Chapter 364: Chapter 168: Guanxi Plain, the Jiangbei Mortal Realm Has Come

The Mortal Realm was clearly making a show of force.

If he hadn’t been constantly writing apology letters to the Mortal Realm, his Slaughter Immortal Holy Land might have been the one made an example of. After all, before this, they were the only ones in the entire Guanxi Plain who had any conflict with the Mortal Realm. No one else had the reach.

The Grand Elder of the Slaughter Immortal Holy Land took one last look at the deep pit. A sudden realization sent a chill down his spine. ’I must have lost my mind,’ he thought. ’A moment ago, I was actually thinking about picking up the spoils...’

This time, he would urge the Saint Master to send an apology letter.

And it had better be sincere.

...

「Within the Slaughter Immortal Holy Land.」

A group of Elders had gathered, weighing every single word as they drafted a profoundly sincere apology letter. They also attached an equally earnest gift as compensation.

All the Elders had been urgently recalled.

Even those in seclusion were dragged out of their meditation.

This was truly a matter of life and death.

「Meanwhile.」

The news began to spread like wildfire across the Guanxi Plain. Tonight, the Communication Stations were exceptionally bustling. Inside, Sound Transmission Talismans flashed incessantly as messages were relayed through them.

Factions that specialized in selling information quickly gathered every detail they could to sell to the others.

In addition...

In the market, the price for "Anti-Air Building Blueprints" suddenly skyrocketed, with several factions offering exorbitant prices in their scramble to acquire them.

Before this, the Guanxi Plain had no concept of air defense.

Air defense?

What could possibly be in the sky? In all these years, not a single Ghost Object had ever been known to fly.

But now, they knew.

The sky held the Mortal Realm, its one hundred Flying Ships, and its 1,700 Godslaying Cannons.

The various factions, who had spent their lives fighting on Skeleton Horses, suddenly understood in a single night the meaning of air superiority—that to control the skies was to control all power.

And where did those Flying Ships even come from?

...

The sky gradually darkened.

The Eternal Night descended once more, completely shrouding the Guanxi Plain. Tonight, countless people across the plain would toss and turn, unable to find sleep.

This was especially true for those who had witnessed the event firsthand.

They had always fought amongst themselves, vying for resources to grow their clans. But after witnessing today’s spectacle, the fight suddenly seemed pointless.

’What’s the point of fighting?’

’We can’t beat the Mortal Realm no matter what we do. What’s the point of all this conflict? We might as well just live our lives in peace.’

Quite a few factions shared this sentiment.

「In the dead of night.」

One hundred Flying Ships, their Ghost Fires lit, flew back into the Guanxi Plain. This time, no one knew. The Eternal Night concealed every trace of their movements.

They went completely unseen.

The Flying Ships traveled deep into the Guanxi Plain, finally coming to a stop beside a deep pit.

This deep pit was what remained of Hentian City.

Ghost Fire spilled from the hundred Flying Ships, shrouding the deep pit. A large group of Battle Pavilion members disembarked, carrying shovels and other tools, and began to dig.

"Every little bit counts."

Standing on the deck, Chen Fan smiled as he watched the Mortal Realm Members busying themselves in the pit. It would pain him to leave anything behind, no matter how small.

His main purpose for this trip had been to make an example of someone, establish their dominance, and make the Mortal Realm’s name known!

He had achieved that by annihilating Hentian City in a clean, shocking display of power.

Having his people disembark to dig for spoils right then and there would have been a bit embarrassing. It would have looked like he’d only come for Hentian City’s meager loot.

That’s why he had left without a backward glance.

He hadn’t returned to the Mortal Realm, though.

Instead, he found a place to lie low.

And then came back at night to dig.

It was a long round trip from the Mortal Realm to Hentian City. Even at the Flying Ships’ top speed, a one-way journey took more than an hour. He had actually sent out the proclamation when he was already halfway there, factoring in the time it would take for the message to spread. Information, after all, takes time to travel.

’Looks like those factions know what’s good for them,’ he thought. ’Not a single one coveted Hentian City’s legacy. I was even thinking that if any faction had tried to take it, I’d be paying them a visit for dinner tonight.’

The Flying Ships could be fitted with Ghost Fire.

As long as there were no flying Ghost Objects to worry about, they could fly freely under the cover of darkness—an even more terrifying tactic.

The Eternal Night.

The darkness was as thick as paste, so black you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. If he had started the bombardment then, Hentian City would have been utterly defenseless.

Of course, his forces couldn’t see the ground below either.

But with enough firepower, you’re bound to hit something even with indiscriminate bombing.

"This is good."

Chen Fan stood on the deck, his hands resting on the railing as he watched the bustling Mortal Realm Members in the pit below. He chuckled softly. For a while, at least, the factions of the Guanxi Plain should be much better behaved.

He could finally start laying down the High-speed Rail network and Signal Towers across the Guanxi Plain.

Once those were in place...

...it would mean the entire region was his territory. It didn’t matter if the locals acknowledged it or not. He did, and that was enough.

The Mortal Realm’s territory had expanded once again.

"..."

He stood on the deck, hearing a faint rustling from the darkness nearby. It was the sound of Ghost Objects moving about, but since they didn’t venture into the range of the Ghost Fire, he paid them no mind.

There was only one way on or off the Flying Ships: rope ladders.

That wasn’t very dignified.

So, before they set out, he had his personal Flying Ship modified, adding a retractable wooden staircase. One had to maintain appearances when away from home.

You have to look the part.

「About two hours later.」

A Mortal Realm Member boarded the ship and reported, "Domain Lord, we’ve excavated everything. It’s been stored in the Warehouses of Flying Ships 18 and 19. The specifics are..."

"No need to report the details now. Just take it all back for inventory."
