I Came to Divorce Him—His Whole Regiment Adopted Me
Chapter 75: Sent Home
Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Sent Home
Seeing Zhang Yun shrink back timidly, Su Wan felt no sympathy for her. "Aunt Liu, as it happens, I’m taking Xiao Yun to the train station to go back to her hometown today. I’m just glad you’re no longer angry with her."
"She’s going back? Alright, then. I won’t hold you up." Aunt Liu was now in a hurry to get revenge on Mrs. Liu and naturally had no time to chitchat with them.
After watching Aunt Liu leave, Su Wan led Zhang Yun toward her front door.
Just a moment ago, she had been talking to Zhang Ru about the new custom-made bed she had ordered.
Now that both she and Zhang Yun were leaving, they wouldn’t be able to use it for the time being. But since it was already being made, her only option was to place it in the bedroom of their house in the family compound. Shipping it wasn’t practical. After all, her family didn’t have a transport driver, and the cost of shipping it anywhere would be high. It was better to just leave it there for now. Solid wood beds were durable and wouldn’t get ruined even if left for a long time. This fact barely eased the sting of the money Su Wan had spent.
"Wanwan, I’ve brought the car around. Zhang Yun’s luggage is in the trunk. Shall we head to the county seat now?"
The two had just returned to the courtyard when they saw Lu Zhengchuan loading all the luggage into an SUV parked at the gate.
Su Wan nodded. "I’m all packed. When we get back tonight, Madam Zhang will be delivering the new custom-made large bed, so we need to remember to come back early."
"...Alright." At the mention of the large bed, Lu Zhengchuan felt an uncharacteristic pang of disappointment.
’Sleeping in a small bed with Wanwan is perfectly fine. At least we can be close to each other.’
Su Wan didn’t notice his private thoughts, her attention focused on Zhang Yun, who was checking her luggage.
"Xiao Yun, these are all things I bought for my parents, my brother and sister-in-law, and my uncle and aunt. I’m going to mail them directly in a bit. When you get back, please help pick them up. I’ll tell my family who gets what, so make sure nothing gets missed." Su Wan didn’t quite trust Zhang Yun to carry these valuable items herself.
The gifts she bought for her family included silk scarves, shoes, skincare products, a watch, pastries, and various books. The items weren’t exceptionally precious, but they were things you could only find locally in the Southwest.
Of course, buying these local specialties was a way to show she cared. But more importantly, she didn’t dare give Zhang Yun the money to buy things in Yang County.
Zhang Yun just didn’t seem like the type of person who could hold onto money.
As for sending money, she would do that separately and wouldn’t need to explain it to the Zhang family.
After all, she was using the money she earned herself, not the living allowance Lu Zhengchuan gave her.
"I know, Sister-in-law. Don’t worry, I’ve written it all down. I won’t get anything wrong or miss anything." Zhang Yun sounded a bit sheepish as she said this; after all, the Zheng Family had once swapped out the things her cousin had sent to his wife.
"Okay, let’s get in the car and go." Su Wan was the first to walk to the car, but someone steadied her with a hand.
She turned her head and saw it was Lu Zhengchuan. She was about to say she was fine. ’It’s not like I’m eight months pregnant.’
But before she could finish, he had already helped her into the passenger seat.
Su Wan: "..."
In a few swift motions, Lu Zhengchuan fastened her seatbelt, then walked around and got into the driver’s seat.
After buckling his own seatbelt, he saw Zhang Yun still standing outside the car door and frowned. "What are you spacing out for? Get in."
Zhang Yun pouted, feeling aggrieved by the difference in treatment. But she only dared to feel sorry for herself and envy Su Wan inwardly. Outwardly, she obediently tried to placate Lu Zhengchuan. "Cousin, I’m getting in now. Please don’t be mad."
"Hn."
Even Su Wan thought Lu Zhengchuan’s reply was a bit perfunctory. She turned to say something, but then she saw Zhang Yun smiling happily in the rearview mirror.
