I Begged His Brother to Get Me Pregnant
Chapter 97: No One Is Worth You Wronging Yourself
Chapter 97: Chapter 97: No One Is Worth You Wronging Yourself
"Absolutely not! I can’t allow you to be with Evelyn Grant! Ryan, are you trying to be the death of your father and me?"
"Mom, after what my brother did, he practically wanted Evelyn Grant dead! Even if she were a complete fool, she’d never get back together with him. So why can’t I—"
Florence Morgan was in no state to calm down.
She felt as if the whole world had gone mad.
"You just can’t! You and Evelyn Grant are absolutely out of the question! Even if your brother can’t win her back in the end, even if they don’t get remarried, I will never approve of you having any kind of relationship with her!"
His sister-in-law becoming his wife... The idea was simply preposterous.
Florence Morgan couldn’t even bear the thought!
"Evelyn Grant is divorced. She’s single, and so am I. I have every right to pursue her, and no one can stop me."
There was no way Ryan Sterling would give up on Evelyn Grant just because his mother disapproved.
He had loved her for so many years. The only thing that had ever stopped them from being together was her refusal; no one else had ever been an obstacle.
"Then do you even want me as your mother anymore?"
"If you can’t understand, there’s nothing I can do." Ryan Sterling pressed his lips into a thin line. His voice was low but unyieldingly firm. "I already gave up once, back when Evelyn chose my brother! I thought he would cherish her, that he would take good care of her. But what happened? He went and brought Jane Jacobs into the picture!"
Not everyone gets a second chance.
"Your brother... he just wasn’t in his right mind!" Even Florence Morgan sounded a bit defensive when Jane Jacobs’s name came up.
"Then you can just say I’m not in my right mind either."
"..."
"Either way, I’m not backing down. I want Evelyn Grant."
...
Evelyn Grant returned to Ryan Sterling’s place from the law firm.
Just as she unlocked the door and stepped inside, she heard his voice coming from the study.
It sounded like he was on a conference call for work.
Evelyn Grant immediately tried to be as quiet as possible, not even daring to make a sound as she changed her shoes, lest she disturb his work.
But before she could even make it to the master bedroom, Ryan Sterling emerged from the study.
"You’re back."
"Yeah." Evelyn Grant felt a little awkward. "Did I disturb you?"
"No, it wasn’t anything important." Dressed in black loungewear, Ryan Sterling walked closer to her. "Tired?"
"Not tired."
Evelyn Grant was about to take a step when she suddenly thought about Mr. Shaw. She paused.
She opened her mouth to ask Ryan Sterling directly, but she held the words back.
"Ryan Sterling, do you... do you know any lawyers?"
"A lawyer? Why do you need one?"
Evelyn Grant shook her head.
"Then why are you suddenly asking?"
She felt she couldn’t explain, so she had to quickly come up with an excuse. "I was just curious about other law firms, so I thought I’d ask!"
"Are you thinking of switching firms?" Ryan Sterling immediately pressed. "Did something happen?"
"What could be wrong? Mr. Shaw is great to me; he really looks out for me." As Evelyn Grant said this, she deliberately glanced at Ryan Sterling.
She wanted to gauge his reaction.
But...
His expression didn’t seem to change at all.
He just furrowed his brow slightly, as if deep in thought.
"Evelyn Grant, no matter where you are, don’t ever let yourself be mistreated, you understand? No one is worth putting up with that for."
’He wouldn’t allow it.’
’How could anyone else dare to lay a single finger on the woman he, Ryan Sterling, couldn’t even bear to upset?’
