Chapter 318: Chapter 161: The King Descends from the Heavens, Wrathful and Ferocious

"Heh heh."

The shadow on the throne chuckled a few times before slowly rising, revealing its enormous frame. Its gaze traveled past the palace gates, looking deep into the Original Continent as it spoke slowly.

"That defeat on the Ancient Battlefield taught me many lessons."

"Even a lion uses its full strength to catch a rabbit."

"You know, these little human sayings are sometimes truly concise and to the point."

He smacked his lips, a little proud of himself. The Ghost Race held human culture in high esteem, and being able to sprinkle a few idioms into conversation was the mark of a cultured Ghost.

Naturally, he had learned quite a few himself.

"This time."

He paused, his expression gradually turning serious as he spoke, word by word, "Full mobilization. We will use the Celestial Array to descend upon Jiangbei Nameless Mountain!"

As his voice fell, gasps echoed through the grand hall, and a trace of disbelief flickered in the eyes of the four Ghost Kings.

’It’s just the Mortal Realm...’

’Is all this really necessary?’

Full mobilization meant deploying the entire army of several hundred thousand Ghost Objects. The cost of such a descent was already substantial, not to mention they were using the Celestial Array.

For Ghost Objects like them from the Original Continent, there were three methods to descend upon the Eternal Night Continent.

They were the Human Array, the Earth Array, and the Celestial Array.

First, Fake Human Ghosts are dispatched to the intended landing zone to mark the specific coordinates.

Then, the descent is accomplished through Array Formation.

The Human Array is a standard descent. They appear on the Jiangbei Continent through the Array, but this method takes a long time and can be interrupted if discovered.

The Earth Array, on the other hand, allows for an instantaneous appearance on the Jiangbei Continent. It has no duration and cannot be interrupted.

And as for the Celestial Array...

It facilitates a descent into the "sky" above the Jiangbei Continent.

They still appear at the marked coordinates, just high up in the air above them.

Generally speaking.

When Ghost Objects from the Original Continent descend upon the Eternal Night Continent, they choose the Human Array if they are landing in a safe, occupied territory.

If they need to descend into a combat zone, the Earth Array is required.

The Celestial Array, however, is typically used for surprise attacks.

To assault a section of a City Wall, for instance, they would use the Celestial Array. A large number of Ghost Objects would descend from the sky to deal the enemy a fatal blow.

The conditions for using the Celestial Array are extremely demanding.

The cost is also immense.

On the Eternal Night Frontline, few Great Ghosts choose to use the Celestial Array for a surprise attack. It would be no different from sending them to the slaughter; the firepower on the Eternal Night Frontline is just too intense.

The cost is enormous, with very little to show for it.

Besides, there’s no way to airdrop directly into the core territories behind the City Wall.

Jiangbei, however, meets the conditions. An airdrop is possible there.

But is it really necessary for a mere Mortal Realm?

"Didn’t see that coming, did you?"

The shadow on the throne looked down at the astonished expressions of his subordinates and laughed. "If even you couldn’t imagine it, then the Mortal Realm certainly won’t see it coming either."

"The Mortal Realm has surely upgraded that Meat Grinder of theirs to a very powerful level."

"We won’t meet it head-on."

"We will descend from the sky, instantly shattering all their deployments. With an army of hundreds of thousands of Ghost Objects, we will overwhelm the Mortal Realm, complete our mission, and return triumphant."

"Ghost Yi."

"Go and begin the Array Formation."

"The rainy season arrives tonight. I want to see the Celestial Array complete by then."

"The rest of you, go and prepare as well."

"Yes, My Lord!"

All the Ghost Objects in the grand hall acknowledged the command in unison and quickly departed.

Only he remained in the hall.

The portly figure on the throne stared through the high doors of the hall, his resolute gaze fixed on the depths of the Original Continent. This time, he was determined to take a huge bite.

The Mortal Realm...

He had always found this faction a bit strange. It was very likely a power left over from the Ancient Era, which was why he was using nearly his full strength.

He was terrified of it all backfiring.

...

The sky gradually darkened.

Raindrops began to fall over Jiangbei.

...

Chen Fan stood on the City Wall of the Rainy Season Defense Line, gazing into the depths of the wilderness. The eternal night was about to fall. And with its arrival,

the rainy season would be here.

It also meant that he had now lived in this world for a year.

He felt the cool sting of the rain on his body, silently staring into the distance without a word.

Tonight.

Or in a few nights.

A powerful Great Ghost would lead an army out of the eternal night to attack the Rainy Season Defense Line. He was ready.

"Domain Lord."

Wang Kui came to his side and reported in a low voice, "I’ve had my men check everything. All preparations are complete. The Mortal Realm is fully prepared to face this rainy season."

"There won’t be any problems."

"Good."

Chen Fan nodded lightly. Just then, the darkness sweeping in from the horizon suddenly and rapidly enveloped the entire world.

The rainy season had arrived!

A massive, eggshell-like barrier enveloped the entire Rainy Season Defense Line, emitting a faint Yellow glow.

BOOM!

A colossal thunderclap suddenly resounded throughout the world, the sound as immense as if Pangu himself were splitting the heavens from the earth.

The sparse drizzle suddenly became a torrential downpour.

The rains had come.

He looked ahead.

The downpour was like hundreds of millions of steel needles, piercing the sky above Jiangbei with the force to tear everything apart. As far as the eye could see, there was only a roaring, churning gray mist.

The sound of the rain crashing against the Jiangbei Wilderness roared in his ears.

A familiar scent once again filled his nostrils.

The unique smell of rain.

...

Chen Fan looked at the scene before him and suddenly chuckled. ’A familiar feeling. The rain seems especially heavy this year.’ He turned to look at the massive Celestial Pillar installed atop Nameless Mountain.

From a distance, the patterns on the pillar’s surface could be seen continuously flashing.
