly.
"This kid is so filthy. He should wash up before he eats, or he’ll get sick," a female officer said, bringing over a slightly old but very clean T-shirt. She handed it to Su Wan. "You’re his family, right? Could you please help him change?"
Su Wan took it instinctively.
Liu Shu blushed and waved his hands, glancing cautiously at Su Wan as he hurriedly explained, "Officer, Big Sister isn’t my family."
"You’re calling her ’Big Sister,’ but you’re not family?" The female officer, who hadn’t been briefed on the case, retorted without missing a beat. She didn’t wait for Liu Shu to explain further, simply ushering the two of them into a private office and closing the door behind them. "Get cleaned up and come right out," she said before leaving. "The cafeteria is about to serve dinner; you can get a cheap meal there."
Liu Shu stared at the closed door, then looked at Su Wan awkwardly. "Big Sister, I’m sorry..."
"It’s okay, it’s just a small thing. Why don’t you change first?" Su Wan wasn’t bothered at all.
Liu Shu quickly took the clothes, his face bright red. "Big Sister, you’re so beautiful and kind. I like you."
Su Wan: "...?" She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
With his back to her, Liu Shu quickly changed his clothes, too embarrassed to let Su Wan help him.
