I Came to Divorce Him—His Whole Regiment Adopted Me
Chapter 112: The Examination
Chapter 112: Chapter 112: The Examination
"Wanwan, you’re back?" Su Jue wiped the sweat from his forehead, stood up, and casually picked up a nearby enamel mug to take a sip. "Everything okay?"
"Something came up." Although Su Wan was worried, she decided to tell him the truth.
"Doctor Huang said I might be carrying twins."
"Twins? Does this mean I’m going to have two nieces or nephews?" Su Jue was overjoyed, unable to hide the smile on his face.
Aunt Zhao parked the bicycle. She didn’t want to spoil Su Jue’s good mood, but some things couldn’t be hidden. "Su Jue, my boy, Doctor Huang said that since they didn’t diagnose twins for Wanwan before, there must be an issue. Either the other baby isn’t developing well, or there’s some other reason. In any case, she needs to go to a major hospital for a check-up."
"If you have time, I think you should take Wanwan for an examination first. You can’t delay this kind of thing; it’s not good for the mother or the babies."
Having been pregnant herself, Aunt Zhao certainly knew how difficult pregnancy was for a woman. Those who didn’t suffer were simply blessed with good fortune.
Su Jue’s expression instantly turned serious. He stared at Su Wan’s belly and said, "We’ll go first thing tomorrow morning. Wanwan, you get some rest tonight. A trip to the hospital tomorrow will be tiring."
"Okay." Su Wan nodded in agreement.
"Wanwan, how about I make you some sweet egg drop soup with brown sugar tonight?" Aunt Zhao also started planning the meals.
Su Wan nodded.
She usually didn’t care for overly sweet things, but she had developed a liking for them after becoming pregnant.
After Su Wan finished her sweet egg drop soup, Aunt Zhao was still in the kitchen making dumplings. She and Su Jue would have a simple meal of boiled dumplings for dinner.
It was too hot, so she would have to make more for the next morning.
Seeing so many chestnuts outside, Su Wan had wanted to help, but Su Jue immediately shooed her into her room to rest.
"Wanwan, you can help after the baby is born. For now, go rest." Su Jue put on a stern face.
Helpless, Su Wan could only agree.
She thought she wouldn’t be able to sleep, but unexpectedly, after she lay down and thought about Lu Zhengchuan for a little while, she drowsily drifted off.
The man on Su Wan’s mind, Lu Zhengchuan, was also awake at this moment.
Their current training exercise was taking place in a real-world environment. They could be attacked by the opposing side’s forces at any time during the night. Right now, he was in a simple tent with Qi Hao.
Qi Hao was already fast asleep, his breathing deep and steady.
Lu Zhengchuan couldn’t sleep at all. He stared at the moon above, his mind filled with thoughts of Su Wan.
’I wonder if Wanwan is getting used to the Capital.’
’And the baby... I hope it’s not giving Wanwan too much trouble.’
’Sigh... I don’t know when I’ll be able to go back. I want to see Wanwan, and I want to be there with her.’

The next morning, Aunt Zhao got up at five, well before dawn. She started by proofing the dough, then began making dumplings.
She planned to make extra to take to the hospital. If they got hungry, they could have a snack. It was better than trying to find something to eat at the last minute and coming up empty.
Su Jue also got up early. He called for Zhang Shun and Wei Hong.
The three of them put the sorted chestnuts directly into a large iron wok borrowed from Wei Hong’s family and started roasting them.
"Once they’re roasted, let them cool down before taking them to the movie theater to sell. It’s hot now, so no one will want to eat hot chestnuts."
"Boss, why don’t we just find someone to borrow a freezer from? We could freeze the chestnuts. They’d probably be delicious too." Zhang Shun casually picked up a small, roasted chestnut and tasted it.
"Delicious!" Zhang Shun said gleefully. "I can finally say I’ve eaten chestnuts. What a luxury."
"Forget frozen chestnuts. If we could afford to borrow a freezer, we could be selling popsicles all day, not just thirty before they melt."
"Besides, chestnuts aren’t usually available. Even if they’re served cool, plenty of people will buy them. It’s not like they’re in a position to be picky about the temperature."
Su Jue had a keen eye for business; he didn’t think the chestnuts would be hard to sell.
"You two go sell these. We’ll roast the rest tomorrow," Su Jue told them, seeing it was almost seven-thirty.
"Huh? Boss, aren’t you coming?"
"You didn’t come yesterday, and we didn’t sell nearly as much."
Su Jue knew he was just being modest. "You have the nerve to say that? I can’t babysit your business forever. This is a good opportunity for you two to get some practice. I’ll plan things from behind the scenes."
Su Jue was determined to train the two young men.
Zhang Shun and Wei Hong nodded quickly, promising they would work hard.
"Alright, get going. Just sell this hundred-jin batch."
"Don’t rush if you sell out. We’ll sell more tomorrow. We won’t have to worry about the chestnuts not selling." They weren’t like sunflower seeds or peanuts that you could buy anywhere.
Su Jue didn’t ask the two to stay for breakfast, telling them to buy something for themselves outside.
Su Jue generously gave them money for breakfast.
Neither Zhang Shun nor Wei Hong accepted it.
It was thanks to Su Jue’s guidance that they were able to make money at all. They owed him a debt of gratitude as heavy as a mountain; how could they possibly quibble over such things?
Once the two of them left.
Su Wan also woke up.
When she got out of bed, Aunt Zhao had already finished making breakfast.
After finishing the dumplings filled with pickled greens, Su Jue went to get the tricycle. He had Aunt Zhao and Su Wan sit in the back, and he pedaled for forty minutes to the nearest hospital.
The hospital was quite crowded.
They had to wait in line to see the doctor. Aunt Zhao waited in line with Su Wan, and Su Jue stood guard beside them.
"Brother, why don’t you head back first? If something happens here, it won’t be an immediate emergency. And if it is, I’ll have Aunt Zhao get you right away." Su Wan didn’t want to delay his business.
Su Jue shook his head. "I’m definitely not leaving at a time like this. I can make money anytime—you can never earn all the money in the world. If something happened to you, I’d regret it for the rest of my life."
It was a little sentimental, but hearing his words still warmed Su Wan’s heart.
Seeing her brother’s firm attitude, she didn’t try to persuade him anymore.
Fortunately, the wait in line went smoothly. After asking about her symptoms, the doctor’s suspicion was the same as Doctor Huang’s.
The doctor wrote a referral for Su Wan to get an ultrasound.
Capital Hospital already had ultrasound technology at this time. It had only been in clinical use for less than half a year, but the equipment was far more advanced than what was available in their small county town.
They had to wait for the examination as well. It took up the entire day, but at least they managed to get all the tests done.
"The test results will be ready in three days. You can come back then."
"Over the next three days, if there are no unusual symptoms like bleeding, it means things are still normal. But if you feel unwell, come to the hospital immediately."
Su Jue frowned slightly at not being able to get a diagnosis right away, but he had no choice but to accept it.
"Alright."
Su Jue took Su Wan home on the tricycle.
By the time they got home, it was already seven o’clock, and the sky was getting dark.
Su Wan had been running around all day and was quite exhausted. That evening, Aunt Zhao cooked some noodles with shredded pork. After eating, Su Wan washed up and went to bed. She hadn’t read a book for over a day, and she felt a little unaccustomed to it.
Su Wan had even forgotten that she had called home.
So, when someone from the newsstand at the end of the alley came to call for a phone call, it was Su Jue who went.
"Mom, what’s up?" Su Jue answered the phone, still debating whether to tell her that Wanwan might be pregnant with twins. He was afraid his parents would worry at home, being so far away and unable to do anything.
