Lu Zhengchuan was confused. Staring at Su Wan’s fair, beautiful face, he asked, "Is this the person you said last night you were going to find? It’s good that you found someone. I was in my office today worrying you’d get too tired from making so many pottery bowls."

’He’s actually happy about what Su Wan did, not questioning her for hiring an outsider.’

In that moment, Zhao Qing couldn’t help but feel happy for Su Wan.

"Mm, I was worried you’d be angry that I found an outsider to make money with instead of asking your cousin, Zhang Yun," Su Wan said deliberately.

Zhao Qing’s heart skipped a beat. ’I can’t believe Su Wan is this bold!’

"It’s nothing. You must have your reasons for arranging things this way." Lu Zhengchuan shook his head, indicating it was just a minor issue.

Su Wan smiled in satisfaction.

Zhao Qing decided not to wait any longer and came out of the bathroom. "Battalion Commander Lu, you’re back? I feel like I’m intruding. I’ll head home to make lunch now."

"Sister-in-law Zhao, thank you so much for helping my wife. I’m heading out for a mission tomorrow, so I’ll have to ask you to look after her." Lu Zhengchuan turned, seizing the opportunity to build a better rapport with Zhao Qing.

Zhao Qing now had a very good impression of him. Hearing his words, she smiled and agreed, "Of course. Wanwan and I get along great. Battalion Commander Lu, you be careful on your mission, too. Stay safe. You have a wife and child to take care of, after all."

"Alright."

Zhao Qing left with a smile.

As soon as she was gone, Su Wan immediately grabbed Lu Zhengchuan’s hand and urged, "Lu Zhengchuan, the bathroom still isn’t fixed. When can you fix it?"

"Are you free this afternoon?"

"I am." Lu Zhengchuan stared at her fair, delicate hand, the corners of his mouth turning up slightly. "I’ll fix it this afternoon."

His smile was dazzling. Su Wan’s heart hammered uncontrollably under his gaze, and she let go of his arm as if startled, instinctively placing her hands behind her back. Looking up, she said with a proud air, "Good. That way, I won’t have to hire someone to fix it."

"Let’s go. Time for lunch." Su Wan lifted her chin haughtily and walked ahead.

Amazement flashed in Lu Zhengchuan’s eyes. He followed behind her unconsciously, and when they reached the dining table, he instinctively sat down right beside her.

Zhang Yun came in carrying their rice bowls and immediately saw the lovey-dovey couple.

Her eyes widened in disbelief!

’Good heavens, am I seeing things? My cousin, who’s always so aloof and distant with everyone, is actually being this clingy!’

’I wish I could call the whole family over to see this.’

’It’s just too incredible!’

"Xiao Yun?" Su Wan looked up, confused. Seeing her standing frozen in place, Su Wan’s guard went up instantly. ’She’s not going to cause trouble again, is she?’

"Sister-in-law, I’m here." Zhang Yun quickly responded, stepping forward to place the rice bowls in front of them.

Noticing Lu Zhengchuan’s cold gaze on her, she quickly straightened her back. "Cousin, I’ve been helping out properly."

"Hmph. You’re staying on the base for the next few days, and I’m going out on a mission. You must listen to your sister-in-law. If you don’t, I’ll have no choice but to call our aunt to come and get you," Lu Zhengchuan scolded her.

Zhang Yun quickly said, "Cousin, I know. I definitely won’t cause any trouble for Sister-in-law during this time."

Su Wan, listening from the side, only half-understood. "Why does Xiao Yun have to stay on the base?"

"The case involving Zheng Zhizhi hasn’t been fully resolved yet. Only the part about swapping the letters has a verdict. The leadership is having Zhang Yun stay here for convenience."

"Of course, this whole thing should be resolved in a week at most. Once it’s settled, I’ll buy her a ticket home." Lu Zhengchuan looked at Su Wan, his voice softening noticeably as he explained.

This obvious difference in his tone made Zhang Yun incredibly jealous. Her eyes were filled with envy as she looked at Su Wan.