She fell silent for a moment and swallowed the words on the tip of her tongue, feeling like she had been worrying for nothing.
The car drove along the less-than-smooth road, and after more than an hour, they reached the county seat.
Lu Zhengchuan drove to the post office first, where Su Wan got out and mailed all the packages.
Only then did they drive Zhang Yun to the train station.
Getting out of the car and seeing the crowded train station, Lu Zhengchuan frowned. He turned to Su Wan, who was in the passenger seat preparing to get out. "Wanwan, don’t get out. I’ll take her inside. You wait in the car for me."
"The station is too crowded, and it’s full of traffickers and pickpockets. I’m afraid you’ll get jostled."
Su Wan subconsciously touched her belly and nodded. "You’re right. I’ll stay here then. I’ll wait for you."
"Okay."
"Sister-in-law, I’m leaving now," Zhang Yun said, waving goodbye reluctantly.
But even if she didn’t want to go, she had to.
She departed with great reluctance.
Bored sitting in the car, Su Wan randomly picked up a physics book.
As she was reading, a knock sounded on the car window.
Su Wan put down her book and turned her head. Outside the window stood two men dressed like hoodlums in tapered pants and blue short-sleeved shirts. When they saw Su Wan, one of them, who had a cigarette dangling from his lips, looked her up and down, his eyes lighting up.
"What do you want?" Su Wan asked, her gaze cool.
The man with the cigarette spoke in a loud voice, "Have you seen a little boy, about this tall?"
"No," Su Wan answered coolly and started to roll up the window.
"Hang on. You say no, and we’re just supposed to believe you? We need to check your car." The man with the cigarette grew bolder when he saw that Su Wan was alone inside.
"Boss, this is a military vehicle. That’s not a good idea, is it?" the other man reminded Xu Jianjun in a hushed voice.
Xu Jianjun shook off his hand and ground his teeth. "Can’t you see it’s just this one woman?"
"And there are no soldiers around." As he spoke, Xu Jianjun looked around and confirmed that there was indeed no one in uniform nearby.
Su Wan just watched the two of them quietly.
Seeing that she wasn’t opening the door, Xu Jianjun frowned and reached out to bang on it again. "I told you to open the door, didn’t you hear me?"
"I heard you. But why should I?" Su Wan retorted.
"That brat stole something from us! Isn’t it right for us to find him and get our stuff back?"
"What does that have to do with me? You’ve already seen inside the car; there’s no one here but me. You still insist on getting in, so who knows what you’re really after." Su Wan’s logic was clear.
But Xu Jianjun had lost his patience. He roughly reached his hand inside, trying to open the car door from the inside.
"Just open it when I tell you to! Enough with the ’whys’! That little brat dared to steal our design blueprints, and he’ll have to face our wrath when we find him. There’s nowhere else to hide around here except your car. I saw him run around the corner just now, and at his speed, there’s no way he could have gotten into the train station."
Unfazed, Su Wan calmly took a gun out of the bag beside her and aimed it at Xu Jianjun’s head.
"Are you sure you want to keep trying to force your way into a military vehicle?" Su Wan’s voice sent a chill down Xu Jianjun’s spine, and his back was instantly soaked with sweat.
"You..."
"A gun... a gun... Boss, this woman is really a soldier..."
The scrawny man pulled Xu Jianjun, and they stumbled backward.
Su Wan didn’t bother to correct their misunderstanding.
She kept the gun pointed at them. "If you don’t leave now, I won’t need a reason to shoot."
Xu Jianjun was unwilling to back down, but he was still terrified of a soldier with a gun. He stormed off in a fury.
Only after watching the two men leave did Su Wan put away the simulation training gun Lu Zhengchuan had given her.
Of course, the gun wasn’t real, but its intimidation effect was clearly excellent. Su Wan was very satisfied. Lu Zhengchuan had given it to her last night for self-defense. ’It seems there are quite a few advantages to having a soldier for a husband.’
