Chapter 323 - 322: The West District is Done For

"I told you our East District’s Yuh Jili was impressive, but you wouldn’t believe me. You insisted that some guy from the North District, what’s-his-name Tang Yi, was better than Yuh Jili. You even said he was the second-ranked examinee on some leaderboard? Let’s not even get into whether that’s true. Even if it is, so what? Can he match our Yuh Jili’s results? Heh, a minor examinee from the North District wants to compare himself to our East District’s genius, Yuh Jili? What a joke."

"And another thing, there are actually people who believed in the North District and even bet on them. They must be out of their minds. Whether it’s individual or group performance, there’s no way the North District will come in first!"

Seeing so many people praise Yuh Jili, Yane Bohou, the head of the East District, was ecstatic. But amidst his joy, he didn’t forget to heap scorn on the people from the North District.

"Our North District’s results haven’t been announced yet. What’s your hurry?" Elder Lu said, his expression completely unfazed.

"Heh, it seems you haven’t given up hope. Fine, I’ll wait for your results to be announced!" Yane Bohou sneered.

A moment later, the West Mansion experts in the square finished verifying the East District’s results. A total of 115 examinees from the East District had survived until the end and returned. Of those, 49 had completed the House Entrance Examination’s mission; more than half had failed and were eliminated.

However, with forty-nine people completing the mission, the success rate was already quite high compared to previous years.

In past years, only around thirty-some people from the East District had passed the House Entrance Examination. This year, they had over a dozen more than the last.

The combined score for the entire East District—not counting those who were eliminated, but just these forty-nine individuals—was a total equivalent to eight hundred sixteen Level 4 Demon Beast Crystals!

When this result was tallied, everyone gasped, once again stunned by the East District examinees’ performance.

They broke the record again!

This was the highest combined district score in history!

Barring any surprises, the East District’s combined score was undoubtedly going to be first place in this House Entrance Examination!

This once again made Yane Bohou, the head of the East District, roar with laughter. For the East District to achieve such an amazing result was a tremendous honor for him as its head; it would be strange if he wasn’t ecstatic.

Immediately after, Yane Bohou turned to mock the crowd from the North District, digging into them with vicious sarcasm.

Even with Elder Lu and the Chief Examiners of the North District’s strong mentality and their unwavering faith in Tang Yi, their faces still turned livid with anger in the face of Yane Bohou’s taunts. The humiliation was suffocating.

Nevertheless, the members of the North District did their best to endure it. They were waiting—waiting for the moment Tang Yi would shine.

"I was originally going to bet on the East District, but then I changed to the North District because of Old Fang. Looks like my bet on the district competition is lost now. I hope Tang Yi can give me a surprise. As long as his score surpasses that Yuh Jili, then even if I lose the district bet, I can win back my original stake on the individual bet—maybe even a hundred times over!"

Seeing the East District’s result, Murong Liu had completely given up hope on the district-wide bet. Although they suspected Tang Yi was the second-ranked examinee on the leaderboard, this was a combined score. No matter how powerful Tang Yi was, what use was one person’s strength? The entire North District’s performance would have had to improve.

Obviously, with the East District’s score being so dazzling, the North District’s combined score could never compare.

However, even though the district bet was lost, Murong Liu was still very confident in Tang Yi’s individual performance.

’He’s opened the Six Spirits Gate, has 15th Layer Spiritual Power, and the strength of a Battle King. If even that can’t beat Yuh Jili, then Tang Yi would be utterly useless.’

Murong Liu had bet twenty drops of Holy Liquid on Tang Yi taking first place individually. If Tang Yi really did come in first, he would win back everything he lost, and possibly even more.

With that thought, the pain of losing the district bet didn’t sting as much for Murong Liu.

"I bet on the South District for the district competition. I’ve probably lost too," Pan Borong added, shaking his head.

"Looks like Elder Yane Bohou and the Hall Masters and Elders who bet on the East District are going to make a fortune. The East District was unexpectedly brilliant this year. A pity, I bet on the West District. It’s strange, though. Before the House Entrance Examination, the West District’s overall strength seemed pretty good, and every one of them had such a solemn air about them. Examinees like that should have gotten a good combined score. I never expected so few to return."

Guo Yangyun glanced over to where the West District examinees were gathered and saw that only fifty or sixty of them had returned, several dozen fewer than the East District.

’Based on the odds, it’ll be a good outcome if even twenty of them manage to pass the House Entrance Examination!’

This instantly filled Guo Yangyun with disappointment, and he bitterly regretted betting on the West District.

And at that moment, the second district to be inspected was indeed the West District.

The final number of those who completed the mission and passed the House Entrance Examination was just as Guo Yangyun had predicted—or perhaps even lower.

A total of fifty-seven people from the West District returned this time. Of those, only nineteen had completed the mission!

The entire district’s total score in Demon Beast Crystals was two hundred twenty-three!

That was a gap of nearly six hundred crystals compared to the East District!

Furthermore!

Among these nineteen people, each had only obtained a dozen or so Demon Beast Crystals, just enough to complete the mission. Not a single one had more than fifteen!

Every single one of them was mediocre; not one stood out!

Nineteen people, a district total of two hundred twenty-three Level 4 Demon Beast Crystals!

What a terrible result!

Whether it was the higher-ups from the Eight Palaces on the high platform or the West Mansion Disciples in the audience, everyone was shaking their heads.

The West District’s head and its Chief Examiners looked even more mortified. If they could, they would have dug a hole and crawled into it.

It was too humiliating. This was a whole new level of disgrace.

If these were the North District’s results, it would be one thing. But they were the West District! When had the West District ever performed so poorly?

Nineteen people, two hundred twenty-three Level 4 Demon Beast Crystals!

In the entire district, not a single person had managed to kill a Level 5 Demon Beast and obtain a Level 5 Demon Beast Crystal...

Not one person had obtained more than fifteen Level 4 Demon Beast Crystals. All of them had just barely completed the mission, just scraping by.

This was simply the most shameful event of the year.

The more the West District’s head and Chief Examiners thought about it, the angrier they became, their faces practically turning green with rage.

Seeing the ashen, furious, and shamed expressions on their head and Chief Examiners, the West District examinees knew they had brought great shame upon themselves. Every one of them lowered their heads in deep embarrassment.

"It’s over. The West District examinees are done for."

"What on earth happened to them in the Little Extreme Sacred Land? Their results are abysmal, and so few came back—barely over fifty people."

"It seems the West District’s examinees got arrogant and complacent this year. They didn’t take the House Entrance Examination seriously, so they ended up falling flat on their faces."

"The head of the West District should go back and severely reprimand the various city districts to serve as a warning. If this continues, the West District will become the next North District!"

"..."