That look made Su Wan’s skin crawl. She rubbed her forehead in resignation. "Fine, I get it."

"Let’s eat," she said, subconsciously placing a piece of the braised pork belly that Zhang Yun had made into Lu Zhengchuan’s bowl.

A smile on his face, Lu Zhengchuan picked up his chopsticks and put some stir-fried glass noodles with pickled long beans in Su Wan’s bowl. "You eat, too. I heard from Sister-in-law Zhang that pregnant women crave sour things. You’d probably like sour tangerines, then. I’ll bring some back for you when I return from my mission. You can only get them in the countryside; the ones at the co-op are ripened in storage and are usually sweeter."

"Then just buy a couple of pounds for me to try. If they’re good, you can get more next time. Let’s not be wasteful." Su Wan was actually starting to crave sour tangerines, so she didn’t refuse.

After speaking, she thought about how considerate Lu Zhengchuan was being. She naturally had to reciprocate, so she placed some cucumber in his bowl.

Lu Zhengchuan glanced down at his bowl, his mood clearly improving. He thoughtfully noticed Su Wan had served herself vegetables a couple of times, so before she could reach for them again, he preemptively put some in her bowl.

Su Wan tilted her head to look at him. Lu Zhengchuan lifted his chin. "Hm?"

"It’s nothing. You eat too." Su Wan put some meat in his bowl as well.

The two went back and forth, a flirtatious atmosphere growing between them. They seemed to only have eyes for each other.

Zhang Yun became a mere spectator. Even when she tried to speak, no one responded.

Zhang Yun: "..."

She found them sickeningly sweet and vented her frustration by furiously shoveling food into her mouth.

After Su Wan finished lunch, Zhang Yun went to wash the dishes.

She pulled Lu Zhengchuan into the bedroom, pointed at the bed, and asked, "Where is Xiao Yun going to sleep? We have two bedrooms, but only one bed. We haven’t heard back about the bed Sister-in-law Zhang is having made for us."

"I’ll figure something out," Lu Zhengchuan said, his lips pressed together.

"If there’s really no other way, Xiao Yun could just sleep with me," Su Wan said, deliberately raising her eyelids to look at him.

"No."

Lu Zhengchuan rejected the idea without a second thought.

"Why not?" Su Wan’s lips curved into a smile as she pressed him deliberately.

Under the stare of her bright, dark eyes, Lu Zhengchuan’s chest heaved. "You’re pregnant, and Zhang Yun is too clumsy. What if she accidentally hurts you?"

"Is that the only reason?" Su Wan was a little dissatisfied. A wave of possessiveness washed over her, and she deliberately turned her back to Lu Zhengchuan. "I thought you were going to say that I can’t share a bed with anyone but you."

After she said this, a long moment passed with no reply. She frowned and started to turn, wanting to see what Lu Zhengchuan was doing.

’I’ve been so forward and flirtatious,’ she couldn’t help but think. ’Does he really not have any feelings for me at all? Is that why he’s not reacting?’

The more Su Wan thought about it, the more her heart sank.

She had just turned halfway when a pair of strong arms suddenly wrapped around her from behind.

Su Wan felt a warmth on her back, followed by a weight on her shoulder. The man’s hot breath fanned across her neck, and the tingling sensation sent an uncontrollable shiver through her entire body.

She could clearly hear the sound of her own heartbeat.

"I really don’t want you to," Lu Zhengchuan’s voice was muffled. His words made Su Wan break into a silent, irrepressible smile.

She knew Lu Zhengchuan couldn’t see her, so she let her smile spread with abandon.

"Why?" Su Wan pressed deliberately.

"Because," Lu Zhengchuan said, "I wish I were the only one who could."

"Oh? And why should I agree to that?" Su Wan turned her head to look at him, continuing to question him in an alluring tone.

Lu Zhengchuan stared at her lips. "Because you’re my wife, and I’m your man."

"You’re being quite the tyrant," Su Wan said, unable to stop herself from laughing out loud.
